TODAY'S KINGDOM INSIGHTS SERMON TOPIC: 5 “RELIGIONS” THAT SEEM CHRISTIAN, BUT ARE NOT! Theme Scripture: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders…” — Matthew 24:24 > Important clarification: This message should not be used to attack people or mock sincere believers. The issue is doctrine—what a movement teaches about Jesus Christ, salvation, Scripture, and the gospel. Some groups may use Christian language while holding beliefs that differ fundamentally from historic biblical Christianity. NOT EVERYTHING THAT SAYS “JESUS” PREACHES JESUS. Church, one of the greatest dangers facing Christianity today is not only atheism. It is deception wearing religious clothing. The greatest danger is not always the person who says, “I don't believe in Jesus.” Sometimes the greater danger is the person who says, “Jesus is Lord,” carries a Bible, talks about prayer, sings Christian songs—but teaches another gospel. Jesus warned us: Matthew 7:15: > “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing…” Notice something: Jesus did not say they would come looking like wolves. They come in sheep's clothing. That means deception can look familiar. It can sound spiritual. It can quote Scripture. It can mention Jesus. It can even perform impressive religious activities. But the question is: WHO IS JESUS TO YOU? Because Christianity is not simply about believing that Jesus existed. It is about believing who Jesus is, what He accomplished on the cross, and how sinners are saved through Him. 1. THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES. Jehovah's Witnesses use the Bible extensively and speak about God and Jesus. However, their theology differs fundamentally from historic Christian doctrine. One major difference concerns the identity of Jesus Christ. Historic Christianity teaches that Jesus is truly God, eternally existing with the Father and the Holy Spirit. John 1:1 says: > “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” And John 1:14 identifies the Word: > “And the Word was made flesh…” Jesus is not merely a created messenger. Why does this matter? Because if Jesus is only a created being, then the biblical doctrine of Christ has been fundamentally changed. Colossians 1:16 says concerning Christ: > “For by him were all things created…” If all things were created through Him, Christ cannot simply be another created thing. Spiritual lesson: Do not determine truth by how much Scripture someone quotes. Determine truth by whether their teaching agrees with the whole counsel of Scripture. 2. THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS — LDS/MORMONISM. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints uses the name of Jesus Christ and teaches about God, salvation, prayer and family. But its theology differs substantially from historic Christianity. Among its distinctive teachings are additional scriptures and doctrines concerning God, humanity, Jesus Christ, salvation and eternal destiny. The biblical faith teaches that Scripture is God's authoritative revelation and that the gospel of Christ is not to be replaced by another gospel. Paul warned: Galatians 1:8 > “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” The issue is therefore not merely: “Do they talk about Jesus?” The issue is: “Is the Jesus they preach the Jesus revealed in Scripture?” Paul said: 2 Corinthians 11:4 > “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus… There can be a different Jesus presented using the same name. 3. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE. Christian Science uses Christian vocabulary and refers to Jesus, God, prayer and healing. But its understanding of fundamental Christian doctrines differs significantly from biblical Christianity. Historic Christianity teaches the reality of sin, the physical incarnation of Christ, His death and bodily resurrection. The Bible says: 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 > “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day…” The resurrection was not merely a spiritual idea. Jesus physically rose from the dead. Thomas was invited to touch the wounds of the risen Christ. Jesus Himself said: Luke 24:39 > “A spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” Spiritual lesson: Never reduce Christianity to positive thinking, spirituality or personal experience. The Christian faith is grounded in the historical work of Jesus Christ. The cross was real. The blood was real. The resurrection was real. And salvation is real. 4. UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISM Unitarian Universalism is religiously diverse and