Although the chapter contains many names, it presents a clear spiritual contrast between trusting God in battle and later abandoning Him through idolatry. The chapter begins with Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn son. Because of his sin, however, the privileges of the firstborn were divided among others. Joseph received the birthright, while Judah became the tribe from which the ruler would come. This reveals that spiritual privilege carries responsibility. Position alone cannot replace obedience and godly character. The mention of Judah’s leadership is especially important. Although the chapter focuses on the eastern tribes, it reminds readers that the promised ruler would come from Judah. Aaron’s descendants carried the responsibility of offering sacrifices and ministering at the altar. Their service reminded Israel that sinful people could not approach a holy God casually. Sacrifice, cleansing, mediation, and obedience were necessary because God is holy. The chapter also gives attention to the Levites who served through music and worship. David appointed singers to minister before the Lord, and their service became an important part of Israel’s spiritual life. Worship was not treated as an afterthought. It was organized, intentional, and centered upon the greatness of God. Different Levite families received different responsibilities. Your Word says You are “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Lord, save our sons, daughters, grandchildren, spouses, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Draw them to Jesus and bring the wandering ones home! Father, touch every family member dealing with physical sickness, mental and emotional struggles, pain, disease, anxiety, fear, discouragement, or exhaustion. “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed.” — Jeremiah 17:14 (KJV) Lord, heal bodies, strengthen minds, restore peace, guide doctors, and give wisdom concerning every treatment and decision. Father, we cry out for those struggling with drugs and alcohol. Break every chain of addiction! Break generational cycles. Remove unforgiveness, division, and bitterness. Protect our children, marriages, homes, and loved ones from dangers seen and unseen. Father, move through our bloodline! FORGIVEN, ACCEPTED, AND LOVED “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.” —Ephesians 1:6–8 Because Jesus lives, you can be forgiven of your sins. The Apostle Paul wrote, “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding” (Ephesians 1:6–8 NLT). That’s important to remember because your spiritual enemy will use guilt to make you question your relationship with the Lord. He will try to convince you that your sin makes you unworthy to be part of God’s family. Remember, though, that everything God has done has been because of His grace, which means “unmerited favor.” You aren’t merely forgiven, justified, and cleansed of your sins; you have been received in love by God Himself. This is because of His deep love for His own Son, Jesus. Because His Son lives in you, you have found His favor. You have the approval of God because of what Jesus has done. Some people have been raised in homes where their father never demonstrated any kind of love toward them. Maybe he was cold and distant. Or maybe, you were raised in a home where there wasn’t a father at all. We can transfer those emotions to God the Father. We can walk around in life feeling as though we don’t have the approval of God. We might think, “If I just did this, God would notice,” or “If I worked a little harder, then God would love me.” But that’s not the kind of Father we’re talking about. The psalmist wrote, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy” (Psalm 68:5 NLT). Paul wrote, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ” (Ephesians 1:3 NLT). And James wrote, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father” (James 1:17 NLT). God approves of you. You are accepted and loved—not because you read your Bible a little longer, share Christ with more people, or give a little more in the offering. You are still accepted even when you don’t do all of that. You are accepted when you fail, when you slip up, when you give in to a familiar temptation. You are accepted not because of what you have done, but because of what Jesus has done. In understanding this great truth, you should want to do everything for the Lord’s glory—not to earn His approval, but because you already have it. God bless you!

