When simultaneous disasters hit different countries around the world, humanitarian organisations say we suffer from ‘donor fatigue’. Let’s add one more: ‘compassion failure.’ Philosopher Miguel de Unamuno wrote, ‘Warmth, warmth, more warmth! For we are dying of cold and not of darkness. It is not the night that kills, but the frost.’ Think about this: of the 1,189 chapters in the Bible, 250 contain the words of the prophets. That’s roughly 25 percent. Half of what they say denounces sin and the other half condemns those who see human suffering and do nothing about it. Yet events that horrified those same prophets take place in our world every day, and we’re immune to them. Like wearing a watch, you get used to it and after a while you don’t even notice it. But the prophets noticed! They never became desensitised to sin—or human suffering. And you mustn’t either. It may be that they had recorded successes in previous battles, or have become famous for their accomplishments. They may deem themselves to be invincible, and either declare a war that's totally unnecessary, or inject themselves into other people's battles. In the end, they become the victims of their ego and exaggerated sense of power and importance.* *This is what happened to the kings of the nations on the east of River Jordan. The children of Israel were on a journey ordered by the Almighty God. They were heading to the land of Canaan, in fulfilment of the promise God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Their land was not part of Canaan, and therefore, was not intended to be inherited by the Israelites. The inheritance of the Israelites was to be solely Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. But on their way, the Israelites encountered nations that had heard about the supernatural work of God in bringing them out of Egypt. Although the Israelites did not declare war against them, these nations, some out of unfounded fear of losing their territory, and others out of envy and hatred against this nation that had a God that can subdue, humble and defeat Egypt, the great world power of the time, took it on themselves to stop Israel from progressing towards their land of promise. One of such kings was Sihon, king of the Amorites, whose nation was mainly a lush vegetation sandwiched by rivers and plain land that was a haven for pastoralists and for other forms of agriculture. The other king was Og, king of Bashan, a land of the remnants of the giants, with similar topography as the land of the Amorites. When they rose against the Israelites, they were roundly defeated, their kingdoms destroyed and their land confiscated by Moses. He subsequently allocated the land to two and half tribes of Israel, which desired to settle there because it was suitable for their vocation as pastoralists. Had those nations stayed out of the way of the Israelites, they would have remained in their land.* *We must be wise and not take on battles that are not ours, whether out of sympathy with other people or to prove that we are powerful. As believers, we have more than enough battles against principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places, against sin and Satan. The armour Christ has given us is intended to defeat these adversaries. It is not to be wasted on self-imposed battles that do not benefit the kingdom of God. Those who engage in the wrong battles suffer great loss, and live to regret it for the rest of their lives. Some are penned down in the Bible while there are many more that have been experienced by individuals, families, communities and nations since creation of man. The fact that God is immutable guarantees that those miracles can be repeated and increased in greatness and number. One of the greatest ways to strengthen faith is to deliberately rehearse God's faithfulness and meditate on those past wonders of God. Throughout Scripture, God often instructed His people to remember His mighty acts so that they would trust Him for future victories. Israel's conquest of the Amorites under Sihon and the later record of those victories in Joshua remind us that God's past interventions are powerful testimonies of His unfailing covenant. Every believer should cultivate the habit of recalling God's goodness instead of dwelling on past fears or failures. As we recount His faithfulness, our confidence in His promises grows. *1.Arrogant Courting of Battles* Israel peacefully requested passage through the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, but Sihon arrogantly rejected the request and chose war instead (Numbers 21:21–25). It is the norm in military warfare that you don't fight those who come and prefer peace to war. The worst is to lead them as captives. Sihon had taken pride in defeating Moab and taking her possessions (Numbers 21:26-2). Their victory over Moab was celebrated as it became a song in the land. He was optimistic and emboldened that he could repeat the same feat against Israel. However, he was thoughtless and proud. His pride blinded him to the fact that he was fighting against God's covenant people. It is dangerous and risky to fight against the covenant people of God. The battle ended in complete defeat of Sihon because no human strength can prevail against God's purpose. b. Believers