ICHABOD — WHEN THE GLORY DEPARTED

“The glory has departed from Israel.” — 1 Samuel 4:22

Ichabod was more than a name. It was a cry of grief.

Israel had gone to battle against the Philistines, and the Ark of the Covenant was carried into the battlefield. But the Ark was never meant to be treated as a lucky charm. Israel had the symbol of God’s presence, but their hearts had wandered from God.

The result was devastating.

The Ark was captured.
Hophni and Phinehas died.
Eli fell and died.
Phinehas’ wife died giving birth.

And with her final breath, she named the child Ichabod, saying:

“The glory has departed from Israel.”

The lesson is sobering: you can have the Ark without honoring the God of the Ark. You can have religious activity without genuine obedience. You can carry sacred things while your heart is far from God.

God’s presence is not something we manipulate or use for our own purposes.

The question is not merely, “Do I have the Ark?”

The deeper question is:

“Does my life honor the God whose presence I seek?”

May we never become so familiar with holy things that we lose reverence for the Holy One.

Lord, let Your presence remain with us. Let Your glory never depart from our lives.

Joshua 8:1-2 Now the LORD said to Joshua; "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai, See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and hid land,

"And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves, Lay an ambush for the city behind it."

Joshua 10:8 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you."

Joshua 10:24-25 So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." And they drew near and put their feet of their necks.

Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."

Judges 4:17-22 However, Sisera had fled away of foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, "Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me; do not fear." And when he had turned aside with her into the tent, she covered him with a blanket.

then he said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty." So she opened a jug of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him.

And he said to her, "Stand at the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is there any man here?' you shall say, 'NO.'"

Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

And then, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, "Come, I will show you the man whom you seek." And when he went into her tent, there lay Sisera, dead with the peg in is temple.

Judges 6:21-24 Then the Angel of the LORD put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock, and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread, And the Angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, "Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face."

Then the LORD said to him, "Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die."

So Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it THE-LORD-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Judges 7:9-11 It happened on the same night that the LORD said to him, "Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.

"But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant.

"and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp."Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outpost of the armed men who were in the camp.

Judges 9:16-21 "Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and sincerity in making Abimelech king, and if your have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him as he deserves--

"for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;

"but you have risen up against my father's house this day, and killed his seventy sons on one stone, and made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother--

"if then you have acted in truth and sincerity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.

"But if not, let fire come from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem and Beth Millo; and let fire come from Beth Millo and devour Abimelech!"

And Jonathan ran away and fled; and he went to Beer and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

Ruth 3:10-11 Then he said, "Blessed are you of the LORD, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men whether poor or rich.

"And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman.

1 Samuel 4:19-22 Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, due to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was captured, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her labor pains came upon her.

And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her,
Do not fear, for you have borne a son." But she did not answer, nor did she regard it.

Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" because the ark of God had been captured and because her father-in-law and her husband.

And she said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."

Daily Bible Lesson.
1 SAMUEL—WHEN RELIGION BECOMES EMPTY, LEADERS FALL, AND GOD CHOOSES THE HUMBLE.

The book of 1 Samuel is not just history.

It is a warning mirror for God’s people in the last days.

It shows what happens when religion keeps its forms but loses its fire.

The sanctuary was still there.
The priests were still serving.
The sacrifices were still being offered.
The ark was still called holy.

But hearts were corrupt.
Leaders were careless.
Worship became empty.
Obedience was replaced with presumption.

And heaven sent a terrifying message:

GOD IS NOT IMPRESSED BY RELIGIOUS FORMS WHEN THE HEART IS FAR FROM HIM.

1 Samuel shows us:

A praying mother.
A sleeping priesthood.
A holy child.
A captured ark.
A rejected king.
A humble shepherd.
A fallen leader.
A God who looks deeper than appearance.

WHEN RELIGION BECOMES EMPTY, LEADERS FALL—BUT GOD STILL CHOOSES THE HUMBLE.

1. HANNAH’S TEARS—GOD STILL HEARS THE BROKEN WHO PRAY

The book opens with a woman in deep sorrow.