Dear Father, It’s easy to assume that some areas of life may be too fleshly to be engaged by a spiritual person or approached from a spiritual standpoint. For instance, politics seems to be a dirty game, so why should spiritual men engage in it? Doctors often work on Sundays; isn’t that profaning the law of the gathering of the brethren? Beauty pageants are no place for a true believer. Yet the story of Esther teaches us differently. First, she became queen through a contest, and then, concerning matters of politics, she tells Mordecai, “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise.” Who would have thought that a queen who lives in a palace would see a relationship between politics and spirituality, and seek Your face in the face of the impending destruction of her people? Perhaps a position is not made carnal by the field to which it belongs, but by our interpretation of it. Perhaps politics is called a dirty game because those with clean hands have refused to play. Perhaps we can be queens and still be godly. Perhaps worship is not exclusively reserved for Sunday gatherings. We’ve come a long way, choosing withdrawal over meddling, holding firmly to the belief that, “To remain holy, I must be set apart.” But if spiritual men would rather preserve themselves from the rest of the world, what do we do when our race is under attack and all our Esthers are found in the church? Beauty pageants are no place for a true believer. Yet the story of Esther teaches us differently. First, she became queen through a contest, and then, concerning matters of politics, she tells Mordecai, “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise.” Who would have thought that a queen who lives in a palace would see a relationship between politics and spirituality, and seek Your face in the face of the impending destruction of her people? Perhaps a position is not made carnal by the field to which it belongs, but by our interpretation of it. Perhaps politics is called a dirty game because those with clean hands have refused to play. Perhaps we can be queens and still be godly. Perhaps worship is not exclusively reserved for Sunday gatherings. We’ve come a long way, choosing withdrawal over meddling, holding firmly to the belief that, “To remain holy, I must be set apart.” But if spiritual men would rather preserve themselves from the rest of the world, what do we do when our race is under attack and all our Esthers are found in the church? The Heart of Prayer: Knowing God as Our Heavenly Father One of the greatest parts of Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount is His teaching about prayer. In Matthew 6:9, Jesus gives His disciples a powerful revelation about our relationship with God: “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.’” — Matthew 6:9 Every word of this prayer carries deep meaning for those who long to know God and develop a personal relationship with Him. Jesus teaches us that we can approach the Almighty God as our Heavenly Father. This is a timeless truth for every generation and reveals the loving heart of God toward His children. Jesus Himself revealed His unique relationship with the Father. He said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing” (John 5:19). He also declared, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working” (John 5:17). In John 10:36, Jesus spoke of Himself as the Son of God, a truth that religious leaders of His day rejected and considered blasphemous. Jesus came into the world to reveal the Father’s divine nature, love, grace, mercy, and plan of redemption. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He opened the way for us to know God personally. When Jesus teaches us to pray, “Our Father who is in heaven,” He begins with relationship. Then He says, “Hallowed be Your name.” This means that our deepest desire should be that God’s name be honored, magnified, and glorified through our lives. Prayer is not merely asking God for what we need; it is surrendering our hearts to His will. Our Heavenly Father loves us, cares for us, forgives us, provides for us, and brings salvation, joy, and peace through Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us approach Him with the humble heart of a child, calling Him Father, seeking His will, and living to glorify His name. Love God, love people, and let your life glorify your Heavenly Father.

# **DWELLING IN THE SECRET PLACE** There is a difference between **visiting God and living close to God**. Psalm 91:1 says, *“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”* I think of the secret place as that quiet space where you can put everything down for a moment—the things you cannot explain to anyone, the worries you carry into the night, the questions you are afraid to ask out loud. It is where you come before God without pretending that everything is fine. In His presence, you can breathe again. The secret place is not necessarily a particular room, building, or mountain. It is a life of intimacy with God. It may be those early minutes before everyone else wakes up, a quiet corner after a long day, or simply a moment in your car when you turn everything off and talk honestly to God. **To dwell means to remain.** It is more than running to God when life falls apart and then forgetting Him when things become comfortable. It is learning to walk with Him in ordinary days as well as difficult ones. When you make God's presence a regular part of your life, prayer becomes more than an emergency call; it becomes a relationship. Something changes when you spend time with God consistently. Your problems may not disappear overnight, but your perspective begins to change. You become less controlled by fear and less dependent on people's approval. You begin to recognize God's voice, understand His Word more clearly, and make decisions from a place of faith rather than panic. The secret place does not promise a life without trouble; it gives you somewhere to stand when trouble comes. **Psalm 91:2** says, *“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’”* Perhaps you have been trying to carry too much on your own. You have been strong for everyone else, answering messages, solving problems, meeting expectations, and quietly wondering who will strengthen you. **Come back to the secret place.** You don't have to arrive with perfect words. Come tired. Come confused. Come grateful. Come disappointed. Just come. God is not asking you to perform; He is inviting you into His presence. Don't make the secret place somewhere you visit only when you are desperate. **Make it your dwelling.** Let prayer become part of your rhythm. Let Scripture shape your thinking. Let worship quiet your heart. And when the storms come—and they will—you will have something deeper than circumstances to hold onto. **You will know where your strength comes from, where your peace is found, and where you can return when everything around you feels uncertain.**