have the domineering power of Jesus Christ to crush every power of the adversaries. However, this is not a license for believers to arrogantly court and tempt the people of darkness to unnecessary warfare. When Herod wanted Jesus to perform some miracles for a show of power, Jesus declined because it was unnecessary (Luke 23:8). When Satan tempted Jesus to jump down from the mountain, Jesus also declined because it was an unnecessary show of power. Believers should avoid unnecessary boasting and fight in the name of the Lord that is borne out of arrogance or pride. Believers should never fear opposition, for God remains the Defender of those who trust Him. At the same time, we must guard against pride, remembering that arrogance always invites destruction. *Question* Am I trusting God's strength in life's battles, or am I relying on human confidence and pride? *2. Appreciative Counting of Blessings* Joshua carefully recorded the kings and their land, whom God had delivered into Israel's hands (Joshua 12:1–5). These verses are more than historical records—they are memorials of divine faithfulness. God's people are encouraged to remember every victory and every answered prayer. Gratitude protects the heart from discouragement and unbelief. When we regularly count our blessings, we discover that God's mercies greatly outweigh our trials. Thanksgiving also prepares us to receive greater blessings from the Lord. As the psalmist puts it, *"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."* This will take a diligent and deliberate effort like Joshua did when he wrote down and recalled the good wonders of God to himself and to the whole Israel. *Question* How often do I deliberately remember and thank God for His past faithfulness in my life? *3. Additions to Covenant for the Beloved* a. The conquered territories were not part of the promised Canaan inheritance. But Sihon and Og lost their land through their pride and arrogance and those blessings were taken from them and added to the children of Israel (Joshua 12:6). After getting victory, Moses assigned the conquered territory to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance. God's faithfulness extends beyond victory in battle to the fulfillment of His covenant promises. b. There are several cases where God took away the assigned blessing of the arrogant and added them to the portion of the godly. Reuben and Esau were supposed to have the double blessings of their first born, but they both lost them through carelessness and profanity. Their blessings were added to Judah and Jacob respectively. Jesus warned the Ephesian Church of loss of ministry if they didn't repent from the loss of their first love and the immoral practices of the Nicolaitans(Revelation 2:5). He also warned the Pastor of Philadelphia that if he was not watchful, his crown would be taken from him and be given or added to another person. *"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown"* (Revelation 3:11). Remember, King Saul lost his crown, which was supposed to be generational, to David. The same with Esau and none of them could get his back. Fight and be watchful to retain and enjoy all your blessings and inheritance assigned to you by God. *Question* Am I very watchful and prayerful in ensuring that my blessings and inheritance are not taken from me and transferred to another person? *Prayer Points* 1.Heavenly Father, help me always remember and celebrate Your faithfulness in every season of my life 🙏. 2.Lord, deliver me from every form of pride, boasting and unnecessary show of power and grant me victory over every battle confronting my faith 🙏. 3.Give me a grateful heart that continually counts Your blessings instead of focusing on life's difficulties. 4.Give Your children grace to be watchful and prayerful and don't allow anyone to take their assigned blessings and inheritance 🙏. *HYMN:* Count Your Blessings *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 26-29. 2. Guard and Renew Your Mind (Romans 12:2) Your mind is a battlefield. Every day, you are exposed to thousands of messages telling you what to believe, what to desire, what success looks like, what happiness should look like, and what you should value. Social media. Music. Movies. Friends. News. Advertisements. The people you follow. The conversations you have. Even the thoughts you repeatedly tell yourself. Over time, these things can influence the way you think without you even realizing it. That's why the Bible says: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Notice the word: Transformed. Following Jesus isn't simply about changing your appearance or using Christian language. Jesus wants to transform the way you think. The way you see yourself. The way you see other people. The way you respond to temptation. The way you handle money. The way you define success. The way you deal with disappointment. The way you make decisions. The way you understand your purpose. The world constantly tells you: “Follow your heart.” But Scripture teaches us to allow God to transform our hearts and minds through His truth. Not every thought you have deserves to be believed. Not every desire should be followed. Not every opinion online deserves your attention. Not every trend deserves your participation. Not