*TODAY'S PROPHETIC DECLARATION - MONDAY, 31ST AUGUST, 2026.* 🌟*HOLD FAST TO GOD'S WORD*🌟 Last Monday & Last Day of August 📖 Scripture: “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” — Mark 7:9 (KJV). 🔥*Reflection – Let God's Word Have the Final Authority* In Mark 7, Jesus confronted the religious leaders because they had allowed human traditions to take priority over God's commandments. The problem was not simply tradition itself. Traditions can have value, but they become dangerous when human practices replace God's truth. As we come to the final day of August, this verse invites us to examine our hearts. Are there habits we have become comfortable with that God is asking us to change? Are there opinions, traditions, expectations, or human approval that have become more important to us than obedience to God's Word? Christianity is not merely about outward religious activities. God desires a heart that genuinely loves Him and obeys His Word. As August closes, let us surrender our ways to God and allow His Word to shape our lives in the new month. Don't allow tradition to take the place of transformation. 🔊*Prophetic Declaration:* Today, I declare that God's Word shall have the highest authority in my life. I will not allow human opinions, traditions, pressure, or expectations to take the place of God's truth. I declare that my heart is open to correction, instruction, transformation, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Today, I receive grace to examine my habits, attitudes, decisions, and priorities. Wherever my ways have departed from God's will, may the Lord lovingly redirect my steps. I declare that I shall not be controlled by the desire to please people at the expense of pleasing God. My loyalty shall be to Christ, and my decisions shall be guided by His Word. I proclaim divine wisdom over my family, ministry, work, business, studies, relationships, and destiny. May God's truth guide every important decision I make. I declare that every unhealthy habit, ungodly pattern, destructive mindset, and practice that is contrary to God's will shall lose its influence over my life. Today, I choose obedience over convenience, truth over popularity, righteousness over compromise, and God's approval over human applause. I declare that my faith shall not become merely an outward religious routine. I want my worship to come from a sincere heart, and my obedience to flow from genuine love for Christ. As August comes to an end, I declare that every lesson God has taught me shall produce transformation in my life. I shall not merely hear God's Word—I shall live by it. I proclaim that September shall be a month of deeper obedience, spiritual maturity, renewed commitment, divine wisdom, and greater intimacy with God. I declare that the Lord shall expose anything that has quietly taken His place in my heart. May He remove every idol of human approval, pride, tradition, materialism, fear, or self-will. Today, I surrender my plans and expectations to God. His will shall be greater than my preferences, and His purpose shall be greater than my plans. I declare that my life shall become a testimony of authentic faith—not merely what I say publicly, but what I practice privately. God's Word is my standard. Christ is my Lord. Obedience is my response. Truth is my foundation. And God's will is my desire. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Help me to love Your truth and obey Your commandments. Give me a heart that is willing to receive correction. Where I have gone wrong, redirect me. TODAY'S KINGDOM INSIGHTS: SERMON TOPIC: 6 SIGNS SOMEONE ISN’T REALLY CHRISTIAN. “A Christian by Name, or a Christian by Nature?” Text: Matthew 7:21–23; 2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 John 2:3–6 🔥 NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS “LORD” KNOWS THE LORD. There is a dangerous assumption in Christianity today: “If someone goes to church, carries a Bible, posts Bible verses, sings worship songs, or calls Jesus ‘Lord,’ then that person must be a Christian.” But Jesus warned us that this is not always true. > “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 7:2 That statement should make every one of us pause. Jesus did not say, “Not everyone who attends church.” He said, “Not everyone who says, ‘Lord, Lord.’” This means it is possible to have Christian language without Christian life. It is possible to have a Bible in your hand but not have Christ in your heart. It is possible to be active in church but inactive in obedience. It is possible to know Christian songs without knowing Christ. And therefore, the question today is not: “Do people think I am a Christian?” The question is: “Does my life give evidence that I truly belong to Christ?” This message is not designed to judge other people. It is a mirror before it becomes a weapon. Before you examine your neighbor, examine yourself. LOOK AT THE 6 SIGNS:- 1. THEY HAVE NO GENUINE DESIRE TO OBEY CHRIST. A genuine Christian is