Nigerian billionaire businessman and industrialist Dr. Cosmos Maduka has been spotted preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in Lagos, in a moment that has drawn attention to the faith of one of Nigeria’s most prominent businessmen. Maduka, the founder and chairman of the Coscharis Group, is not just another wealthy businessman. He is one of Nigeria’s most successful entrepreneurs, having built a vast business empire spanning automobiles, manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, logistics and other sectors. His Coscharis Group represents some of the world’s biggest automobile brands in Nigeria, including BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen. LESSON: JOHN 14:1-3, 6 TOPIC: THE REAL DEAL TEXT: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NKJV) INTRODUCTION: Jesus promised that He would come again and receive His people to Himself. Scripture teaches that the Lord will descend, the dead in Christ will rise, and those who are alive and remain will be caught up to meet Him in the air. But the Rapture is not the real deal. Jesus Christ is the real deal. Because without Jesus, there is no Rapture for us. No Jesus, no Rapture! EXPOSITION 1 THE RAPTURE IS REAL: We must first establish this clearly. The Rapture is not a Christian fairy tale. It is not something invented to frighten people. It is part of the hope given to the Church. Jesus said in John 14:3: “I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” Notice something very important. Jesus did not merely say, “I will send somebody for you.” He said: “I will come again.” And Paul gives us the picture in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. He says the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God. The dead in Christ will rise first, and those who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. That is the Rapture. The word may be debated by people, but the biblical event is clearly described.There will be a resurrection. There will be a catching away. There will be a meeting in the air. And there will be a glorious reunion with the Lord. So, Christian, the Rapture is real. But don't stop there. Because there is something more important than knowing that the Rapture is real. You must know the One who is coming. The Rapture is an event. Jesus is the Person behind the event. The Rapture is a promise. Jesus is the Promiser. The Rapture is the catching away. Jesus is the One we are going to meet. That brings us to the heart of the message. EXPOSITION 2: JESUS CHRIST IS THE REAL DEAL From Genesis to Revelation, the great story of Scripture is pointing us toward God's redemptive work fulfilled in Christ. Jesus is not an addition to Christianity. Jesus is the center of Christianity. Remove Jesus, and Christianity has no foundation. Remove Jesus, and salvation has no meaning. Remove Jesus, and the resurrection has no hope. Remove Jesus, and the Gospel has no message. And remove Jesus from the Rapture... There is no Rapture for you. Jesus said in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Not a way. The way. Not a truth. The truth. Not merely someone who gives life. The life. That is why Jesus is the real deal. He is not an imitation Savior. He is not a religious symbol. He is not merely a great teacher among many teachers. He is the Son of God who came into the world, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and promised to come again. And notice how beautifully the Bible connects the resurrection, the Rapture, and Jesus. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 that because Jesus died and rose again, believers have hope concerning those who have died in Christ. Then he proceeds to explain the coming of the Lord and the catching away. Everything points back to Jesus. So don't make the mistake of becoming more interested in escaping the earth than in knowing Christ. Don't become so fascinated by the Rapture that you forget the One who is coming. Don't spend all your time asking: “When will the Rapture happen?” and fail to ask: “Am I truly in Christ?” Because the greatest question is not: “Will there be a Rapture?” The greatest question is: “Will I be ready for Jesus?” EXPOSITION 3: NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE Now we come to the heart of the message. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Let me say it again: NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Why? Look at the language of Scripture. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 does not simply say, “the dead shall rise.” It says: “The dead in Christ shall rise first.” That is the key. IN CHRIST. That is the qualification. The issue is not merely whether you attend church. The issue is whether you are in Christ. You may know Christian songs. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may carry a Bible. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have a church position. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may be called Pastor, Evangelist, Prophet, Reverend or Minister. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may come from a Christian family. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have been baptized. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have preached to thousands. No Jesus, no Rapture. Because the Rapture is not a reward for religious appearance. It is the blessed hope of those who belong to Christ Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:21 that not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven. That should make every one of us examine ourselves. Because there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus. There is a difference between carrying Christianity and carrying Christ. There is a difference between having a religious identity and having a relationship with Jesus. So, my brother, my sister: Do you have Jesus? Not just religion. Jesus. Not just church. Jesus. Not just the language of Christianity. Jesus. Not just the appearance. Jesus. Because when that trumpet sounds, your title will not catch you up. Your denomination will not catch you up. Your money will not catch you up. Your popularity will not catch you up. Your social-media followers will not catch you up. It is Christ that matters. The Bible says: “The dead in Christ shall rise first.” And those who are alive and remain will be caught up to meet the Lord. So the destination is not even the most important thing. The destination is important because Jesus is there. Heaven is precious because Jesus is there. Eternal life is precious because Jesus is there. The Rapture is glorious because it brings us to Jesus. Therefore: THE RAPTURE IS REAL. BUT JESUS CHRIST IS THE REAL DEAL. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Say it in your heart. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Get Jesus right. Live for Jesus. Walk with Jesus. Remain in Jesus. And when Jesus comes... be ready to meet Him. CONCLUSION JESUS IS THE REAL DEAL 🤝! The message is simple. The Rapture is real. But don't make the Rapture your god. Jesus is the real deal. Don't merely prepare for an event. Prepare to meet a Person. Don't merely look for the trumpet. Look to Jesus. Because NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE. But if you are in Christ, you have the blessed hope that when He comes, you will meet Him in the air and be with Him forever. Jesus is the real deal. PRAYER Lord Jesus, I need You. Forgive my sins, cleanse my heart, and make me truly Yours. Remove every form of hypocrisy, lukewarmness, and false confidence from my life. Help me to remain in You, walk with You, and live ready for Your coming. When the trumpet sounds, may I be found in Christ. May I not miss You. May I not miss eternity. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen. TEXT: For man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) INTRODUCTION: Last Sunday, we asked ourselves a very important question: “What Kind of Christian Am I?” Today, I want us to go one step deeper. The question is no longer about what I call myself. It is not about what people call me. It is not even about the image I have created before others. The question is: “When God looks at me, what does He see?” People see the outside. They see our clothes. They hear our words. They see our church attendance. They see our posts on social media. They know our titles and positions. But God sees beyond all of that. 1 Samuel 16:7 says: “For man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” That means I can impress people and still disappoint God. I can look religious before men and still be far from God in my heart. So today, let us allow God to examine us. EXPOSITION: 1.GODSEES BEYOND MY APPEARANCE: We are very conscious of how people see us. We dress well because we want to look good. We speak carefully because we want to sound intelligent. We behave properly because we want to maintain a good reputation. There is nothing wrong with these things. But God sees what people cannot see. He sees the thoughts we hide. He sees the motives behind our actions. He sees what we do when nobody is watching. He sees the person behind the public image. You may deceive people, but you cannot deceive God. David understood this when he prayed in Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart... and see if there is any wicked way in me.” That should become our prayer too. “Lord, search me.” Not, “Lord, search my neighbour.” Not, “Lord, search my enemies.” Search me. 2. GOD SEES THE CONDITION OF MY HEART The heart is where God begins His examination.What is inside my heart? Is there unforgiveness? Bitterness? Pride? Jealousy? Greed? Hatred? Secret sin? Or is there genuine love for God and for people? Jesus said in Matthew 12:34: “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Our words often reveal what is already living inside us. Sometimes we say, “That was just a mistake.” But repeated words, repeated attitudes and repeated behaviours may reveal something deeper. And this is where the message becomes personal. What does God see when He looks into my heart? Does He see Christ? Does He see humility? Does He see love? Does He see repentance? Or does He see a heart that has become comfortable with things He has been asking us to surrender? 