generally does not require belief in the historic Christian doctrines of the Trinity, the deity of Christ, or salvation through Christ alone. This is important because Christianity is not simply: > “Be a good person, love everybody, and believe in God.” Jesus did not teach that human morality alone could save us. Jesus said: John 14:6 > “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Christianity is fundamentally Christ-centered. Acts 4:12 declares: > “Neither is there salvation in any other…” The danger of religious morality A person can be kind and still be spiritually lost. A person can give to charity and still need salvation. A person can help the poor and still need Christ. Good works are important—but good works do not replace the gospel. Ephesians 2:8–9 says: > “For by grace are ye saved through faith… Not of works…” 5. ONENESS PENTECOSTALISM Here we need to be especially careful. Not everyone who uses the term "Oneness Pentecostal" believes exactly the same thing, but historic Christian churches generally regard Oneness theology as outside orthodox Trinitarian Christianity. Why? Because historic Christianity teaches: One God in three distinct Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 says: > “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” At Jesus' baptism, we see the Son being baptized, the Spirit descending like a dove, and the Father's voice from heaven. The Father is not the Son. The Son is not the Holy Spirit. Yet there is one God. This is the mystery of the Trinity. Spiritual lesson: We must never reshape God into something easier for our minds to understand. We submit our understanding to God's revelation. THE BIBLICAL CASE STUDY: THE BEREANS. Acts 17:11 gives us one of the greatest examples of spiritual discernment. The Bereans: > “received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Notice they did not blindly accept even Paul's preaching. They searched the Scriptures. That is spiritual maturity. The question is not: > “Who preached it?” The question is: > “Is it biblical?” Not: > “How popular is this teacher?” But: > “Does this teaching agree with Scripture?” Not: > “How many miracles happened?” But: > “Does this exalt the biblical Christ?” 5 TESTS FOR IDENTIFYING FALSE TEACHING. 1. WHAT DOES IT TEACH ABOUT JESUS? Is Jesus truly God? Did He truly become flesh? Did He truly die? Did He physically rise from the dead? Is He the only Savior? 1 John 4:2–3 gives us a serious test concerning the confession of Christ. 2. WHAT DOES IT TEACH ABOUT SALVATION? The biblical gospel says: Ephesians 2:8: > “For by grace are ye saved through faith…” Salvation is not something we purchase with good works. It is God's gift through faith in Christ. 3. WHAT AUTHORITY DOES IT GIVE SCRIPTURE? Whenever a movement says: > “The Bible is not enough; you need our special revelation…” Christians must examine that claim carefully. The Bereans searched the Scriptures. Acts 17:11. 4. DOES IT PREACH ANOTHER GOSPEL? Paul was extremely strong about this. Galatians 1:9: > “If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” There is only one gospel. 5. DOES IT PRODUCE CHRISTLIKE FRUIT? Jesus said: Matthew 7:20 > “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Truth should produce holiness. Grace should produce transformation. The gospel should produce Christlikeness. DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHT. The devil does not always need to convince people to stop believing in God. Sometimes he only needs to convince them to believe in a distorted version of God. That is why discernment is essential. Satan quoted Scripture when he tempted Jesus. Matthew 4:6. So the question is not simply: “Does this person quote the Bible?” The question is: “Is the Bible being interpreted correctly and is Christ being faithfully proclaimed?” PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS. 1. READ YOUR BIBLE FOR YOURSELF Do not build your theology entirely on sermons, TikTok videos, Facebook posts or YouTube clips. 2 Timothy 2:15 calls believers to rightly divide the word of truth. 2. KNOW THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CHRISTIAN FAITH Know what the Bible teaches about: God Jesus Christ The Holy Spirit Sin Salvation Grace The resurrection The second coming The authority of Scripture 3. TEST EVERY TEACHING Don't reject something merely because it is unfamiliar. And don't accept something merely because it is popular. Test it by Scripture. 4. DON'T MOCK PEOPLE Our assignment is not to insult people. Our assignment is to speak the truth in love. 2 Timothy 2:24–25 teaches believers to correct those who oppose the truth with gentleness. 