Asked why she did it, she replied, ‘Because Jesus did.’ What a great answer! When simultaneous disasters hit different countries around the world, humanitarian organisations say we suffer from ‘donor fatigue’. Let’s add one more: ‘compassion failure.’ Philosopher Miguel de Unamuno wrote, ‘Warmth, warmth, more warmth! For we are dying of cold and not of darkness. It is not the night that kills, but the frost.’ Think about this: of the 1,189 chapters in the Bible, 250 contain the words of the prophets. That’s roughly 25 percent. Half of what they say denounces sin and the other half condemns those who see human suffering and do nothing about it. Yet events that horrified those same prophets take place in our world every day, and we’re immune to them. Like wearing a watch, you get used to it and after a while you don’t even notice it. But the prophets noticed! They never became desensitised to sin—or human suffering. And you mustn’t either. It may be that they had recorded successes in previous battles, or have become famous for their accomplishments. They may deem themselves to be invincible, and either declare a war that's totally unnecessary, or inject themselves into other people's battles. In the end, they become the victims of their ego and exaggerated sense of power and importance.* *This is what happened to the kings of the nations on the east of River Jordan. The children of Israel were on a journey ordered by the Almighty God. They were heading to the land of Canaan, in fulfilment of the promise God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Their land was not part of Canaan, and therefore, was not intended to be inherited by the Israelites. The inheritance of the Israelites was to be solely Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. But on their way, the Israelites encountered nations that had heard about the supernatural work of God in bringing them out of Egypt. Although the Israelites did not declare war against them, these nations, some out of unfounded fear of losing their territory, and others out of envy and hatred against this nation that had a God that can subdue, humble and defeat Egypt, the great world power of the time, took it on themselves to stop Israel from progressing towards their land of promise. One of such kings was Sihon, king of the Amorites, whose nation was mainly a lush vegetation sandwiched by rivers and plain land that was a haven for pastoralists and for other forms of agriculture. The other king was Og, king of Bashan, a land of the remnants of the giants, with similar topography as the land of the Amorites. When they rose against the Israelites, they were roundly defeated, their kingdoms destroyed and their land confiscated by Moses. He subsequently allocated the land to two and half tribes of Israel, which desired to settle there because it was suitable for their vocation as pastoralists. Had those nations stayed out of the way of the Israelites, they would have remained in their land.* *We must be wise and not take on battles that are not ours, whether out of sympathy with other people or to prove that we are powerful. As believers, we have more than enough battles against principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places, against sin and Satan. The armour Christ has given us is intended to defeat these adversaries. It is not to be wasted on self-imposed battles that do not benefit the kingdom of God. Those who engage in the wrong battles suffer great loss, and live to regret it for the rest of their lives. Some are penned down in the Bible while there are many more that have been experienced by individuals, families, communities and nations since creation of man. The fact that God is immutable guarantees that those miracles can be repeated and increased in greatness and number. One of the greatest ways to strengthen faith is to deliberately rehearse God's faithfulness and meditate on those past wonders of God. Throughout Scripture, God often instructed His people to remember His mighty acts so that they would trust Him for future victories. Israel's conquest of the Amorites under Sihon and the later record of those victories in Joshua remind us that God's past interventions are powerful testimonies of His unfailing covenant. Every believer should cultivate the habit of recalling God's goodness instead of dwelling on past fears or failures. As we recount His faithfulness, our confidence in His promises grows. *1.Arrogant Courting of Battles* Israel peacefully requested passage through the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, but Sihon arrogantly rejected the request and chose war instead (Numbers 21:21–25). It is the norm in military warfare that you don't fight those who come and prefer peace to war. The worst is to lead them as captives. Sihon had taken pride in defeating Moab and taking her possessions (Numbers 21:26-2). Their victory over Moab was celebrated as it became a song in the land. He was optimistic and emboldened that he could repeat the same feat against Israel. However, he was thoughtless and proud. His pride blinded him to the fact that he was fighting against God's covenant people. It