every voice deserves influence over your life. You need discernment. Ask yourself: “Is this helping me become more like Christ?” That question can change the way you consume content. Before watching something, ask. Before listening to something repeatedly, ask. Before following someone online, ask. Before joining a conversation, ask. Before accepting a popular opinion, ask: “Does this agree with God's truth?” This doesn't mean you should hide from the world. Jesus called His followers to be lights in the world. But being in the world doesn't mean allowing the world's values to control you. You can use social media without allowing social media to define your worth. You can enjoy entertainment without allowing entertainment to shape your morality. You can learn from people without making people your ultimate authority. You can be aware of culture without becoming controlled by culture. Guard your mind. Because what repeatedly enters your mind eventually influences your heart, your words, and your actions. If you constantly consume negativity, don't be surprised when negativity begins shaping your outlook. If you constantly compare yourself with others, don't be surprised when you become dissatisfied with your own life. If you constantly consume materialism, don't be surprised when you begin believing that possessions determine your value. If you constantly listen to voices that tell you that you're not enough, don't be surprised when insecurity takes root. But the opposite is also true. Fill your mind with God's Word. Fill your mind with truth. Fill your mind with gratitude. Fill your mind with encouragement. Fill your mind with things that strengthen your faith. The more you know God's truth, the easier it becomes to recognize what contradicts it. That's why reading Scripture isn't just a religious routine. It renews your mind. When God's Word says you are created in His image, you don't have to let social media determine your worth. When God's Word says you are loved by God, you don't have to chase everyone's approval. When God's Word says God is with you, you don't have to allow fear to control every decision. When God's Word calls you to forgive, you don't have to allow bitterness to become your identity. When God's Word calls you to purity, you don't have to follow every desire. When God's Word calls you to serve, you don't have to live only for yourself. The battle for your life often begins with the battle for your mind. That's why Proverbs 4:23 tells us: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Be careful what you allow to take root. And when wrong thoughts enter your mind, don't panic. A thought appearing in your mind isn't the same as choosing to embrace it. Bring it to God. Challenge it with Scripture. Replace lies with truth. Replace fear with faith. Replace bitterness with forgiveness. Replace comparison with gratitude. Replace hopelessness with the promises of God. Replace pride with humility. Replace selfishness with love. This is part of spiritual growth. You don't become more like Christ overnight. It happens as God continually transforms you. Day by day. Thought by thought. Decision by decision. So today, take an honest look at what has been influencing your mind. What are you watching? What are you listening to? Who are you following? What conversations are you constantly participating in? What thoughts do you repeatedly tell yourself? Are these things drawing you closer to Christ—or pulling you away from Him? You don't have to keep consuming something simply because everyone else does. You don't have to follow every trend. You don't have to accept every popular opinion. You have permission to say: “This isn't good for my spiritual life.” Then walk away. Your mind is valuable. Your heart is valuable. Your spiritual life is valuable. Protect them. And most importantly, give them to God. Don't allow the world to shape you more than God's Word does. Let Christ transform you from the inside out. Today, choose one unhealthy influence to reduce and one godly influence to increase. Spend more time in Scripture. Pray. Worship. Choose wise friendships. Consume content that strengthens your faith. And ask God to renew your mind. SHARPENING YOUR WEAPONS FOR WAR Every battle is easier to face when you have prepared for it before it arrives. A soldier does not wait until the enemy is approaching before checking his weapons. He prepares in advance because, when the battle begins, there may be no time to fix what should have been ready. The same is true in our walk with God. Ecclesiastes 10:10 says, “If the axe is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.” Sometimes the problem is not that we lack strength; our spiritual tools simply need sharpening. We cannot expect yesterday's prayer life to carry us through today's battles. Our faith needs attention. Our understanding of Scripture needs to grow. Our prayer life needs to remain alive. Worship, fasting, obedience, righteousness, and time in God's presence are not religious routines we perform when things go wrong; they are part of how we prepare ourselves before the pressure comes. There will be moments when fear speaks loudly, when temptation feels convincing, or when disappointment makes you question everything. In those