5. KEEP YOUR EYES ON CHRIST. The goal of discernment is not to become experts in other people's errors. The goal is to become deeply rooted in Jesus Christ and His Word. QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION. 1. Who do I believe Jesus Christ really is? 2. Do I know the biblical gospel clearly? 3. Can I recognize false teaching when I hear it? 4. Do I read Scripture for myself? 5. Have I allowed popularity to become my standard for truth? 6. Am I following Christ—or merely following a religious personality? 7. Can I defend my faith from Scripture? POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS. 1. Father, give me the spirit of discernment. Help me distinguish truth from error, in Jesus' name. 2. Lord, establish me deeply in Your Word so that I will not be carried away by every doctrine. 3. Father, reveal every false belief operating in my life and lead me into biblical truth. 4. Lord Jesus, help me know You—not merely know about You. 5. Give me wisdom to recognize false teachers without becoming judgmental, arrogant or hateful. 6. Holy Spirit, protect my heart from deception and keep me faithful to the true gospel. 7. Father, make me a faithful teacher of Your Word who will speak truth with love. STRONG CLOSING: DON'T JUST CARRY A BIBLE—KNOW THE CHRIST OF THE BIBLE Beloved, we are living in a generation where information is everywhere but discernment is becoming scarce. Everybody has a microphone. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody can build a platform. Everybody can quote a Bible verse. But not everybody is preaching the gospel. Therefore, don't follow a preacher simply because he is famous. Don't follow a movement because it is popular. Don't follow a religion because it uses Christian language. Follow Jesus Christ. Search the Scriptures. Test every doctrine. Guard your faith. Know the Word. Know the Savior. And when deception comes wearing religious clothing, may the Holy Spirit give you the wisdom to recognize it. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.” — 1 John 4:1 The question is not merely, “Does it look Christian?” The question is: “Does it faithfully proclaim the Jesus of Scripture and the gospel of grace?” Stand on the Word. MESSAGE: Years ago, a pastor prayed and told God that if He gave him ten percent of what I had, he would be satisfied. God told him that if he could do what I do, then he would get what I had. When he asked God about what I had done in the past, God told him that I started with 40 days of fasting. The man told God to leave him as he was because he was not ready to follow that example. Child of God, to achieve certain results in life, you must follow certain examples as it is only natural to eventually become like those whose lifestyle you emulate. When Elijah was taken up into heaven, Elisha received a double portion of the anointing on Elijah's life, took Elijah's mantle, rolled it up, and struck River Jordan. Then, he asked God to part the river as he had parted it for Elijah, and God did so. Elisha followed his father's example. Paul told the believers at Corinth to follow him as he followed Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). The question is, who are you following? Who are you mimicking? Ephesians 5:1 says that we should be followers of God as dear children. As we follow God, there are also people of God around us whom we can also follow. Today's memory verse urges us to follow those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises. There are patterns and examples you should follow as a child of God. If someone is truly following Jesus Christ, then you are safe when you follow him or her because such a person will lead you to the Lord. God has provided many great examples in His word and has also given us fathers in the faith to emulate as they follow Christ. To truly emulate someone, you must study them closely and watch what they are doing. You cannot emulate people just from little clips you see about them on social media, because there are many things about them that you will miss. Read their books, volunteer to work with them, and study how they approach matters. Beloved, as you emulate your heavenly Father, also become a good and worthy example to others. Follow Christ so that those emulating you will also find Him. I pray that as you emulate your heavenly Father, He will make you a worthy ambassador for Him, in Jesus' name. ACTION POINT: Today is Father's Day. Pray that God will help all fathers to be worthy of emulation. #DAILY LIGHT THE DISCIPLE WHO NEVER