is dangerous and risky to fight against the covenant people of God. The battle ended in complete defeat of Sihon because no human strength can prevail against God's purpose. b. Believers have the domineering power of Jesus Christ to crush every power of the adversaries. However, this is not a license for believers to arrogantly court and tempt the people of darkness to unnecessary warfare. When Herod wanted Jesus to perform some miracles for a show of power, Jesus declined because it was unnecessary (Luke 23:8). When Satan tempted Jesus to jump down from the mountain, Jesus also declined because it was an unnecessary show of power. Believers should avoid unnecessary boasting and fight in the name of the Lord that is borne out of arrogance or pride. Believers should never fear opposition, for God remains the Defender of those who trust Him. At the same time, we must guard against pride, remembering that arrogance always invites destruction. *Question* Am I trusting God's strength in life's battles, or am I relying on human confidence and pride? *2. Appreciative Counting of Blessings* Joshua carefully recorded the kings and their land, whom God had delivered into Israel's hands (Joshua 12:1–5). These verses are more than historical records—they are memorials of divine faithfulness. God's people are encouraged to remember every victory and every answered prayer. Gratitude protects the heart from discouragement and unbelief. When we regularly count our blessings, we discover that God's mercies greatly outweigh our trials. Thanksgiving also prepares us to receive greater blessings from the Lord. As the psalmist puts it, *"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."* This will take a diligent and deliberate effort like Joshua did when he wrote down and recalled the good wonders of God to himself and to the whole Israel. *Question* How often do I deliberately remember and thank God for His past faithfulness in my life? *3. Additions to Covenant for the Beloved* a. The conquered territories were not part of the promised Canaan inheritance. But Sihon and Og lost their land through their pride and arrogance and those blessings were taken from them and added to the children of Israel (Joshua 12:6). After getting victory, Moses assigned the conquered territory to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance. God's faithfulness extends beyond victory in battle to the fulfillment of His covenant promises. b. There are several cases where God took away the assigned blessing of the arrogant and added them to the portion of the godly. Reuben and Esau were supposed to have the double blessings of their first born, but they both lost them through carelessness and profanity. Their blessings were added to Judah and Jacob respectively. Jesus warned the Ephesian Church of loss of ministry if they didn't repent from the loss of their first love and the immoral practices of the Nicolaitans(Revelation 2:5). He also warned the Pastor of Philadelphia that if he was not watchful, his crown would be taken from him and be given or added to another person. *"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown"* (Revelation 3:11). Remember, King Saul lost his crown, which was supposed to be generational, to David. The same with Esau and none of them could get his back. Fight and be watchful to retain and enjoy all your blessings and inheritance assigned to you by God. *Question* Am I very watchful and prayerful in ensuring that my blessings and inheritance are not taken from me and transferred to another person? *Prayer Points* 1.Heavenly Father, help me always remember and celebrate Your faithfulness in every season of my life 🙏. 2.Lord, deliver me from every form of pride, boasting and unnecessary show of power and grant me victory over every battle confronting my faith 🙏. 3.Give me a grateful heart that continually counts Your blessings instead of focusing on life's difficulties. 4.Give Your children grace to be watchful and prayerful and don't allow anyone to take their assigned blessings and inheritance 🙏. *HYMN:* Count Your Blessings *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 26-29. 2. 🌿 MINDFULNESS: THE WISDOM OF HOW WE TREAT ONE ANOTHER 🌿 Being mindful is more than simply being aware. It is remembering that we share this world with other people. It means practicing manners, decorum, etiquette, and civility—not because we are trying to appear perfect, but because we recognize the dignity of others. Sometimes wisdom sounds like speaking. Sometimes wisdom sounds like listening. And sometimes wisdom sounds like silence. 📖 “A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” — Ecclesiastes 3:7 There are moments when our words can encourage, correct, defend, or bring healing. And there are moments when speaking out of anger, pride, impulse, or frustration can cause unnecessary harm. 📖 “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” — James 1:19 The Bible reminds us that our words matter. 