moments, what you have built privately will matter. A strong public faith is usually developed through quiet, consistent preparation. Think about David. Before he ever stood before Goliath, he had already spent time in the wilderness protecting his father's sheep. He had faced a lion and a bear and learned to trust God in places where nobody was applauding him (1 Samuel 17:34–37). When Goliath appeared, David was not discovering faith for the first time; he was drawing on a faith that had already been tested. Jesus also repeatedly withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16; Mark 1:35). His public ministry flowed from a private life of communion with the Father. The secret place may look quiet and ordinary, but it is where spiritual strength is developed. That is why you should not wait for a crisis before you start praying seriously. Don't wait until you are discouraged before opening your Bible. Don't wait until temptation becomes overwhelming before strengthening your relationship with God. Sharpen your weapons while the battle is still quiet. Spend time with God when things are going well, so that when things become difficult, you know where to turn. 2 Corinthians 10:4 reminds us that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” God has given you what you need, but you must learn to use it. There will be battles you did not expect and moments that will test what you believe. You may not be able to choose when the battle comes, but you can choose how prepared you will be when it does. Keep your spiritual life sharp. Keep your heart sensitive to God. Keep your faith active and your relationship with Him genuine. Prepare in the secret place, so that you can stand with confidence in the public battle. Lifeline Today Friday August 28 Strengthened Internally that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, Ephesians 3:16 (NKJV) The might the Holy Spirit strengthens us with internally is not just for our use, but much more to reveal the Almighty whose Spirit dwells in us and affect or change the lives of others around us. It is not just about changing our life; it is more of raising us as a life-changers. We are empowered to operate as “saviours” as prophesied in the scriptures. (Obadiah 1:21). The Holy Spirit manifests in our lives with the aim of drawing lost souls to the kingdom through the transformation and life-changing experiences we witness time and again. The kingdom is the highest priority of God. (Matthew 6:33). It is the first plea in the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:10). The kingdom comes on earth when a soul comes to Christ through you! That salvation brings an increase or profit and fulfils the purpose of the might you are strengthened with by the Spirit. This is your day. SATURDAY 29TH AUGUST 2026 IGNITE YOUTH DEVOTIONAL Topic: Do Not Give Up on Your Dream Bible Reference Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV) A Short Story Esther had always loved fashion. Even as a teenager, she enjoyed drawing clothing designs in her notebooks and helping her friends choose what to wear. After completing her education, she decided that she wanted to build a fashion business. She believed that it was something she could become good at and that it could eventually provide a source of income for her and her family. However, the beginning was not easy. Esther did not have enough money to buy all the equipment she wanted. She started with a small sewing machine and worked from a corner of her mother's house. Her first few customers were people she knew, but some of them complained about her work. One customer refused to pay the full amount because she was not satisfied with the finishing. Esther became discouraged. She began to wonder whether she had made a mistake by choosing fashion. She saw other young designers on social media displaying beautiful shops, expensive machines, and large numbers of customers. Compared with them, her business looked very small. One afternoon, after another difficult week, Esther told her friend Sharon that she was thinking about giving up. Sharon listened and then asked her, What if you are not failing? What if you are simply still learning? That question changed Esther's thinking. She realised that she had expected success to come quickly. She had forgotten that every skilled person had once been a beginner. Instead of quitting, Esther began looking for ways to improve. She watched tutorials, asked experienced designers questions, practised every day, and listened carefully to customer complaints. She stopped using other people's success to measure her own progress. The business did not become successful overnight. Esther still had difficult months, but she kept improving. With time, her work became better, her customers became more satisfied, and more people began recommending her. Years later, Esther looked back at the little corner where she had started. She realised that the biggest decision she had made was not buying better equipment or getting her first major customer. It was choosing not to quit when things became difficult. Today's Message Many young people have dreams, but not everyone has the patience to keep working when the dream becomes difficult. You may have a business idea, a career