not perfect, but there is a genuine desire to please God. Jesus said: > “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 Obedience does not save us; Christ saves us. But genuine salvation produces a desire to obey the One who saved us. Someone may say: > “Jesus is my Lord.” But if Jesus is truly Lord, He must have authority over your decisions. You cannot continually say: “Jesus is Lord,” while your lifestyle says: “I am my own lord.” Important distinction A true Christian can fall into sin. But there is a difference between: falling into sin and building your life around sin. There is a difference between: > “Lord, I have failed. Forgive me.” and: > “I know it is wrong, but I don't care.” The first demonstrates repentance. The second demonstrates rebellion. 2. THEY HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF SPIRITUAL FRUIT. Jesus said: > “Ye shall know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16 Notice that Jesus did not say: “You shall know them by their clothes.” He did not say: “You shall know them by their church attendance.” He said: “By their fruits.” What is growing in your life? Is there increasing love? Is there increasing patience? Is there forgiveness? Is there humility? Is there self-control? Is there compassion? Is there holiness? Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit. A genuine Christian should show evidence of spiritual transformation. Not perfection. Transformation. If someone has been claiming Christ for years but there is absolutely no evidence of Christlike character, that should lead to serious self-examination. 3. THEY LOVE THE WORLD MORE THAN THEY LOVE GOD. 1 John 2:15 says: > “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” The Bible is not saying Christians cannot enjoy God's creation, work hard, have possessions, or live normal lives. The warning is about worldliness becoming the master of the heart. When money becomes more important than righteousness... When popularity becomes more important than holiness... When sexual pleasure becomes more important than obedience... When social media approval becomes more important than God's approval... When material possessions become our identity... Something is wrong. Jesus asked: > “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36 A Christian lives in the world, but the world must not live in the Christian's heart. 4. THEY HAVE NO LOVE FOR OTHER BELIEVERS. This is one of the strongest biblical tests. 1 John 3:14 says: > “He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” Christianity is not merely about loving God with our lips. It also affects how we treat people. You cannot continually hate everyone, refuse forgiveness, enjoy destroying people's reputations, and then claim that your relationship with Christ is healthy. Jesus said: > “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” — John 13:35 Love does not mean allowing people to abuse you. Love does not mean approving everything people do. Love means treating people with the character of Christ. Ask yourself: How do I treat people who cannot benefit me? How do I treat those who disagree with me? How do I respond when someone succeeds? Can I forgive? Can I apologize? Can I celebrate another person's progress? Because sometimes the greatest evidence of Christianity is not what happens inside the church building, but how we behave outside it. 5. THEY ONLY FOLLOW JESUS WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT. Some people want Jesus as Savior but refuse Him as Lord. They want: Blessing without obedience. Breakthrough without discipline. Promises without repentance. Heaven without holiness. The crown without the cross. But Jesus said: > “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23 Following Christ will sometimes cost you something. It may cost you a relationship. It may cost you an opportunity. It may cost you popularity. It may cost you comfort. It may require you to say: “No.” when everybody else is saying: “Yes.” A genuine disciple does not follow Jesus only when following Him is profitable. Real Christianity is tested when obedience becomes costly. 6. THEY HAVE CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE BUT NO PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST. This may be the most frightening sign. A person can know about Jesus without actually knowing Jesus. You can memorize Scripture. You can preach sermons. You can sing worship songs. You can teach Sunday school. You can even perform religious activities. And still have a heart far from God. Jesus said in Matthew 7:23: > “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Those are terrifying words. Notice something: Jesus did not say: “You never knew about Me.” He said: “I never knew you.” Christianity is not merely information about Christ. It is relationship with Christ. You can know the Bible and not obey the Author. You can know Christian vocabulary and not know the Savior. You can sit in church every Sunday and still be spiritually lost. 