📖 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21 And sometimes the wisest response is simply to be still. 📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 Being still does not mean being indifferent. Being quiet does not mean being weak. Being civil does not mean permitting wrongdoing. Jesus Himself demonstrated that there is a time for gentleness and a time for righteous confrontation. Scripture calls us to pursue truth, justice, mercy, and righteousness—not merely comfort or appearances. So mindfulness asks us: Is this the right time to speak? Is this the right way to speak? Does this need to be said? Am I listening as carefully as I am speaking? Will my words bring understanding—or unnecessary injury? And perhaps most importantly: Am I treating people as members of a family whom God has commanded me to love? 📖 “Love one another: as I have loved you.” — John 13:34 📖 “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” — Romans 12:10 Christian love is not pretending that everything is acceptable. It is not concealing injustice. It is not remaining silent when someone is being harmed. Rather, it means learning to speak truth with love, to correct without cruelty, to disagree without contempt, and to stand for what is right without abandoning compassion. 📖 “Speaking the truth in love…” — Ephesians 4:15 There is tremendous wisdom in knowing the difference between silence that protects peace and silence that permits injustice. So today, let us be mindful. Mindful of our words. Mindful of our tone. Mindful of our surroundings. Mindful of other people’s dignity. Mindful of when to speak. Mindful of when to listen. Mindful of when to be still. And yes… Mind your P’s and Q’s. 😉 Not as an invitation to conceal who we are or to perform politeness for appearances— but as a gentle reminder to show respect, practice good manners, exercise self-control, and treat others with the dignity we hope to receive. Because kindness is not weakness. Civility is not compromise. Silence is not always surrender. And speaking up is not always unkind. Wisdom is knowing which moment requires which one. 🌿✨ “Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

🙏 EVERYONE DESERVES RESPECT It is important for all of us to understand that everybody deserves respect. Whatever you are doing and wherever you find yourself, learn to honor people and treat them with respect. When you are writing or speaking to someone you don't know, please be respectful. You may be communicating with an elderly person, a leader, a professional, or someone who is higher than you in a particular area of life. Never allow familiarity, position, education, age, or social status to make you lose your sense of respect. Respect is not weakness. Respect is a reflection of good character. The Bible says: 📖 “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.” — 1 Peter 2:17 KJV Before you send that message, make that comment, or speak those words, ask yourself: “Am I showing the person the respect I would want to receive?” Let us learn to honor people, respect people, and treat people with dignity. Strength isn't just excelling where you're already good at; it's how you handle different seasons, uncertain, or painful in life. Grace under pressure is the truest test of character. Kingdom Carriers | Who Gets Your Best? We naturally give attention to people we consider important. People with influence. People who can open doors. People whose names carry weight. But Jesus repeatedly disrupted that way of thinking. He noticed children. He touched lepers. He stopped for beggars. He ate with people others avoided. He gave dignity to those society had pushed to the edges. Jesus wasn't impressed by status. He saw value where others saw usefulness. And perhaps that's still one of the clearest differences between the Kingdom and the world. The world often asks: “What can this person do for me?” The Kingdom asks: “How can I honour the image of God in this person?” That challenges me. Because it's easy to be gracious when someone matters to our future. The deeper test is how we treat the person who cannot advance our career, increase our influence, return the favour, or even remember our name. Jesus said: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40) Perhaps Kingdom greatness isn't revealed by how we behave around important people. Perhaps it's revealed by who we consider important. So here's a question worth carrying into the week: Who gets the best of me when there is absolutely nothing in it for me? When your time comes, no one can stop what God has ordained.” TRUE LIFE STORY:- There was once a very wealthy man in a village named Mr. Okon. He was the only very rich man in the community and lived in the state headquarters, and he owned a magnificent and beautifully furnished house in his Village. Whenever Mr. Okon visited the village, people gathered to welcome him. Men, women, and young people would come to pay their respects. One day, during one of his visits, a ten-year-old boy named Godwin came with some of the villagers to greet him. Mr. Okon welcomed the visitors and asked the men and women to sit on his chairs. However, when he saw Godwin, he told him to sit on the floor. According to Mr. Okon, the boy was not clean enough to sit on his expensive chair. Godwin was deeply humiliated. But rather than argue