• Where in the World Is Mateo?

A couple of weeks ago, I asked a question every new author eventually asks:

    Would anyone read my books?

    Someone did.

So that led to another question:

    Could anyone find them?

I did a little Google searching to find out.

I searched my name first. That was encouraging.

Then I searched Mateo and the Secrets of the Eternal Word.

    That was surprising.

Google knew Mateo. So did Walmart. Bookshop.org. ThriftBooks. Amazon sites around the world. Even booksellers in countries where I had never submitted the book.

And then Mateo had one more surprise waiting for me on Amazon.

Apparently, the little boy from the mountains of Nicaragua has been traveling without me.

Today on the blog: Where in the World Is Mateo?

  • Mateo may be the hero of the story. But none of his journeys would happen without Verbum Aeternum.

It rests inside an abandoned church in the mountains of Nicaragua.

    Father Tomás watches over it.
    Doña Rosa knows about it.
And both seem to understand far more than they're willing to tell Mateo.

At first, Verbum appears to be an enormous, ancient Bible.

    But is it?

In today's Behind the Story, we meet the mystery at the heart of Mateo and the Secrets of the Eternal Word.

    Who Is Verbum Aeternum?

  • How much does Father Tomás really know?

He cares for an abandoned church in the mountains of Nicaragua—and watches over Verbum Aeternum, the ancient Bible that changes Mateo’s life.

He is the one who brings Mateo and the mysterious book together.

    Coincidence?

As Mateo’s journeys continue, that becomes harder to believe.

Today’s Behind the Story introduces Father Tomás—priest, teacher, friend... and perhaps something more.

  • FLY GIRL!!! I thought Nicaragua would be just a short stop—but God had something much greater waiting for me.

I only had a short time in Nicaragua, but I made every moment count! I hiked through the beautiful mountains, explored a colorful local market, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a restaurant outside the city.

Adventure is a part of me—it’s simply who I am. I love hiking, exploring new places, meeting people, and experiencing different cultures.

Being there brought back so many memories from when I was just 18 years old, working in Mexico’s YucatĆ”n region and other parts of Central America. I remember washing my clothes in a hollowed-out log with pigs wandering beneath my feet—but most of all, I remember the precious children I worked with and loved. Returning to this part of the world felt wonderfully familiar.

The people of Nicaragua were incredibly kind. The restaurant owner surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and having the sweet children gathered around made that moment even more precious.

We also talked about my returning to their community to teach about God, share His Word, and become involved in ministry. I made some wonderful new connections, and I’m now planning to return on my days off.

What began as a short visit may become another opportunity to serve. I’m so excited to see the doors God continues to open while I travel!

ā€œSee, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.ā€ —Revelation 3:8

    God is good—all the time!

  • Did you ever wish you could witness Bible history with your own eyes?

That question became the inspiration for Mateo and the Secrets of the Eternal Word.

Through the eyes of a twelve-year-old boy from Nicaragua, readers journey into the great events of Bible history—not merely to observe history, but to discover the unchanging truth of God's Word.

My prayer is that this story encourages young people and families to open their Bibles with fresh wonder.

Have you ever imagined what it would have been like to witness one of the great events of Scripture?

  • One of the many things I love about Nicaragua is the beauty that can be found along an ordinary road.

Moments like these remind me that God often meets us not only at the destination, but along the journey itself.

So much of the inspiration for my writing comes from traveling these roads, opening God's Word, and remembering that every great story begins with God.

"Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." — Psalm 119:105

May the Lord bless each of you today.