📖 BIBLICAL CASE STUDY: JUDAS ISCARIOT One of the most sobering examples is Judas. Judas walked with Jesus. He heard Jesus teach. He witnessed miracles. He was among the disciples. He participated in ministry. Yet his heart was not surrendered to Christ. Eventually, he betrayed Jesus. This teaches us something uncomfortable: Being close to Christian activity does not automatically mean being close to Christ. You can be around the fire and still be cold inside. You can be around worship and still have an unconverted heart. You can be around pastors and still need salvation. You can be a church worker and still need Jesus. Therefore, don't ask: “How long have I been in church?” Ask: “Has Christ truly transformed my life?” 🔥 A DEEP SPIRITUAL TRUTH. Salvation is not proven by perfection; it is evidenced by transformation. The Christian life is not: > “I never make mistakes.” It is: > “I no longer want to remain the person I used to be.” When Christ enters a person's life, something begins to change. Their desires begin to change. Their priorities begin to change. Their relationships begin to change. Their attitude toward sin begins to change. Their hunger for God's Word begins to change. Their response to correction begins to change. Their heart begins to change. That is the work of grace. 🛠️ PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS. 1. Examine yourself Paul says: > “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5 Don't only examine your neighbor. Examine yourself. 2. Repent where necessary Don't defend what God is asking you to surrender. If the Holy Spirit reveals something, repent. 3. Return to God's Word Don't build your Christianity around social media quotes. Build it around Scripture. Read it. Study it. Believe it. Practice it. 4. Develop a genuine prayer life Prayer is not merely asking God for things. Prayer is relationship. Talk to God. Listen to God. Seek His will. 5. Look for spiritual fruit Ask: “Am I becoming more like Christ?” Not: “Am I better than someone else?” 6. Make Jesus Lord, not merely Savior Don't only ask Jesus to rescue you from hell. Ask Him to rule your heart. 🤔 QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION. 1. If someone watched my life for 30 days, would they see evidence of Christ? 2. Do I obey God only when obedience benefits me? 3. What fruit of the Spirit is growing in my life? 4. How do I treat people who cannot reward me? 5. Have I genuinely repented of my sins, or have I simply learned Christian language? 6. Do I know Jesus personally, or do I only know about Him? 🙏 POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS 1. Prayer of Examination Father, search my heart and reveal anything in me that is not pleasing to You. 2. Prayer of Repentance Lord Jesus, wherever I have lived in disobedience, forgive me and give me grace to turn completely back to You. 3. Prayer for Transformation Holy Spirit, transform my character and produce Your fruit in my life. 4. Prayer for Genuine Faith Father, remove every form of hypocrisy from my life. Let my Christianity be genuine, not merely outward. 5. Prayer for Love Lord, give me grace to love people sincerely, forgive quickly, and represent Christ correctly. 6. Prayer for Perseverance Jesus, when following You becomes difficult, give me strength not to turn back. 7. Prayer for Spiritual Hunger Lord, give me a deeper hunger for Your Word, prayer, holiness, and Your presence. 🔥 STRONG CLOSING: DON'T JUST WEAR THE NAME—CARRY THE NATURE. Church, the greatest question is not: “Am I called a Christian?” The greatest question is: “Does Christ truly live in me?” Don't be satisfied because your name is on a church register. Don't be satisfied because you have a Bible. Don't be satisfied because you attend Christian programs. Don't be satisfied because you can quote Scripture. Don't be satisfied because people call you “Brother” or “Sister.” Make sure you know Jesus. If you have drifted, come back. If you have been pretending, repent. If your faith has become merely religious, return to Christ. If you have never truly surrendered your life to Jesus, today is the day to surrender. Because one day, every religious mask will fall. Every title will disappear. Every reputation will disappear. Every earthly achievement will disappear. And we will stand before Christ. So let our prayer be: > “Lord Jesus, make me a genuine Christian—not merely a Christian by name, but a Christian by nature, character, faith, obedience, and love.” Don't just carry the Bible. Live the Bible. Don't just talk about Jesus. Follow Jesus. Don't just wear the name Christian. Let Christ be seen in you. May our lives preach the Gospel even when our mouths are silent. (5)" ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?...’ Psalms 27:1 NKJV WE ALL need an encounter with the transfigured Christ; the One who is greater than Moses the law giver and Elijah the prophet, and all the other prophets who have ever lived. The One who wears the true crown of the universe, God’s beloved Son. We need to fall on our face and see Him as the Holy One, the Highest One, the Only One. As you do, all your fears, save the fear of Christ Himself, will melt like an ice cube on a summer day. You will agree with David: ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?’ In the book Prince Caspian, there is a great illustration of this. Lucy sees Aslan the lion for the first time in many years. He has changed since their last encounter. His size surprises her, and she tells him as much. ‘Aslan,’ says Lucy, ‘you’re bigger.’ He replies, ‘That is because you are older, little one.’ Lucy says, ‘Not because you are?’ He replies, ‘I am not. But every year you grow, you find me bigger.’ And so it is in our walk with Christ. The longer we serve Him, the greater He becomes. It’s not that He changes, but that we do. We see dimensions, aspects, characteristics we never saw before; increasing and astonishing increments of His purity, power, and uniqueness. Only when we have fallen at His feet in humility and total dependence will He say to us what He said to His disciples on the Mount where He was transfigured: ‘…“Arise, and do not be afraid”’ (Matthew 17:7 NKJV). When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. 25. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? 26. Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 27. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. 28. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29. Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 30. Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. *Timeless Truth:* _But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you _*(Matthew 6:33)*. *INTRODUCTION* In 1997, the world watched as Mother Teresa continued her work among the poor and dying in Calcutta despite having very limited material resources. Her ministry was not built around accumulating possessions, but around serving people and pointing them toward Christ. Her life demonstrated that material needs, though important, cannot by themselves satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart. This truth is reflected in Jesus' encounter with the crowd in John 6. The people had witnessed the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. They had received bread miraculously and when they could no longer find Jesus, they sought for Him. However, Jesus exposed the motive behind their search: *“You seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.”* (John 6:26) They were pursuing Jesus primarily because of what He could give them, rather than because of who He is. Jesus then redirected their attention from temporary bread to eternal nourishment: The passage challenges us to examine our motives: Are we seeking Christ because we love Him or primarily because of what we hope to receive from Him? The crowd came looking for Jesus, but Jesus knew why they were looking for Him. They had eaten the bread, enjoyed the miracle and wanted more. Their problem was not that they wanted bread. Their problem was that they wanted bread without fully recognizing the Bread of Life. This remains a danger for Christians today. We can seek God for: employment, healing, financial breakthrough, academic success, marriage, protection, promotion, material provision and all these things may legitimately be brought before God in prayer. However, if our relationship with Christ is reduced to what He can provide, we have misunderstood discipleship. Jesus is not merely the Provider of bread; He is the Bread of Life. The greatest blessing is not what God places in our hands, but who God places in our hearts. Physical bread sustains the body temporarily. Money can provide comfort temporarily. Success can bring recognition temporarily. Possessions can give pleasure temporarily, but none of these can satisfy the deepest hunger of the human soul. Only Christ can do that. Therefore, we must examine our priorities. Are we spending more time pursuing things than pursuing God? Are we more excited about God's gifts than about God's presence? Do we pray only when we need something or do we desire fellowship with Christ because we love Him? The answer of Jesus is clear: *Do not labour for the food which perisheth, but for the food which endureth to everlasting life.