The Story Behind the Hymns. THE STORY BEHIND "SOFTLY AND TENDERLY JESUS IS CALLING " “Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling” is one of the best-known Christian invitation hymns, written by American hymn writer and composer Will Lamartine Thompson in 1880. Thompson was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, in 1847 and became a successful songwriter and publisher. Unlike many hymns that emerged from formal church traditions, “Softly and Tenderly” came from Thompson’s personal desire to create a simple song that would appeal directly to people who needed to make a spiritual decision. The hymn’s central message is an invitation: Jesus is calling people to come to Him, return to Him, and receive His mercy. Its gentle words “Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me” gives the song its distinctive character. Rather than using threatening language, Thompson presented the call of Christ as loving, patient and compassionate. One of the most memorable stories associated with the hymn involves evangelist Dwight L. Moody. Thompson reportedly visited Moody when the evangelist was seriously ill. During their meeting, Thompson told him that he had written the hymn and that he hoped it would be useful in Christian ministry. Moody was deeply moved by the song and encouraged its use in evangelistic meetings. After Moody's death in 1899, the hymn became even more widely known through evangelistic campaigns and church services. Over the years, it has been sung at revival meetings, altar calls, funerals and moments of personal reflection. Its enduring appeal lies in its simplicity: a gentle reminder that the invitation to come to Christ is still open. More than 140 years after it was written, “Softly and Tenderly” remains a powerful hymn because its message has not changed — Jesus calls, and the invitation is extended to everyone.

# **DWELLING IN THE SECRET PLACE** There is a difference between **visiting God and living close to God**. Psalm 91:1 says, *“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”* I think of the secret place as that quiet space where you can put everything down for a moment—the things you cannot explain to anyone, the worries you carry into the night, the questions you are afraid to ask out loud. It is where you come before God without pretending that everything is fine. In His presence, you can breathe again. The secret place is not necessarily a particular room, building, or mountain. It is a life of intimacy with God. It may be those early minutes before everyone else wakes up, a quiet corner after a long day, or simply a moment in your car when you turn everything off and talk honestly to God. **To dwell means to remain.** It is more than running to God when life falls apart and then forgetting Him when things become comfortable. It is learning to walk with Him in ordinary days as well as difficult ones. When you make God's presence a regular part of your life, prayer becomes more than an emergency call; it becomes a relationship. Something changes when you spend time with God consistently. Your problems may not disappear overnight, but your perspective begins to change. You become less controlled by fear and less dependent on people's approval. You begin to recognize God's voice, understand His Word more clearly, and make decisions from a place of faith rather than panic. The secret place does not promise a life without trouble; it gives you somewhere to stand when trouble comes. **Psalm 91:2** says, *“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’”* Perhaps you have been trying to carry too much on your own. You have been strong for everyone else, answering messages, solving problems, meeting expectations, and quietly wondering who will strengthen you. **Come back to the secret place.** You don't have to arrive with perfect words. Come tired. Come confused. Come grateful. Come disappointed. Just come. God is not asking you to perform; He is inviting you into His presence. Don't make the secret place somewhere you visit only when you are desperate. **Make it your dwelling.** Let prayer become part of your rhythm. Let Scripture shape your thinking. Let worship quiet your heart. And when the storms come—and they will—you will have something deeper than circumstances to hold onto. **You will know where your strength comes from, where your peace is found, and where you can return when everything around you feels uncertain.**

Father, please help open my eyes to identify good soil to sow into, and help me to sow good seeds for bumper harvest, in Jesus’ name. Father, please breathe increase into every of my seed, and make me a blessing to nations of the world, in Jesus’ name. Father, please on the day of my harvest, may I not be missing; Satisfy me with long life so I can enjoy Your increase in my life. May my good works speak for me and my lineage even when You have called me home to rest, in Jesus’ name. Zion represents God's people in a time of distress or waiting. The church in Haiti, India, Nigeria, China and in many other places are facing strong persecution. Our prayers can reach where we cannot reach physically. We pray for compassion for the oppressed, and comfort for the helpless in the church. Fa veramente piacere vedere come, nel mondo, ci siano ancora uomini e donne di “buona volontà” impegnati nella testimonianza cristiana mentre, in Italia, vanno purtroppo in scena pietose riunioni politiche annuali, mascherate da assemblee di chiesa, promosse ed organizzate da strutture ecclesiastiche moribonde. The International General Assembly of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI) took place in Bali, Indonesia, from August 13th to 15th. It's truly gratifying to see how, around the world, there are still men and women of "good will" committed to Christian witness, while, sadly, in Italy, pitiful annual political meetings take place, disguised as church assemblies, promoted and organized by moribund ecclesiastical bodies.

God’s channel for meeting needs in the church and the world is often through those who follow in the footsteps of Christ. In Acts 20:35, Paul quotes Jesus, who said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” The Philippians were “partners” with God and as such they joined the apostle in his gospel endeavors. The word shared in Philippians 4:15 comes from the Greek koinōneō, which means “to enter into fellowship,” “make oneself a sharer or partner.” For unknown reasons, other churches didn’t participate in giving the way the Philippians did. The apostle says, “Not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need” (vv. 15-16). God will provide for our spiritual and practical needs, and He may use us as the means to help meet the needs of others.