Hannah was mocked.
Hannah was misunderstood.
Hannah was barren.
Hannah was wounded.

But instead of becoming bitter, she prayed.

“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.”
— 1 Samuel 1:10

Hannah did not run to revenge.
She did not answer insult with insult.
She poured out her soul before God.

“I have poured out my soul before the LORD.”
— 1 Samuel 1:15

And God answered.

Samuel was born—not only as Hannah’s child, but as heaven’s answer to a corrupt generation.

“Hannah’s prayer was granted; she received the gift for which she had so earnestly entreated.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 570

MESSAGE TO US:
God may begin a reformation through one praying soul.

One praying mother.
One surrendered youth.
One broken heart.
One tear-stained prayer.

WHEN THE TEMPLE IS CORRUPT, GOD MAY RAISE DELIVERANCE FROM A MOTHER’S PRAYER CLOSET.

LESSON:
Do not despise hidden prayer.

The prayer no one sees may shake what the whole nation later sees.

2. ELI’S HOUSE—WHEN SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP BECOMES WEAK

Eli was priest and judge in Israel.

But his house was spiritually collapsing.

His sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were corrupt priests.

“Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.”
— 1 Samuel 2:12

That is shocking.

They worked in sacred office, but they did not know God.

They handled holy things, but their hearts were unholy.

They served at the sanctuary, but they were slaves to sin.

“Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD.”
— 1 Samuel 2:17

Eli knew, but he was weak.

He warned with words, but failed to restrain with holy firmness.

“Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.”
— 1 Samuel 2:23

But words without decisive action did not save his house.

“Eli did not manage his household according to God’s rules for family government.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 575

“His course was followed by the disastrous results that God had foretold.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 580

WARNING TO PARENTS AND LEADERS:
Love without discipline becomes weakness.

Correction without courage becomes noise.

Authority without holiness becomes dangerous.

ELI’S SIN WAS NOT THAT HE HATED GOD—BUT THAT HE LOVED PEACE MORE THAN FAITHFULNESS.

LESSON:
Do not protect sin because you love the sinner.

True love warns.
True love corrects.
True love restrains evil.
True love chooses God above family approval.

3. EMPTY RELIGION—WHEN THE ARK IS PRESENT BUT GOD’S POWER IS ABSENT

Israel went to battle against the Philistines and lost.

Then they asked:

“Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines?”
— 1 Samuel 4:3

But instead of repenting, they used the ark like a charm.

“Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD… that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.”
— 1 Samuel 4:3

They wanted the ark.

But they did not want obedience.

They wanted the symbol.

But they did not want surrender.

They wanted victory.

But they did not want repentance.

The ark came.
The people shouted.
The camp trembled.

But Israel still fell.

“And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.”
— 1 Samuel 4:11

SHOCKING TRUTH:
The ark could not save a rebellious people.

The symbol could not protect hearts living in sin.

HOLY OBJECTS CANNOT REPLACE HOLY LIVING.

APPLICATION TODAY:
A Bible in the house cannot save a Bible-neglecting heart.

Church attendance cannot save a disobedient life.

Sabbath profession cannot save a rebellious spirit.

Religious posts cannot save an unconverted soul.

YOU CAN HOLD SACRED TRUTH AND STILL LOSE SACRED POWER.

“The law of God, contained in the ark, was also a symbol of His presence; but they had cast contempt upon the commandments, and had grieved His Spirit from among them.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 584

LESSON:
Do not use religion as decoration while refusing transformation.

God’s presence is not controlled by symbols.

God’s presence dwells with surrendered hearts.

4. ICHABOD—WHEN GOD’S GLORY DEPARTS

When Eli’s daughter-in-law heard that the ark was taken, she named her child Ichabod.

“The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.”
— 1 Samuel 4:22

Ichabod means:

The glory has departed.

What a terrifying word.

The sanctuary still existed.
The people still had a name.
The nation still had history.

But the glory had departed.

THAT IS THE MOST DANGEROUS CONDITION:
TO STILL HAVE RELIGION, BUT NO GLORY.
TO STILL HAVE FORM, BUT NO POWER.
TO STILL HAVE PROFESSION, BUT NO PRESENCE.