* Let us therefore, seek Christ above possessions, eternal life above temporary success and God's kingdom above worldly satisfaction. When Christ becomes our greatest treasure, we can enjoy God's blessings without allowing those blessings to become our god. The deepest hunger of the human heart can only be satisfied by Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. *1. The Pursuit of Temporary Satisfaction* a. The crowd crossed the sea looking for Jesus, but their motivation was primarily physical. The people sought diligently for Jesus after discovering that He had left. Seeking Christ is good, but our motives matter. We should seek Jesus not merely for His blessings, but because He is worthy of our love and devotion. b. The crowd had witnessed a miracle and wanted more. They were attracted to what Jesus could do rather than surrendering themselves to who Jesus is. *(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)* (2 Corinthians 5:7) — Miracles can point us toward Christ, but miracles themselves must never become the foundation of our faith. Physical food satisfies temporarily; eventually, we become hungry again. *Questions* (i) What do I pursue most—God Himself or the blessings I hope to receive from Him? (ii) Have material possessions, comfort, success or recognition become more important to me than spiritual growth? *2. The Priority of Eternal Substance* a. Jesus redirected the crowd from physical food toward the nourishment that leads to eternal life. This does not mean Christians should neglect legitimate work or physical responsibilities. Rather, eternal things must have first priority. Our careers, businesses, education and possessions are important, but none should replace our pursuit of God. b. Jesus made it clear that eternal life ultimately comes from God. *For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:* (Ephesians 2:8). We cannot earn salvation through human achievement. When the crowd asked what they should do, Jesus answered: The central response God desires is genuine faith in Jesus Christ. *Questions* (i) Am I investing as much energy in my spiritual life as I invest in my career and material needs? (ii) Am I trusting Christ for salvation or am I depending on my good works and religious activities? *3. The Provision of Sufficient Bread* a. The crowd remembered the manna given to Israel in the wilderness and asked Jesus for a sign. They referred to Moses and the manna: They were focusing on an earlier miracle instead of recognizing the greater One standing before them. Past spiritual experiences are valuable testimonies, but we must continue walking with Christ today. b. Jesus corrected their understanding: *Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.*(John 6:32.) God's provision in the wilderness pointed beyond physical manna to Christ Himself. We can trust God to provide what we genuinely need while remembering that our greatest need is spiritual life in Christ. Jesus saw their motive for seeking Him and punctured their search with a scathing, incisive, yet profoundly true remark: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled".* *The Bible is clear that our ultimate source of happiness and pleasure is God. David wrote, "In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore". Jesus told the disciples: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full". We will find fullness of joy and pleasures forever when we seek the Lord rightly.* *Beloved, never seek the Lord for superficial motives. They are a mirage; bubbles that never last. Beyond the bread (healing, deliverance, prosperity and miracles) that Christ gives, seek Him who is the Bread of Life, the Bread from heaven. Be discreet to shun dispensing your life energy on labouring for perishable material things that will never satisfy the imperishable soul. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." QUOTE TO REFLECT ON “When your strength is exhausted, God's strength can carry you forward.” DAY'S REFLECTION Life is a journey, and every journey has moments of strength as well as moments of weariness. There are times when responsibilities become heavy, prayers seem delayed, and the road ahead appears longer than expected. Isaiah reminds us that God does not ignore the weary: “He giveth power to the faint.” The word “faint” describes someone who is weak, exhausted, or without strength. God promises to give power to such people. He does not require us to pretend that we are always strong. Instead, He invites us to depend on His strength when ours is insufficient. Isaiah 40:31 says, “they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.” To wait upon the LORD is not passive laziness. It means trusting God, remaining faithful, praying, obeying His Word, and patiently depending on His timing. Renew means to receive fresh strength for the journey. The Scripture uses the picture of an eagle: “they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” An eagle can rise above powerful winds rather than being destroyed by them. Likewise, God can give His people strength to rise above circumstances that would otherwise overwhelm them. But Isaiah also says, “they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Not every season requires us to fly. Sometimes we run; sometimes we simply walk. The important thing is to keep moving with God. Hebrews 12:1 compares the Christian life to a race. It tells us to “lay aside every weight” and the sin that can easily hinder us. A weight may be anything that unnecessarily slows our spiritual progress—wrong priorities, bitterness, distractions, unhealthy attachments, or attitudes that keep us from God's purpose. The