3. GOD SEES WHETHER MY LIFE AGREES WITH MY CONFESSION: Perhaps this is the hardest question. Do I live what I claim to believe? If I say I am a Christian, can people see Christ in the way I treat them? If I say I love God, does my lifestyle demonstrate that love? If I say I have forgiven someone, have I truly released the person from my heart? If I preach holiness, am I pursuing holiness? If I tell others to trust God, do I trust Him when my own circumstances become difficult? Jesus said in Matthew 7:16: “You will know them by their fruits.” God is not only interested in what comes out of our mouths.He is interested in what comes out of our lives. Our character is preaching every day. Our conduct is preaching. Our attitude is preaching. Our relationships are preaching. Even when we say nothing, our lives are saying something. CONCLUSION: THE GREATEST TRAGEDY : My beloved, today God is not asking us to examine somebody else. He is asking us to examine ourselves. When God looks at me, what does He see? Does He see a Christian only on the outside? Or does He see a transformed heart? Does He see someone who has truly surrendered to Christ? Maybe today, we need to stop defending ourselves and simply say: “Lord, show me who I really am.” Because the greatest tragedy is not that people misunderstand us. The greatest tragedy is when we misunderstand ourselves before God. People may applaud us. People may praise us. People may call us wonderful names. But at the end of everything, the only opinion that matters eternally is God's. So, before you ask, “What does God think about other people?” Ask yourself: “When God looks at me, what does He see?” And if He reveals something that does not look like Christ, don't run from Him.Run to Him. Because the God who reveals our condition is also the God who can transform us. PRAYER: Father, when You look at me, let me not be ashamed of what You see. Search my heart. Remove every bitterness, pride, hypocrisy, unforgiveness and secret sin. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Let my private life agree with my public confession. Let my character reflect Christ. Let my words, actions and attitudes bring glory to Your name. And when You look at me, Lord, let You see the evidence of Your grace working in my life. THANKS 🙏 LESSON: Matthew 7:16-20 As a matter of fact, today's message is a self reflection, that's why it's topic is: TOPIC: WHAT KIND OF CHRISTIAN AM I? TEXT: You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Matthew 7:16–20 (NKJV) INTRODUCTION: It is easy to ask, “What kind of church do I attend?” or “What kind of Christians are around me?” But today, God is asking a more personal question: What kind of Christian am I? Christianity is more than attending church, carrying a Bible, singing worship songs, or being known as a believer. Jesus wants our faith to be visible in the way we live, speak, love, forgive, serve and represent Him. The real test of Christianity is not simply what we profess with our lips, but what our lives produce. Be immensely blessed by the word in Jesus name. EXPOSITION: With a sincere mind, let's examine and consider these 3 basic important points. 1. WHAT KIND OF FRUIT IS MY LIFE PRODUCING? Matthew 7:16–20; Galatians 5:22–23; John 15:4–5 Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits.” Notice that Jesus did not say people would be known merely by their appearance, religious vocabulary, church position or spiritual title. He said they would be known by their fruit. Fruit is evidence of what is happening inside a tree. In the same way, our daily conduct reveals what is happening in our hearts. A Christian may speak about love, but how do I treat people who offend me? I may talk about forgiveness, but can I forgive those who hurt me? I may preach holiness, but what happens when nobody is watching? I may say that I trust God, but what happens when I face disappointment? These are the moments when our fruit becomes visible. Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit as love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This gives us something practical to examine. Is there love in me? Is there patience in me? Is there self-control in me? Can people see Christ in the way I respond under pressure? Because sometimes, the greatest testimony we preach is not from the pulpit. It is through our behaviour when life does not go according to our expectations. Jesus also said in John 15:5, “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit.” Fruitfulness is therefore connected to our relationship with Christ. We cannot consistently produce Christlike character while living far from Christ. The question is not whether we once produced good fruit. The question is: What is my life producing now? EXPOSITION: 2. AM I A LIGHT THAT LEADS PEOPLE TO CHRIST OR A STUMBLING