or insult the rich man, he quietly sat on the floor. Years passed. Godwin grew up, went to the university, graduated successfully, and eventually became the Governor of the State. Meanwhile, Mr. Okon had grown very old. With age, he had forgotten many things that had happened in the past. Godwin eventually built a befitting house in the village. Whenever he visited, he arrived with his convoy and was welcomed by the people. One day, Mr. Okon went to visit Governor Godwin along with others. To his greatest surprise, Godwin recognized him immediately. After the greetings, Godwin respectfully approached the elderly man and asked: "Sir, do you recognize me?" Mr. Okon looked at him carefully but could not remember. Godwin smiled and said: "I am Godwin—the little boy you once asked to sit on the floor because you considered me unworthy of sitting on your chair." Suddenly, Mr. Okon's memory returned. He remembered the little boy he had humiliated many years earlier. He was overwhelmed with emotion. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he realized how dramatically life had changed. The boy he considered insignificant had become the Governor, while he had become an elderly man seeking his attention. Godwin could have humiliated him in return. He could have ordered him to sit on the floor. But he chose something greater: He showed him respect. And Mr. Okon learned a lesson he would never forget. MORAL LESSONS 1. Never Look Down on People Because of Their Present Condition You may be looking at someone's beginning, not their destination. Godwin was only a ten-year-old boy when Mr. Okon judged him. He could not see the future that God had prepared for him. Never despise someone because they are poor, young, uneducated, unemployed, struggling, or unknown today. Today's condition is not necessarily tomorrow's position. 2. Treat Everyone With Dignity The way you treat people reveals your character. Wealth, position, education, beauty, influence, and power are temporary. But the dignity you give to another human being reflects the quality of your heart. Jesus taught: «"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise." — Luke 6:31» Treat the cleaner with respect. Treat the child with respect. Treat the poor with respect. Treat the stranger with respect. Treat the person who cannot help you with respect. 3. Life Has Different Seasons There is a season when one person is ahead and another is behind. There is a season when someone is celebrated while another person is struggling. But seasons change. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a time and season for everything. Therefore, never allow your present success to make you arrogant. The person you are ignoring today may occupy an important position tomorrow. 4. Don't Use Your Position to Humiliate Others Mr. Okon had wealth, and he used his position to make a little boy feel inferior. Having power does not give us permission to make others feel worthless. True greatness is demonstrated by how we treat those who have nothing to offer us. 5. Don't Revenge When God Elevates You This is one of the most powerful lessons in the story. Godwin had every opportunity to embarrass Mr. Okon. Instead, he treated him respectfully. That is maturity. Your elevation should not make you become what once hurt you. When God lifts you, don't use your new position to punish everyone who looked down on you. Let your success speak for itself. 6. Never Forget Where You Came From Success can make people forget the days when they needed help. Never forget the people, places, and experiences that shaped your journey. Stay humble. Remember your beginning. Remember those who helped you. And remember that everything you have today can change tomorrow. A MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE Perhaps you are currently sitting on the "floor" of life. People may not recognize you. People may underestimate you. People may laugh at your dreams. People may look at your present circumstances and conclude that you will never amount to anything. Don't give up. Your present position is not the final chapter of your story. And if you are currently sitting on the "chair" of success, don't become proud. Remember: the chair is temporary. One day, someone else may sit there. So while you are rising, lift others. While you are succeeding, encourage others. While you are influential, protect others. And while you are respected, respect others. FINAL REFLECTION You may be ahead of someone today, but you don't know what tomorrow holds for either of you. Therefore: Be humble when you are up. Be patient when you are down. Be kind when you have power. Be respectful when you have influence. And never humiliate someone because of where they are today. There is a time for you. There is a time for another person. And ultimately, there is a time when God changes the story. Prayer Lord, give me a humble heart. Help me never to despise anyone because of their present condition. Teach me to respect every person, regardless of their status. When You lift me, help me remember where I came from and use my position to bless others. Sadly, several believers associate with class, members of their profession, and what others have, using that to look down on others. A Nugget of Truth. WHY DID GOD SAY, “LET US MAKE MAN” IN GENESIS 1:26? One of the most mysterious statements in the creation account is found in Genesis 1:26: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” The question is simple but profound: Who was God talking to when He said, “Let us”? Many explanations have been given, but we must allow Scripture to interpret Scripture. 