instruction is clear: “let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” Patience means endurance and steadfastness. Life experience teaches us that successful runners do not quit simply because the race becomes difficult. They maintain their focus and continue moving toward the finish line. Perhaps you are tired today. Perhaps you have been carrying a burden for a long time. Do not interpret your weariness as the end of your journey. Bring your weakness to God. Wait upon Him. Allow Him to renew your strength. You do not have to finish today's race using yesterday's strength. God has fresh grace and strength for today's journey. Keep walking. Keep believing. Keep praying. DBF-001-035 continues with John 2:14. Jesus enters the temple and finds commercial activity occupying the place intended for worship. We should be precise: the text condemns the corruption Christ confronts, not commerce itself. DAILY BREAD FELLOWSHIP DBF-001-035 Today’s Scripture John 2:14 (ESV) “In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.” Opening the Scriptures Jesus had arrived in Jerusalem for Passover. When He entered the temple, He found something seriously wrong. Animals were being sold, and money-changers were conducting their business. There was a legitimate need for animals for the sacrifices prescribed under the Old Covenant, and pilgrims arriving from distant places needed appropriate money for temple obligations. The problem was not simply that animals or money existed. The problem was what had happened to the place of worship. What should have directed people’s attention toward God had become occupied by human commercial activity. Jesus saw it. And He would not ignore it. The people may have become accustomed to what was happening around them. Christ had not. Living God’s Word Today There is a serious warning here for the Church. Something can become familiar without becoming right. Practices may continue for years. Traditions may become deeply established. People may defend them by saying, “We have always done it this way.” But familiarity does not determine whether something belongs in Christ’s Church. Christ does. The Church does not belong to pastors, denominations, committees, wealthy donors, or congregations. The Church belongs to Jesus Christ. Therefore, everything we do as His people must continually be examined under the authority of His Word. This also applies personally. Our hearts can become crowded with things that slowly compete with our devotion to God. Money. Success. Recognition. Comfort. Entertainment. Even ministry itself can become more important to us than the Christ we claim to serve. The danger is that we gradually become comfortable with things that should trouble us. Jesus entered the temple and saw immediately what others had apparently learned to tolerate. That should challenge us. We should regularly ask whether our worship, ministry, priorities, and personal lives are being shaped by Scripture or merely by habit. Not every tradition is wrong. Not every change is good. The standard is neither tradition nor change. The standard is God’s Word. Tomorrow’s verse will show that Jesus did more than observe what was wrong. He acted. For today, allow His Word to examine us. Have we become comfortable with anything that dishonors God? Have we allowed something useful to become more important than worship? Have our personal preferences begun to replace biblical priorities? Christ is Lord of His Church. And because He is Lord, He has the authority to determine what belongs there. Question for Today Are you willing to let God’s Word challenge practices and priorities that have simply become familiar? Respond: “Lord, bring my life into obedience to Your Word.”

I am seeking partners who believe that digital communication can become a powerful instrument for education, peace, hope and positive transformation. FRIDAY 28TH AUGUST 2026 IGNITE YOUTH DEVOTIONAL Topic: Your Friends Are Shaping You Bible Reference Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good character. 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV) A Short Story Rebecca had always been a responsible young woman. She took her studies seriously, attended church, respected her parents, and had clear plans for her future. However, things began to change after she became close to a group of friends who lived very differently from her. At first, she only enjoyed spending time with them because they were funny, confident, and made her feel accepted. Gradually, their influence began to affect her choices. They often skipped classes, spent money carelessly, mocked people who took their faith seriously, and encouraged one another to get involved in relationships they knew were wrong. Rebecca did not immediately join them in everything they did. She often told herself that she was different and that she could control herself. After some months, however, she noticed that she was beginning to speak like them, think like them, and make