BLOCK? Matthew 5:14–16; Romans 14:13; 1 Peter 2:12 Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” That means our Christianity is not supposed to remain inside the church building. People are watching us. Our neighbours are watching. Our colleagues are watching. Our family members are watching. Young people are watching. Even people who disagree with Christianity are watching. Sometimes, before they read the Bible, they read our lives. This is why we must ask ourselves a difficult question: Does my lifestyle make people desire to know Jesus, or does it give them another reason to reject Him? A Christian can become a stumbling block through bitterness, dishonesty, hypocrisy, arrogance, unforgiveness, gossip, immoral behaviour or an abusive attitude. Imagine telling someone that Jesus changes lives, while that person consistently sees anger, hatred and dishonesty in our own life. What message are we communicating? Romans 14:13 tells believers not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in another believer’s way. This does not mean that we live our lives based on people's opinions. It means we recognize that Christian freedom carries Christian responsibility. Our lives should make the Gospel attractive, not contradictory. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” The purpose of our light is not to make people admire us. It is to make them glorify God. So, when people encounter me, what do they encounter? Christ or character problems? Grace or hostility? Truth or hypocrisy? Love or bitterness? We cannot preach the Gospel effectively with our mouths while preaching a different gospel with our lifestyle. EXPOSITION: 3. AM I OBEYING CHRIST OR AM I ONLY PRACTISING RELIGION? John 14:15; James 1:22–25; Matthew 28:19–20 Jesus said plainly: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” That means genuine Christianity must eventually produce obedience. It is possible to become very familiar with church activities while becoming unfamiliar with obedience to Christ. We can attend services, participate in programmes, sing loudly, pray publicly and even hold positions in church, yet still ignore the simple commands of Jesus. Jesus commanded us to love one another. He commanded us to forgive. He commanded us to serve. He commanded us to make disciples. He commanded us to preach the Gospel. He commanded us to live as lights in a dark world. The question therefore becomes: Am I doing what Jesus asked me to do? James 1:22 warns us not to be merely hearers of the Word, but doers. Hearing God's Word without obeying it can create the illusion of spiritual maturity. Knowledge is not the same as obedience. Knowing that we should forgive is not forgiveness. Knowing that we should evangelize is not evangelism. Knowing that we should love is not love. Knowing that we should live holy is not holiness. At some point, the Word we hear must become the life we live. And this includes the Great Commission. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19–20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” Every Christian may not stand behind a pulpit, but every Christian has a responsibility to represent Christ. There is somebody around us who needs encouragement. Somebody needs to hear the Gospel. Somebody needs to see forgiveness. Somebody needs to see genuine Christian love. Somebody may be watching our life and wondering whether Jesus is truly real. So the question is not merely: “Am I a Christian?” The deeper question is: “What kind of Christian am I?” Am I a Christian by name, or by transformation? Am I only a church member, or am I a disciple of Jesus? Am I carrying the name of Christ while refusing to carry His character? This brings us to the conclusion of the message. CONCLUSION: Today, the mirror is before us. Not before our neighbour. Not before another church member. Not before society. Before me. What kind of Christian am I? May our Christianity be more than words, titles and religious activities. May our lives produce good fruit, shine as lights, and demonstrate obedience to Christ. Let people encounter us and see something that points them back to Jesus. CLOSING PRAYER: Let us pray! Lord Jesus, make us genuine representatives of Your kingdom. "THE DOOR CLOSED" *Lagos, 2024* Adaora was 27. Smart, diligent, and the top performer on her team at _BrightWave Tech_. For 3 years she showed up early, stayed late, and covered for people. Everyone said she was "next in line for manager." Then one Friday, HR called her in. "We’re downsizing. Today is your last day." No warning. No performance issues. Just a box, an email deactivation, and 24 other people walking out with her. The reason they gave? "Budget cuts." The real reason her colleagues whispered? The new COO wanted "his own people." Adaora went home and broke. Rent was due in 2 weeks. Her younger brother’s school fees were unpaid. For example, if you are driving a Car with a tank full of petrol from Lagos, which is in South West Nigeria, to somewhere in Northern Nigeria, you will need to