goal, a ministry vision, a desire to write a book, a plan to learn a skill, or a dream of becoming financially independent. You may begin with excitement, but after a few disappointments, you may start wondering whether you should stop. Failure can make you question yourself. Rejection can make you feel unqualified. Slow progress can make you believe that nothing is happening. Seeing other people succeed faster can make you feel like giving up. But slow progress does not mean that your dream is dead. Galatians 6:9 tells us not to become weary in doing good because there is a proper time for harvest. The verse does not promise that everything will happen immediately. It reminds us that persistence matters. Sometimes you are closer to a breakthrough than you realise, but you stop because you become tired. Think about a farmer. After planting a seed, the farmer does not dig it up every morning to check whether it is growing. He waters it, protects it, and gives it time. Growth takes place even when he cannot see it immediately. Your life can be like that. You may be studying today without seeing the result yet. You may be learning a skill without earning much money yet. You may be building a business without having many customers yet. You may be serving God without seeing the impact yet. You may be working on yourself without seeing the changes immediately. Keep going. However, refusing to give up does not mean refusing to change your approach. Sometimes the dream is good, but your method is wrong. If something is not working, learn, adjust, and try again. Ask questions. Improve your skills. Seek advice. Correct your mistakes. Persistence is not stubbornness. Persistence means continuing toward a worthwhile goal while being willing to learn and improve along the way. You also need to stop comparing your beginning with somebody else's middle. You may see someone who has already built a successful business, written several books, established a ministry, or achieved financial stability. Remember that you may not know how many years that person spent learning and struggling before the results became visible. Do not despise your small beginning. Your first business may be small. Your first sermon may be imperfect. Your first book may not sell many copies. Your first job may not be your dream job. Your first attempt at something may fail. That does not mean you should stop. Learn from it and continue. There will be days when you feel motivated and days when you do not. Discipline becomes important when motivation disappears. You cannot build your future based only on how you feel each morning. Some days, you will have to keep working because you have already decided that the goal is worth pursuing. At the same time, remember that not every dream must be pursued forever. If God redirects you, if you discover that your plans are wrong, or if wise counsel shows you that you need to take a different path, be willing to adjust. Giving up on one plan is not the same as giving up on your purpose. What matters is that you continue moving toward the life God wants you to build. Do not let one failure become the final chapter of your story. You may have failed an examination. You may have lost a job. Your business may have failed. Someone may have rejected you. A relationship may have ended. An opportunity may have passed you by. Learn from it. Get up. Pray again. Plan again. Try again. Your present difficulty does not have to determine your final outcome. What To Do Today 1. Write down one important goal you have almost given up on. 2. Identify the main reason you became discouraged and decide what you can do differently. 3. Take one practical step toward that goal today, even if the step is small. 4. Ask a mature and trustworthy person for advice on how you can improve. Prayer Lord, give me strength when I become tired and discouraged. Help me not to abandon the good things You have placed in my heart simply because they are taking time. Give me wisdom to learn from my mistakes, courage to try again, and discipline to keep working. If You need to redirect my plans, help me recognise Your direction. But where You have called me to continue, give me grace not to give up. In Jesus' name, Amen. The Architecture of Reality: Beyond the Map of Theology The tragedy of the modern seminary is the man who spends four years refining a blueprint he never intends to build. In the landscape of professional theological formation, a subtle but devastating crisis has taken root: the tendency to mistake the "blueprint"—the systematic loci and taxonomies—for the "architecture" of the reality of God. The distinction is vital: Nobody has ever lived in a drawing. You can study a blueprint for a lifetime without ever visiting the site, and nothing in that study will warn you that you remain outside. To move beyond the taxonomy, we must engage the "Checkable Argument"—the exactly five sentences in the Johannine corpus where being is predicated of God absolutely: God is Love (twice), God is Light, God is Life, and God is Spirit. Crucially, Love is the only one repeated, once in a negative frame and once in a positive. This repetition is the strongest internal evidence that these declarations were given with a learner in view. Mistaking the map for