1. “LET US” DOES NOT MEAN THERE ARE MANY GODS The Bible is very clear that there is one God. Deuteronomy 6:4 declares: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” So Genesis 1:26 cannot be used to teach that there are multiple independent gods. The phrase “let us” must be understood consistently with the rest of Scripture. 2. CHRISTIANS UNDERSTAND THIS IN LIGHT OF THE TRINITY The clearest Christian understanding is that Genesis 1:26 gives an early glimpse of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity does not mean three gods. It means one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Notice what happens throughout Scripture: THE FATHER CREATES: Genesis 1:1 speaks of God creating the heavens and the earth. THE SPIRIT IS PRESENT: Genesis 1:2 says the Spirit of God was moving over the waters. THE SON IS INVOLVED IN CREATION: John 1:1–3 teaches that the Word was with God and that all things were made through Him. Colossians 1:16 likewise connects creation with Christ. Therefore, when God says, “Let us make man,” Christians see a beautiful harmony with the later revelation of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 3. BUT THERE IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT POSSIBILITY Some interpreters understand “let us” as God speaking in the presence of His heavenly court, angelic beings. There are other passages where God is pictured among heavenly beings, such as Job 1:6 and 1 Kings 22:19–22. However, there is an important distinction: God did not say, “Let us create God.” He alone is the Creator. And Genesis 1:27 immediately changes the wording: “So God created man in his own image.” Notice it carefully: “Let us make man” then “God created man.” The Bible does not say that angels created humanity. 4. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS NOT “ US " IT IS “OUR IMAGE” Genesis 1:26 says: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Then verse 27 says humanity was created in God’s image. This means human beings possess a unique dignity and calling within creation. Being made in God’s image does not mean humans physically look like God. Rather, humanity was created to reflect God in a unique way through qualities such as moral responsibility, relational capacity, rational thought, stewardship, and the ability to represent God’s rule on earth. 5. GENESIS WAS WRITTEN BEFORE THE FULL REVELATION OF THE TRINITY This is extremely important. Genesis does not give us a complete theological explanation of the Trinity. The fuller revelation comes progressively through Scripture. In the New Testament, we see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together in passages such as Matthew 28:19 and 2 Corinthians 13:14. So Genesis 1:26 can be understood as consistent with the Trinity, but we should not pretend that Genesis alone gives the entire doctrine. THE DEEPER MESSAGE The mystery of Genesis 1:26 ultimately points us toward something greater: Humanity was not an accident. God intentionally created mankind. You were created with purpose. You were created to bear God’s image. And that means human life has value that cannot be measured merely by wealth, status, appearance, education, or social position. The same God who said, “Let us make man,” is the God who created humanity with dignity, responsibility, and purpose. TEACHING SUMMARY Genesis 1:26 is not evidence of many gods. The phrase “Let us make man” has been understood by Christians primarily as fitting the revelation of the Trinity, while some interpreters also see the possibility of God addressing His heavenly court. But Genesis 1:27 makes the central truth unmistakable: God alone is the Creator, and humanity was created in God’s image. The great mystery is not merely: “Who was God talking to?” The greater revelation is: “Why did the eternal God choose to create human beings in His image?” Because humanity was created to know God, reflect His character, exercise responsible dominion over creation, and live in relationship with Him.

Take away poverty, and we should have no way of understanding the mercy and love of God, no way of knowing the compassionate and sympathetic heavenly Father. First meet the temporal necessities of the needy and relieve their physical wants and sufferings, and you will then find an open avenue to the heart, where you may plant the good seeds of virtue and religion. Never does the gospel put on an aspect of greater loveliness than when it is brought to the most needy and destitute regions.... Truth from the Word of God enters the hovel of the peasant and lights up the rude cottages of the poor.... Rays from the Sun of Righteousness bring gladness to the sick and suffering.