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”
— 2 Timothy 3:5

MESSAGE TO US:
The greatest tragedy is not losing popularity.

It is losing God’s presence.

The greatest danger is not persecution from outside.

It is spiritual emptiness inside.

WHEN THE GLORY DEPARTS, RELIGION BECOMES A BODY WITHOUT BREATH.

LESSON:
Do not ask, “Do I still look religious?”

Ask:

Is God’s presence still with me?
Is the Spirit still convicting me?
Is truth still changing me?
Is my heart still tender?
Is obedience still alive?

5. SAMUEL—GOD CAN RAISE A HOLY CHILD IN A CORRUPT AGE

While Eli’s sons were corrupt, Samuel was growing in faithfulness.

“But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child.”
— 1 Samuel 2:18

“And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.”
— 1 Samuel 2:26

Samuel lived near corruption, but he did not copy it.

He served in a polluted spiritual environment, but he remained faithful.

SHOCKING HOPE:
The corruption around you does not have to become the corruption within you.

A young person can stand.

A child can be faithful.

A student can be pure.

A worker can be honest.

A believer can be holy in a crooked generation.

“Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth.”
— 1 Samuel 3:9

That was Samuel’s spirit.

He was not merely near the sanctuary.

He was listening to God.

“Samuel’s youth was passed at the tabernacle solemnly devoted to the worship of God.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 573

LESSON:
God is still calling young Samuels today.

Not those who only hear noise.

But those who say:

SPEAK, LORD. I WILL LISTEN.
COMMAND, LORD. I WILL OBEY.
SEND ME, LORD. I WILL GO.

6. ISRAEL ASKED FOR A KING—WHEN GOD’S PEOPLE WANT TO BE LIKE THE WORLD

Israel rejected God’s direct rule and asked for a king.

“Make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
— 1 Samuel 8:5

That phrase is heartbreaking:

LIKE ALL THE NATIONS.

God called Israel to be different.

But Israel wanted to look like the world.

They wanted worldly structure.
Worldly security.
Worldly appearance.
Worldly power.

God told Samuel:

“They have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”
— 1 Samuel 8:7

This was not merely political.

It was spiritual.

THEY WANTED GOD’S NAME, BUT NOT GOD’S RULE.

APPLICATION TODAY:
The same danger exists now.

Many want religion like the world.

Worship like the world.
Dress like the world.
Entertainment like the world.
Standards like the world.
Success like the world.
Power like the world.

But God’s people are not called to copy the nations.

They are called to reflect heaven.

“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
— Romans 12:2

LESSON:
When God’s people desire to be like the world, they are already rejecting God’s reign.

THE CRY “MAKE US LIKE THE NATIONS” IS STILL HEARD WHEN THE CHURCH SEEKS WORLDLY APPROVAL MORE THAN DIVINE APPROVAL.

7. SAUL—THE DANGER OF APPEARANCE WITHOUT OBEDIENCE

Saul looked like a king.

“From his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.”
— 1 Samuel 9:2

He had height.
He had appearance.
He had public appeal.

But appearance is not character.

Saul began with humility, but later became proud, impatient, jealous, and disobedient.

He offered sacrifice when he was told to wait.

“Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God.”
— 1 Samuel 13:13

Then he spared what God commanded him to destroy.

“Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD?”
— 1 Samuel 15:19

Saul tried to excuse partial obedience.

But God answered through Samuel:

“To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
— 1 Samuel 15:22

Then came the fearful sentence:

“Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”
— 1 Samuel 15:23

SHOCKING TRUTH:
Partial obedience is complete rebellion when God has clearly spoken.

Saul wanted worship without surrender.

Sacrifice without obedience.

Religious activity without submission.

SAUL KEPT ENOUGH RELIGION TO LOOK DEVOUT,
BUT ENOUGH REBELLION TO BE REJECTED.

“Saul had failed to bear the test of faith in the trying situation at Gilgal.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 621

“It is not the greatness of the work, but the love and faithfulness with which it is performed, that wins the Saviour’s approval.”
— Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 402

LESSON:
God is not asking for impressive religion.