OPENS HIS BIBLE 🚨 ​Beloved, let's allow our hearts to be burdened by the Spirit of the Lord today to confront a silent epidemic paralyzing the Body of Christ. From our altars here in Ibadan to the ends of the earth, we have raised a generation of believers who are addicted to sermons but allergic to Scripture. ​You listen to three podcasts on your way to work. You scroll through dozens of one-minute preaching clips on TikTok and Facebook. You shout, jump, and take notes while your favorite prophet prophesies on Sunday morning. ​Yet, your personal Bible has not been opened in weeks. ​Hear me as a prophetic teacher of Discipleship: Consuming another man’s sermon is not the same as studying the Word of God for yourself. You are surviving on regurgitated revelation, and it is killing your spiritual immune system! THE TRAGEDY OF SECOND-HAND REVELATION ​When you only listen to sermons, you are eating a meal that someone else went into the presence of God to cook. It tastes good, it might even make you feel full for a moment, but it cannot build the spiritual muscle required for the days we are living in. ​We want to master God's algorithm for power, favor, and love, but we refuse to download the raw data of the Word into our own spirits! We want the quick fix, the summary, the spiritual fast-food. ​But you cannot destroy the night men behind your nightmares by throwing your pastor's sermon at them. When the devil comes for your family, your mind, and your destiny, he is not intimidated by the YouTube video you watched this morning. He is only paralyzed by the Word of God that has become flesh in you. THE BIBLICAL STANDARD OF A TRUE DISCIPLE ​If you claim to be a disciple, look at the standard set by the early believers. The Apostle Paul was arguably the greatest preacher of the New Testament, yet look at how the believers in Berea responded to him: ​Acts 17:11 - "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so." ​They didn't just clap for the Apostle! They went home, opened their scrolls, and searched the Scriptures for themselves! ​God is not just looking for an audience; He is looking for students. ​2 Timothy 2:15 commands: "Study to show THYSELF approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." ​Joshua 1:8 does not say "This book of the law shall not depart from your pastor's mouth." It says it must not depart from your mouth! BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE ​Beloved, the days are evil, and the time is short. We live our lives as if we have endless tomorrows to finally get serious about the Word. But before the silver cord snaps and your earthly assignment is demanded of you, what foundation will you have built? ​You cannot stand before the judgment seat of Christ and say, "I didn't read Your Book, but I listened to a lot of great preachers talk about it." ​It is time to repent of spiritual laziness. It is time to turn off the notifications, silence the background noise, open the physical pages of your Bible, and wrestle with the text until the Holy Ghost breathes upon your understanding. ​ SOUL-SURRENDERING CALL TO ACTION ​Stop treating the Bible like an emergency kit and start treating it like your daily oxygen. If your spiritual roots do not go deep into the text, the coming storms will uproot you. ​ TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION RIGHT NOW: ​TYPE "I WILL STUDY FOR MYSELF!" in the comments to prophetically break the spirit of laziness over your mind. ​SHARE THIS BROADCAST to your timeline and all your groups. Let's talk about it. "THE WHITE LIE CLAIMS" , ARE ANSWERED BY THE BIBLE, HISTORY, AND FAIR EVIDENCE. Different Accusers. Different Claims. One Standard: Test All Things by the Word. The accusations are loud: “Ellen White copied.” “Her health message was borrowed.” “Her sanctuary teaching collapsed.” “Her writings were edited.” “Adventists worship Ellen White.” But loud accusations are not proof. A critic is not automatically correct. A parallel is not automatically plagiarism. A question is not automatically a refutation. A shocking claim is not the same as truth. “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV “To the law and to the testimony…” — Isaiah 8:20 KJV So let every claim be tested—not by emotion, not by prejudice, not by YouTube clips, not by rumors, but by Bible truth, fair history, honest evidence, and righteous judgment. --- 1. THE ACCUSATION: “ADVENTISTS ARE BAPTIZED INTO ELLEN WHITE.” Some claim Adventists place Ellen White above Christ and secretly make baptism allegiance to her. THE DEFENSE: BAPTISM IS INTO GOD—NOT INTO A HUMAN