some of the same choices. She started missing classes, became less interested in church, and began hiding things from her family. The things that once made her uncomfortable no longer seemed so serious. One evening, her older sister looked at her and said, You have changed. Rebecca became defensive and said that she had not changed. Her sister reminded her of how focused and disciplined she used to be. She then asked Rebecca to think honestly about the people she spent most of her time with. That question made Rebecca uncomfortable because she already knew the answer. Her friends had not forced her to change, but their influence had slowly changed what she considered normal. Rebecca decided to take a step back from the group. It was not easy because she was afraid they would accuse her of thinking she was better than them. However, she knew that protecting her future was more important than keeping every friendship. Over time, Rebecca rebuilt her relationship with God, became serious with her studies again, and surrounded herself with people who encouraged her to grow. She learned that friendship is not just about having people around you. The people closest to you can influence the person you eventually become. Today's Message The people you spend time with are influencing you, whether you realise it or not. Their words, habits, attitudes, priorities, and decisions can slowly affect your own life. This is why friendship is not a small matter. The friends you choose can influence your education, career, relationships, finances, character, and spiritual life. A good friend can encourage you to become better, while the wrong friendship can slowly pull you away from the person you want to become. Many young people make the mistake of choosing friends only because they are fun to be around. Fun is good, but friendship needs more than entertainment. You need people who will tell you the truth when you are making a wrong decision. You need friends who will encourage you when you are discouraged, challenge you when you are becoming careless, and remind you of your values when you are under pressure. A friend who always encourages you to hide things from your parents, cheat in school, waste money, lie, drink excessively, sleep around, or neglect your responsibilities may be enjoyable to be around, but that friendship is not helping you become better. First Corinthians 15:33 gives a clear warning: bad company corrupts good character. Notice that the Bible does not say bad company immediately destroys good character. Corruption can happen gradually. A person can enter a wrong environment with strong convictions and slowly become comfortable with things he once rejected. That is why you must pay attention to what your friendships are doing to you. Ask yourself some honest questions. Am I becoming a better person because of my closest friends? Do they respect my faith? Do they encourage me to work hard? Can I tell them the truth? Do they celebrate my progress without becoming jealous? Do they correct me when I am wrong? Do I feel pressured to compromise my values when I am with them? You do not need to hate people who make bad choices. You can be kind to everyone without allowing everyone to become a close friend. There is a difference between being friendly with someone and giving that person strong influence over your life. Jesus loved many people, but He also chose a smaller group to walk closely with Him. Your circle matters. You should also remember that friendship works both ways. It is not enough to complain that your friends are influencing you. Ask yourself what kind of influence you are having on them. Are you encouraging your friends to become better, or are you also pulling them into wrong choices? A good friendship should help both people grow. As you grow older, your friendships may also change. Some people who were close to you in school may not remain close when you enter university, work, business, marriage, or ministry. This is normal. Do not hold on to a friendship simply because you have known someone for many years. Some relationships belong to a season. Some belong to a lifetime. Wisdom is knowing the difference. Choose friends who respect your future. Choose people who value honesty, discipline, hard work, faith, and good character. Choose people who can celebrate your success without trying to bring you down. Choose friends who will pray with you, advise you, and tell you the truth. Ask yourself what kind of friend you are. Make a decision to become a better influence on the people around you. Prayer Lord, give me wisdom to choose my friends carefully. Bring good people into my life who will encourage me to grow in faith, character, wisdom, and purpose. Help me to recognise relationships that are taking me away from Your will. Give me courage to establish healthy boundaries where necessary and help me to become a good friend to others. May the people around me help me become the person You want me to be.