He is asking for surrendered obedience.

8. GOD REJECTED SAUL AND CHOSE DAVID—HEAVEN LOOKS AT THE HEART

When Samuel came to anoint the next king, he saw Eliab and thought surely this was the one.

But God corrected him.

“Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature… for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
— 1 Samuel 16:7

This is one of the greatest truths in 1 Samuel.

Men look at height.
God looks at heart.

Men look at talent.
God looks at surrender.

Men look at platform.
God looks at purity.

Men look at confidence.
God looks at humility.

Men look at appearance.
God looks at obedience.

David was not even invited at first.

He was in the field.

Overlooked by men.

Chosen by God.

“Arise, anoint him: for this is he.”
— 1 Samuel 16:12

SHOCKING ENCOURAGEMENT:
You may be forgotten by people, but you are not hidden from God.

You may be in the field, unseen and uncelebrated.

But heaven knows your address.

MEN MAY LEAVE YOU OUT OF THE LINEUP,
BUT GOD CAN CALL YOU FROM THE FIELD.

“The beauty, the vigor, and the stature of the outward man were in the sight of God of no value.”
— Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 638

LESSON:
Do not chase appearance.

Cultivate the heart.

God does not anoint pride.

God chooses the humble.

9. DAVID AND GOLIATH—FAITH DOES NOT TREMBLE BEFORE GIANTS

Goliath challenged Israel for forty days.

The army trembled.

Saul trembled.

But David saw the battle differently.

“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
— 1 Samuel 17:26

David did not compare Goliath to himself.

He compared Goliath to God.

That is faith.

“The battle is the LORD’S.”
— 1 Samuel 17:47

David went with a sling, stones, and faith.

Goliath came with sword, spear, and shield.

But the real difference was this:

Goliath trusted armor.

David trusted God.

LESSON:
The giants that terrify others can fall before a soul that trusts the living God.

Fear looks at size.

Faith looks at God.

WHEN GOD IS BIG IN YOUR HEART, GIANTS BECOME SMALL IN YOUR SIGHT.

APPLICATION TODAY:
Your giant may be temptation.
Your giant may be fear.
Your giant may be addiction.
Your giant may be family opposition.
Your giant may be persecution.
Your giant may be doubt.

But the battle is still the Lord’s.

10. SAUL’S JEALOUSY—WHEN A FALLEN HEART HATES WHAT GOD ANOINTS

After David’s victory, Saul became jealous.

“And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.”
— 1 Samuel 18:9

Jealousy entered Saul’s heart because David had what Saul lost:

God’s favor.

Saul still had a throne.

But David had the anointing.

Saul still had position.

But David had God’s presence.

“But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul.”
— 1 Samuel 16:14

This is terrifying.

A man can keep his title while losing the Spirit.

A person can keep religious position while heaven has already withdrawn approval.

WARNING:
Jealousy often reveals a soul fighting against God’s choice.

Instead of repenting, Saul attacked David.

Instead of humbling himself, Saul hunted the one God had anointed.

WHEN A HEART REFUSES CORRECTION, IT MAY BEGIN TO PERSECUTE THE FAITHFUL.

LESSON:
Never envy what God gives to another.

Do not attack what God has anointed.

Do not hate the person whose life exposes your compromise.

Repent before jealousy becomes persecution.

11. DAVID SPARED SAUL—TRUE HUMILITY DOES NOT TAKE REVENGE

Saul hunted David.

But when David had the chance to kill Saul, he refused.

“The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’S anointed.”
— 1 Samuel 24:6

David trusted God’s timing.

He would not take the throne by revenge.

He would not step into destiny through sin.

He would rather suffer than seize what God had not yet placed in his hand.

LESSON:
Do not use wrong methods to obtain what God promised.

A promise from God must not be fulfilled by the spirit of Satan.

IF GOD ANOINTED YOU, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DESTROY OTHERS TO ARRIVE.

Wait.

Pray.

Obey.

Let God open the door.

12. SAUL AND THE WITCH OF ENDOR—WHEN REBELLION ENDS IN DARKNESS

Near the end of his life, Saul was desperate.