refuel your car at some point during the course of your journey. However, if you were only going to Ibadan, which is also a city in the South West of Nigeria, you wouldn't need to stop on your way to buy more petrol. Anyone who wants to go far in life must invest resources that include holiness, hard work, knowledge, and good interpersonal skills in his or her life, while avoiding unproductive habits such as binge-watching movies, scrolling aimlessly on social media, wild partying, and the like. Discipline is required to go far in life. I recall when I was a child, my mother would compel me to stay indoors and study while my friends were outdoors playing football. I used to complain a lot about it, but she insisted until it became a part of me. One time, I was at my uncle's place, where a masquerade show was taking place on the street, and everyone was outside watching the show except me. My uncle came to me and asked why I didn't go outside to watch the show, and I responded, "The fellow everyone will watch someday does not sit around watching shows." Many years later, when God had lifted me, he reminded me of that day and said, "Today, the whole world is watching you." Beloved, what you invest in yourself is what will determine your height in life. While the other captives in the king of Babylon's palace were busy dining and feasting on the king's delicacies, Daniel and his three counterparts focused on consecrating themselves to the Lord (Daniel 1:3-12). I believe that they were not the only Jews in the king's palace at that time, but they were the only ones who went on to do exploits because they invested the right resources in themselves. Child of God, if you have big dreams that you want to see come to pass, then you must pay the price to invest in yourself. You must also let go of unnecessary weights, Such as laziness and a lack of self-control, as well as impurities like sin, which can hinder you from fulfilling God's plans for your life. Ephesians 4:32 INTRODUCTION: Our world is filled with pain, conflicts, broken relationships, and wounded hearts. Families are divided, communities are fractured, and nations struggle with hatred and revenge. Yet God's answer to a hurting world has never changed. It is forgiveness. Forgiveness does not deny the pain we have experienced, but it releases us from becoming prisoners of bitterness. Through Christ, we have received forgiveness, and He calls us to extend that same grace to others. Be blessed. EXPOSITION: 1. FORGIVENESS REFLECTS THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST The greatest demonstration of forgiveness was revealed at the cross, where Jesus prayed, "Father, forgive them," even while suffering unjustly. This teaches us that forgiveness is not based on the offender's actions but on God's grace working in our hearts. As believers, we are called to reflect Christ's character by extending mercy to those who have hurt us. Forgiveness does not mean approving wrongdoing or ignoring justice. Rather, it means refusing to let bitterness rule our hearts and choosing to respond with the love of Christ. When we forgive, we become living testimonies of God's transforming power and reveal His nature to a watching world. Luke 23:34; Colossians 3:13; Ephesians 4:32. 2. FORGIVENESS BRINGS HEALING TO THE HEART. Many people carry invisible wounds caused by betrayal, rejection, disappointment, or harsh words. Left unresolved, these wounds often grow into bitterness, anger, and spiritual dryness. God's remedy is forgiveness. When we release those who have offended us into God's hands, we also release ourselves from the prison of resentment. Forgiveness restores inner peace, renews our fellowship with God, and creates room for the Holy Spirit to heal emotional and spiritual scars. A heart filled with forgiveness is stronger, healthier, and more prepared to experience God's joy and abundant life. Hebrews 12:15; Psalm 147:3; Matthew 11:28-30. 3. FORGIVENESS RESTORES RELATIONSHIPS AND GLORIFIES GOD. God is a God of reconciliation, and He desires His children to become agents of peace wherever they are. Forgiveness lays the foundation for rebuilding broken relationships in families, churches, friendships, and communities. Although reconciliation may require genuine repentance, wisdom, and time, forgiveness should begin in the heart without delay. A forgiving believer reflects the unity of the Body of Christ and demonstrates the Gospel in practical ways. In a world filled with division and hostility, people who forgive become shining lights that point others to God's love, bringing glory to His name and hope to a hurting generation. Romans 12:18; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; Matthew 5:9. CONCLUSION: FORGIVEN PEOPLE ARE HEALING PEOPLE Jesus Christ forgave us while we were still sinners. Therefore, no follower of Christ should allow bitterness to rule the heart. As we celebrate this season of forgiveness and friendship, let us choose grace over revenge, mercy over resentment, and love over hatred.