the territory stalls spiritual perception; the five sentences are not a list to be filed, but a structure to be entered. The Problem of the Inverted Order The sequence in which we learn determines the shape of what we know. Traditional formation begins with "Method" or "Prolegomena," attempting to fix the criteria of knowing before stating the nature of the One known. Strategically, this is an inversion: it establishes a "criterion in the dark" by which to evaluate the sun. When we master the map before we see the country, we become "filers" rather than "knowers," and our formation stalls in the lobby. This inversion is exposed by the "Seam Test." Traditional theology "files" sin in one locus and God’s nature in another, leaving a gap where the two should meet. The Johannine Architecture closes these seams by recognizing that sin is simply the privation of what God IS. The difference lies in what governs the second step of inquiry: * The Conventional Order: Revelation → Extraction of Propositions → Philosophical Categories → Systematic Organization → Application. * The Revealed Order: Revelation → Revealed Pattern (The Triad) → Relational Reality → Integrated Understanding → Transformed Life. The Triad: Light, Love, and Life In the Johannine framework, God is defined by three co-inherent names: Light, Love, and Life. These are not attributes God has; they are names for what God is absolutely. They are not components, but a single movement where each grounds the next. We must distinguish between three deliberate orders: 1. The Nominal Order: (Love–Life–Light). The name as it rests in the ear, signifying a reality with no first and no last. 2. The Pedagogical Order: (Light → Love → Life). The path of learning for a creature standing outside. We begin with Light because nothing is loved which has not been shown. Light reveals reality; Love reorders the will toward it; and Life embodies it. 3. The Ontological Order (The Circle): The co-inherence of the divine nature where each is the whole of God under an aspect. In the Ontological Order, the walls are the foundation. Because this is a circle, removing one element abolishes the others. Light without Life is merely "information"; Life without Love is a contradiction. To understand God is to enter the circle where the three imply and contain one another perfectly. The Diagnostic Reversal: Evil as Privation If God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all, then evil cannot be a rival substance or an independent kingdom. Grounding the definition of evil in the "Light axis" protects the sovereignty of God and removes the Manichaean threat of a competing power. Evil is not a "thing"; it is a privation—the absence and corruption of a good that ought to be present. Using the imagery of Jeremiah, we see the contrast between the "fountain of living waters" and the "broken cisterns." Life is the running water; evil is the stale, leaking collection of the cistern that attempts to hold water apart from the source. This framework identifies three particular absences: * Love Disordered: Desire misaligned and bent away from its proper object. * Life Severed: The "broken cistern" attempting to hold existence apart from the Fountain. * Movement into Darkness: The active hiding from the Light to avoid the exposure of deeds. This necessitates a Diagnostic Reversal. Instead of hunting for "harmful substances," a community is directed to identify "absent goods." When we see evil as the privation of Light, Love, and Life, we move from a defensive posture of "hunting" to an architectural one of "building" the presence of the good. The Final Provocation: Restoration through Sight Theological formation is not a matter of habit-building or intellectual accumulation, but the reorientation of vision. Salvation is the restoration of a severed relation: to be loved, to participate in the divine life, and to see God as He is. "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." (1 John 3:2) Likeness follows sight. We do not become like God by cultivating capacities in the dark; we become like Him by looking at Him. The cost of ignoring this order is permanent: a man who waits for clarity before he obeys waits forever. The "map" is for the man who is outside, but once you enter the Architecture, the map is irrelevant. The road is a fact about travelers; it is not a fact about the destination. The way, the truth, and the life. Nobody has ever asked which came first, and nobody ever should have asked it of the other three.

Dear God, thank You for bringing me through another day. As I get ready to rest tonight, I’m being honest with You about what I’ve been feeding my soul lately. Your word in Matthew 4:4 says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” God, I’ve spent so much time craving things this world offers, things, success, recognition, and not nearly enough time craving You. That’s probably why I’ve felt anxious, restless, and disconnected. Help me build a real devotion life, not just going through the motions, but actually wanting more of Your presence. Show me who I’m spending my time with and whether they’re drawing me closer to You or further away. Thank You for hearing my prayer. I give this night to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