But instead of repentance, he went to forbidden ground.

“Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit…”
— 1 Samuel 28:7

How far he had fallen.

The man who once stood as king now sought guidance from darkness.

He rejected God’s word until God’s silence terrified him.

SHOCKING WARNING:
When people reject the light long enough, they may later seek answers from darkness.

“Should not a people seek unto their God?”
— Isaiah 8:19

APPLICATION TODAY:
Do not play with spiritualism.
Do not follow horoscopes.
Do not consult mediums.
Do not chase dreams, visions, and supernatural claims apart from Scripture.
Do not seek from darkness what God has forbidden.

“To the law and to the testimony.”
— Isaiah 8:20

LESSON:
Rejected light can lead to terrible darkness.

SAUL DID NOT FALL IN ONE DAY.
HE FELL STEP BY STEP—EVERY TIME HE REFUSED TO OBEY.

SHOCKING ILLUSTRATION: THE BEAUTIFUL TEMPLE WITH NO FIRE

Imagine a beautiful temple.

The walls are polished.
The altar is decorated.
The garments are impressive.
The songs are loud.
The people are gathered.

Everything looks religious.

But there is one problem:

THE FIRE IS GONE.

No holy flame.
No living power.
No divine presence.

The people still perform the ceremony, but heaven does not answer.

That was Israel in the days of Eli.

That was Saul with his sacrifices.

That is any believer today who keeps religion but refuses surrender.

A CHURCH WITHOUT GOD’S PRESENCE IS ONLY A BUILDING.
A SERMON WITHOUT GOD’S TRUTH IS ONLY A SPEECH.
A SONG WITHOUT HOLINESS IS ONLY SOUND.
A PROFESSION WITHOUT OBEDIENCE IS ONLY NOISE.

Beloved, do not be a decorated temple with no fire.

Ask God for the fire of true conversion.
Ask God for the heart of Samuel.
Ask God for the obedience Saul lacked.
Ask God for the humility David had.

THE LAST-DAY MESSAGE OF 1 SAMUEL

1 Samuel is crying to us today:

Do not be like Eli—too weak to restrain sin.

Do not be like Hophni and Phinehas—serving sacred things with unholy hearts.

Do not be like Israel—using holy symbols while refusing holy living.

Do not be like Saul—offering sacrifice while practicing rebellion.

Do not be like the people—wanting to be like the world.

Be like Hannah—pray through pain.

Be like Samuel—listen when God calls.

Be like David—trust God when giants stand tall.

Be humble enough for God to choose.

Be obedient enough for God to bless.

Be faithful enough for God to use.

GOD IS NOT LOOKING FOR THE TALLEST SAUL.
HE IS LOOKING FOR THE SURRENDERED DAVID.

GOD IS NOT IMPRESSED WITH EMPTY RELIGION.
HE IS SEARCHING FOR A HEART THAT TREMBLES AT HIS WORD.

“To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”
— Isaiah 66:2

LESSONS

1. Prayer can birth what a nation needs.

Hannah’s private tears became Israel’s public blessing.

Do not underestimate a praying soul.

2. Parents must not tolerate sin in the name of love.

Eli’s weakness helped destroy his house.

Love that refuses to correct is not love—it is spiritual danger.

3. Sacred symbols cannot save rebellious hearts.

Israel had the ark but lost the battle.

Holy things cannot protect unholy lives.

4. God’s glory can depart while religion still continues.
Ichabod is the warning.
The form may remain after the fire is gone.

5. God still calls faithful youth in corrupt times.

Samuel heard God when others were spiritually asleep.

Young people can stand when adults compromise.

Beloved, 1 Samuel is not just about Israel.

It is about us.

It asks:

Do we have the ark but not the presence?

Do we have worship but not obedience?

Do we have position but not humility?

Do we have sacrifice but not surrender?

Do we have religion but not the fire of God?

Saul teaches us that a person can begin well and end lost.

Eli teaches us that weak correction can destroy a household.

Hophni and Phinehas teach us that sacred office cannot cover secret sin.