MESSENGER. “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” — Matthew 28:19 KJV Let it be clear: We do not worship Ellen White. We do not pray to Ellen White. We do not baptize into Ellen White. We do not place her above Scripture. Christ alone is Lord. The Bible is the final test. “The Holy Scriptures are to be accepted as an authoritative, infallible revelation of His will.” — The Great Controversy, Introduction THE MESSENGER IS NOT THE SAVIOUR. A compass is not fake because others discovered north. A warning is not false because others smelled smoke. A cure is not fake because doctors studied disease before. The Bible already taught health stewardship: “Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink… do all to the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV Ellen White’s health message was not merely food advice. It was spiritual discipline: temperance self-control purity clear minds stronger bodies useful service readiness for God’s work And when some critics claim she copied from John Harvey Kellogg, the timeline itself weakens the charge. Editing grammar, improving clarity, arranging material, preparing manuscripts, or correcting expression does not automatically prove fraud. A SWORD MAY BE POLISHED WITHOUT CHANGING THE METAL. A MESSAGE MAY BE EDITED FOR CLARITY WITHOUT LOSING DIVINE PURPOSE. The real issue is not whether human hands helped prepare the writings. The real issue is: Did the message remain faithful to Scripture? Did it exalt Christ? Did it rebuke sin? Did it lead to holiness, obedience, and preparation for Jesus? If yes, then editing is not proof against inspiration. It only proves that God uses human instruments. 7. THE ACCUSATION: “IF GOD INSPIRED HER, WHY USE WORDS FROM OTHER CHRISTIANS?” Some think inspiration means every word must be mechanically dictated from heaven. THE DEFENSE: INSPIRATION IS NOT MECHANICAL DICTATION. God does not need to erase a messenger’s reading, vocabulary, memory, or research to inspire a message. The pen is human. The burden is divine. The language may be gathered. The message must be tested. The Bible test is not whether every word is mechanically dictated. The Bible test is: Does it agree with Scripture? Does it exalt Christ? Does it rebuke sin? Does it produce holy fruit? Does it lead souls to God? Ellen White called her writings a “lesser light” to lead people to the “greater light.” That is not replacing Scripture. That is pointing people back to Scripture. THE GREATER LIGHT IS THE BIBLE. THE LESSER LIGHT MUST NEVER ECLIPSE IT. BUT IF GOD SENDS LIGHT, WE MUST NOT DESPISE IT. 8. THE ACCUSATION: “HER WRITINGS ADD TO THE BIBLE.” Some say accepting the prophetic gift means adding another Bible. THE DEFENSE: THE PROPHETIC GIFT DOES NOT REPLACE SCRIPTURE—IT MUST BE TESTED BY SCRIPTURE. The Bible never teaches that the Holy Spirit would stop guiding through the gift of prophecy after the apostles. “Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:20–21 KJV “Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy…” — Acts 2:17 KJV “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” — Revelation 19:10 KJV The Bible position is balanced: Do not worship claims. Do not despise prophecy. Prove all things. Hold fast what is good. False prophets exist. But false prophets do not cancel the true gift. COUNTERFEIT MONEY DOES NOT PROVE REAL MONEY DOES NOT EXIST. No. But the failure of people to live the message does not disprove the message. DO NOT JUDGE THE SUN BY THE BLINDNESS OF THOSE WHO REFUSE TO WALK IN THE LIGHT. Beloved, do not be afraid to investigate. But investigate with a humble heart. Do not accept Ellen White blindly. But do not reject her carelessly. Do not worship the messenger. But do not despise the message. Do not build faith on human beings. But do not build unbelief on accusations. Yes, Ellen White used sources. No, that does not automatically make her a thief. Yes, critics found parallels. No, that does not automatically overthrow inspiration. Yes, health reform existed in her time. No, that does not make the message false. Yes, her writings were edited. No, editing does not destroy divine guidance. Yes, theological debates exist. No, critics are correct merely because they are loud. THE BIBLE IS THE STANDARD. CHRIST IS THE CENTER. TRUTH IS THE TEST. FRUIT MUST BE EXAMINED. ACCUSATIONS MUST BE PROVED. And if her writings bring people back to Jesus, Scripture, repentance, prayer, obedience, health, mission, the sanctuary, the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus— then let us tremble before calling darkness what may be heaven-sent light.