Israel teaches us that holy symbols cannot save rebellious hearts.

But Hannah teaches us that prayer still reaches heaven.

Samuel teaches us that God still speaks to listening souls.

David teaches us that God still chooses the humble.

And above all, 1 Samuel points us to Jesus—the true King God has chosen.

Not a king like the nations.

Not a proud Saul.

Not a trembling leader.

But Christ, the humble King, the obedient Son, the Shepherd who conquers every giant of sin.

So let the cry of your heart be:

LORD, DO NOT LET ME HAVE EMPTY RELIGION.
DO NOT LET ME HOLD THE ARK BUT LOSE YOUR PRESENCE.
DO NOT LET ME OFFER SACRIFICE WHILE HIDING REBELLION.
DO NOT LET ME LOOK LIKE SAUL WHILE MY HEART IS FAR FROM YOU.
MAKE ME HUMBLE.
MAKE ME OBEDIENT.
MAKE ME YOURS.

Because when religion becomes empty, leaders fall.

But when hearts become humble, God still chooses, fills, and uses them.

DO NOT BE A SAUL WITH A CROWN AND A REJECTED HEART.
BE A DAVID IN THE FIELD WITH A SOUL GOD CAN ANOINT.

Do Not Fear Or Be Afraid Joshua 8:1-1 Samuel 4:22 NKJV

KABOD – THE WEIGHT OF GLORY

The Hebrew word “Kabod” means glory, but it carries a deeper meaning—weight, substance, heaviness.

This is not a light, emotional experience.
This is the weighty presence of God.

1 Samuel 4:21
“Ichabod… the glory is departed from Israel.”

When the glory left, everything became:
• Empty
• Powerless
• Ordinary

But when the glory returns…

Things shift
Atmospheres change
Lives are transformed

2 Chronicles 5:14
“The house was filled with a cloud… the glory of the Lord had filled the house.”

The priests could not even stand to minister—because the weight of God’s presence took over.

• The weight that silences flesh and exalts Him

I decree the KABOD of God is resting upon my life
I decree His presence is becoming heavier and stronger

You don’t need noise when you carry GLORY

When the glory shows up… everything else bows

IT IS doubtful if there ever was a time when the note of Separation needed
to be sounded more than today. The world has become so churchy and the
Church so worldly that it is hard to distinguish the one from the other. The line of
demarcation has been so completely broken down that churches, where revivals
once flourished, whose spiritual life was at one time deep and strong, are today mere
social centres over which God has long ago written the word "Ichabod "-- "The
glory has departed."

People seem to have the idea that we must mingle with the world and become
like it in order to win souls and influence lives for God. Yet when a man falls into
a deep well no one ever dreams of jumping down alongside of him in order to get
him out. Instead he stays away up at the top and from there lets down a ladder or
rope and thus lifts him up.
Ah, no 1 The men who have won souls and influenced other lives for God have
been the men who have walked with God far above the masses, and thus from an
altitude of spirituality have drawn others up to their level. The only way to win
others is to be different ourselves and thus attract by something they lack, and by
prevailing with God prevail with men.
Had Abraham gone to live with Lot in Sodom his influence would have availed
but little. It was when he separated himself and stood afar off on the highlands of
faith with God that his intercessions secured Lot's deliverance. Let us be separate.
We must dwell apart with God.

Then I want to say that the world expects the Christian to be different. It has
its own standard of what a saint should be. And even when it succeeds in drawing
us down to its level it but mocks and laughs at our plight. No longer does it respect
us nor reverence our position. We are then no better than others.

A young woman who saw no harm in dancing decided to do some personal
work during the dance, and while gliding over the floor with her companion, she
suddenly turned and asked him if he was a Christian.
"A Christian! No! Why, are you?" he exclaimed in amazement.
"Yes," replied the young woman. "I'm a Christian." "Well, then, for God's sake,
why are you here?" was the unexpected response.
Ah yes, the world expects the Christian to be different. Otherwise how will anyone know which is which? If there is no line of demarcation how will people
know which side we are on? If we dress and act like the world how can anyone tell
whether we are Christians or not? There must be a difference.

Now, separation has always been God's standard. Abraham had to leave his
country, and his father's home, and in complete separation go he knew not whither.
Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
esteeming the reproach of God greater riches than the treasures in Egypt. So also
with the Israelites. They were a peculiar people, entirely separated from the nations
around about them, representing God. In Ezra 9 and io and Nehemiah 13, when
the line of separation had been broken down by mixed marriages there was no
leniency shown. Heathen wives must be put away and separation of the severest
character again instituted.

Yes, and separation is still the call of God. "Come out from among them, and
be ye separate, saith the Lord," and, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers" (2 Cor. 6: I4-18). The world must be forsaken and separation
maintained.

Let us remember our character. According to God's Word we are "pilgrims and
strangers," "sojourners," a heavenly people in a foreign country. This is not our
home.

I'm but a Pilgrim here,
A stranger from afar;
And to my distant home
With many a battle scar,
My Lord will bear me safe at last
When Pilgrim days on earth are Past.

Enmity and hatred is the attitude of the world toward the true child of God. "If
ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the
world, therefore the world hateth you" (John 15: iq). What about it? Does the world
hate you? If you are not of it, if you do not belong to it, and if you make it clear that
you are a pilgrim and a stranger, then you will very quickly discover that the world
hates you. You see it depends on the attitude you take toward it.

Now, the evidence of the separated life lies in the attitude of the heart, not the
actions, towards the world. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (i John 2: I5).

Hence, it is not necessary to actually take part in the things of the world. The real
question is: Do you want to? Is there a desire?

Does the world appeal and allure? If
so, then there is no heart separation after all.
Listen again: "Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship
of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world
is the enemy of God"(Jas. 4 : 4).Pretty plain language!Talk about a "worldly
Christian"!God declares that the world's friend is His enemy. The one who loves the world does not love God. What then is my heart attitude? That is the important
question, Do I love the world or do I love God? Am I the world's friend or God's
friend? Would the word "adulterer" or "adulteress" be applicable to me? What is the
real attitude of my heart toward the world? Not my actions but my thoughts, my
likes and dislikes.

Paul states that the purpose of his apostleship is to bring about the obedience to faith among all nations. The mention of "all nations" signifies the universal scope of the Gospel. This call to mission is vital for the Church's growth, urging us to be active participants in sharing grace and spreading the message of Christ to all people. As a child of God, are you obeying the Father's command? Many Christians, as well as some church workers do not engage in soul-winning. Do not be like that. Make it a point of duty to share the Gospel with someone. Do not just be a distant preacher while souls around you are perishing. You can also maximise technology to propagate the Gospel. Take action today!

ii. ICHABOD

"She named the boy Ichabod, saying: 'The Glory has departed from Israel." - 1 Samuel 4:21

We read in 1 Samuel 4 about Israel fighting with their worst enemy, the Philistines. Israel suffered a defeat. The elders of Israel then came up with the idea to take the ark of the Lord from Silo into battle. When the ark arrived at the camp, the Israelites started to cheer. The enemies were frightened and said: 'The God of Israel, that same mighty God who struck the Egyptians with plagues, is in their midst.'

The honor lost

The Israelites expected to win the battle because God was where the ark was. However, the ark - the honor and glory of Israel - was conquered. What a disaster!

Our country, the Netherlands with its Christian foundation, has also lost its honor. Our Christian foundation is torn into pieces. The ark of the old covenant was the image of Jesus Christ. For years, people have been dethroning the Lord Jesus Christ in many nations.

When the wife of Pinechas heard that not only her husband, brother-in-law and the high priest Eli had died, but also the ark of the Lord had been captured, she was overcome by contractions and gave birth to a son. Before she died, she called him Ichabod: the honor has departed from Israel.

Is Jesus the center of your life?

Today I have a question for you: What about you? Is the ark of the Lord - Jesus Christ - in your life? Is He the center of your life? Are the glory and power of God in you? Or have they been captured? Have you lost Him? Have you changed? God says: 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever' (Hebrews 13:8). We have changed, the Church has changed. People lost the battle in Israel because of their sins.

It is because of sin that the glory has disappeared from the Netherlands. Yet we see a desire; a desire for the glory to return in the Netherlands. Do you also have this desire for your nation? The Christian values and beliefs are good for everybody.

'If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face… then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land' (2 Chronicles 7:14).

O Lord, we bow before You in loving reverence. All our blessings come from You, and we praise You. We are sinful, and You are holy. We are not worthy to approach You, yet You have made a way for us to draw near to You with confidence, as children to a Father. Lord, cleanse our hearts as we come to You. Fill us with Your Spirit so that, renewed in the spirit of our minds, we may display all the virtues and graces of the Christian life in our daily walk.

We need Your cleansing tonight after the day's journey in this sin-stained world. Our feet have been soiled in the dust as we walked through the day, our hands have been stained with the evil around us, our lips have spoken words we should not have spoken, and our hearts have been made unclean by wrong thoughts, feelings, and imaginations. Cleanse us tonight. Wash us, and we shall be whiter than snow!

We have cares and worries that distract us at the end of the day. Help us to lay them all in Your hands and leave them there. Give us Your peace. Help us to cast our burdens on You and trust that You will take care of them. Make all things work together for our good.

Have pity tonight, O God, on this sorrowful, sinful world. Remember the poor and open the hearts of those who have plenty to help those in need. "DICTATOR, DOORMAT or DIPLOMAT? (1)"
‘…Don’t exasperate your children…’ Ephesians 6:4 TM

PARENTING CHILDREN between puberty and young adulthood draws on every ounce of grace and wisdom you can muster. Your effort to train them - and their drive for independence - is a tug of war that frustrates you both. The outcome depends largely on which of three classic parenting styles you follow. Though parents with each style want the best for their kids, some styles work well and some don’t. Let’s examine each. The authoritarian style: some parents announce, ‘I make the rules and you follow them! Don’t question me, obey me’. Compliance at all times, respect for authority, traditional values and hard work are demanded. ‘There is only one opinion here: mine. All other opinions are considered mutiny!’. Authoritarians don’t tolerate losing face, don’t apologise or admit fault. They are blame-oriented, legalistic, judgmental, shaming, and belittling; expecting, yet exposing the worst in their kids. By coming down hard on them they provoke confrontations, then punish them harshly and unreasonably. Often they use Scripture to bolster their position. Let’s look at the pluses of this style: the rules are clear; it establishes chain of command; it speeds up the child’s response; it’s effective with very young and insecure kids, and can be useful in crisis times. Now let’s look at the minuses: it inhibits a child’s healthy individuation process; it retards mature communication; it promotes social dependence and incompetence; it discourages decision-making and initiative-taking skills; it elevates social anxiety and depression; it increases the likelihood of your child being intimidated and bullied, etc. Authoritarians may maintain military-style discipline, but they seldom rear happy, healthy, creative kids!

O God, who has redeemed us by the precious blood of the Lamb, help us to live for Your praise and glory in all that we do. Since Jesus Christ has died for us and we are not our own, we want to live lives worthy of Your holiness. We confess and renounce all our sins. Teach us to hate sin and give us the grace to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world, to the glory of Your holy name.

We ask You to reveal Yourself to us this morning as we go forth and to give us the assurance of Your presence. You have promised that as our days are, so shall our strength be, and that Your grace will always be sufficient for us. We cling to these promises as we enter a new day whose experiences we cannot predict. We do not know what dangers we will encounter, what burdens will be placed on us, what temptations will whisper in our ears, what pitfalls will lie in our path, or what insidious influences will threaten the purity of our souls.

So we hide ourselves in You and trust You to keep us safe all day.

We desire to be useful and helpful to others. Save us from selfishness and self-centeredness. Teach us the great lesson of service. May we have the mind of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. May we serve one another in love. May we live to help others and do good.

Help us to see the needs we can meet, to perceive the ways we can serve, and then give us the true spirit of ministry so that we may do the things that will bless others. Fill us with Your Spirit so that we may be like You. We ask all this in the name of our Savior. Amen.
