While the chapter is largely a collection of family records, it communicates an important theological truth: every tribe and every family had a place within God’s covenant purposes. Parents, in turn, are instructed to raise their children with loving discipline and godly instruction rather than harshness or discouragement. Paul encourages believers to pray continually with perseverance for themselves and for one another. The redemptive plan advances as God's people remain dependent upon Him in prayer. Through prayer, believers receive strength, wisdom, courage, and endurance to faithfully proclaim the gospel of the Christ. Even while imprisoned, Paul asks for prayer that he would boldly proclaim the message of the Son of God. His concern is not for personal comfort but for faithfulness to the mission God has entrusted to him. This demonstrates the heart of Christian living. Every circumstance becomes an opportunity to glorify the Christ and advance His kingdom. The letter concludes with words of peace, love, faith, and grace. These blessings summarize everything Paul has taught throughout Ephesians. The believer's life begins with grace, grows through faith, is sustained by love, and rests in the peace that comes through the Christ. The redemptive plan finds its fulfillment in a people who live under His lordship and reflect His character to the world. Throughout Ephesians chapter 6, the Christ is revealed as the believer's strength, protector, commander, and victorious King. Every piece of spiritual armor points back to Him, and every victory is accomplished through His power rather than our own. The Son of God equips His people to stand firm until His work is complete. For believers today, this chapter reminds us that the Christian life is both a privilege and a battle. We are called to faithfully honor the Lord in our homes, our work, and our relationships while recognizing the reality of spiritual warfare. It may be that they had recorded successes in previous battles, or have become famous for their accomplishments. They may deem themselves to be invincible, and either declare a war that's totally unnecessary, or inject themselves into other people's battles. In the end, they become the victims of their ego and exaggerated sense of power and importance.* *This is what happened to the kings of the nations on the east of River Jordan. The children of Israel were on a journey ordered by the Almighty God. They were heading to the land of Canaan, in fulfilment of the promise God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Their land was not part of Canaan, and therefore, was not intended to be inherited by the Israelites. The inheritance of the Israelites was to be solely Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. But on their way, the Israelites encountered nations that had heard about the supernatural work of God in bringing them out of Egypt. Although the Israelites did not declare war against them, these nations, some out of unfounded fear of losing their territory, and others out of envy and hatred against this nation that had a God that can subdue, humble and defeat Egypt, the great world power of the time, took it on themselves to stop Israel from progressing towards their land of promise. One of such kings was Sihon, king of the Amorites, whose nation was mainly a lush vegetation sandwiched by rivers and plain land that was a haven for pastoralists and for other forms of agriculture. The other king was Og, king of Bashan, a land of the remnants of the giants, with similar topography as the land of the Amorites. When they rose against the Israelites, they were roundly defeated, their kingdoms destroyed and their land confiscated by Moses. He subsequently allocated the land to two and half tribes of Israel, which desired to settle there because it was suitable for their vocation as pastoralists. Had those nations stayed out of the way of the Israelites, they would have remained in their land.* *We must be wise and not take on battles that are not ours, whether out of sympathy with other people or to prove that we are powerful. As believers, we have more than enough battles against principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places, against sin and Satan. The armour Christ has given us is intended to defeat these adversaries. It is not to be wasted on self-imposed battles that do not benefit the kingdom of God. Those who engage in the wrong battles suffer great loss, and live to regret it for the rest of their lives. The fool deliberately denies the existence of God despite the many proofs of God's existence. He sees the sun, the moon, the stars, the seas and the uncountable creatures in it, but never pauses to ask: *"Who made the world?"* The things he sees tell him there is God, but in his heart, he refuses to give Him the glory. There is, however, another fool who accepts there is God but refuses to accept His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. This category of fools claim they can worship the Living God the way they like. They corrupt the way of worshipping Him; worshipping idols, the work of their hands. Some are penned down in the Bible while there are many more that have been experienced by individuals, families, communities and nations since creation of man. The fact that God is immutable guarantees that those miracles can be repeated and increased in greatness and number. One of the greatest ways to strengthen faith is to deliberately rehearse God's faithfulness and meditate on those past wonders of God. Throughout Scripture, God often instructed His people to remember His mighty acts so that they would trust Him for future victories. Israel's conquest of the Amorites under Sihon and the later record of those victories in Joshua remind us that God's past interventions are powerful testimonies of His unfailing covenant. Every believer should cultivate the habit of recalling God's goodness instead of dwelling on past fears or failures. As we recount His faithfulness, our confidence in His promises grows. *1.Arrogant Courting of Battles* Israel peacefully requested passage through the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, but Sihon arrogantly rejected the request and chose war instead (Numbers 21:21–25). It is the norm in military warfare that you don't fight those who come and prefer peace to war. The worst is to lead them as captives. Sihon had taken pride in defeating Moab and taking her possessions (Numbers 21:26-2). Their victory over Moab was celebrated as it became a song in the land. He was optimistic and emboldened that he could repeat the same feat against Israel. However, he was thoughtless and proud. His pride blinded him to the fact that he was fighting against God's covenant people. It is dangerous and risky to fight against the covenant people of God. The battle ended in complete defeat of Sihon because no human strength can prevail against God's purpose. b. Believers have the domineering power of Jesus Christ to crush every power of the adversaries. However, this is not a license for believers to arrogantly court and tempt the people of darkness to unnecessary warfare. When Herod wanted Jesus to perform some miracles for a show of power, Jesus declined because it was unnecessary (Luke 23:8). When Satan tempted Jesus to jump down from the mountain, Jesus also declined because it was an unnecessary show of power. Believers should avoid unnecessary boasting and fight in the name of the Lord that is borne out of arrogance or pride. Believers should never fear opposition, for God remains the Defender of those who trust Him. At the same time, we must guard against pride, remembering that arrogance always invites destruction. *Question* Am I trusting God's strength in life's battles, or am I relying on human confidence and pride? *2. Appreciative Counting of Blessings* Joshua carefully recorded the kings and their land, whom God had delivered into Israel's hands (Joshua 12:1–5). These verses are more than historical records—they are memorials of divine faithfulness. God's people are encouraged to remember every victory and every answered prayer. Gratitude protects the heart from discouragement and unbelief. When we regularly count our blessings, we discover that God's mercies greatly outweigh our trials. Thanksgiving also prepares us to receive greater blessings from the Lord. As the psalmist puts it, *"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."* This will take a diligent and deliberate effort like Joshua did when he wrote down and recalled the good wonders of God to himself and to the whole Israel. *Question* How often do I deliberately remember and thank God for His past faithfulness in my life? *3. Additions to Covenant for the Beloved* a. The conquered territories were not part of the promised Canaan inheritance. But Sihon and Og lost their land through their pride and arrogance and those blessings were taken from them and added to the children of Israel (Joshua 12:6). After getting victory, Moses assigned the conquered territory to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance. God's faithfulness extends beyond victory in battle to the fulfillment of His covenant promises. b. There are several cases where God took away the assigned blessing of the arrogant and added them to the portion of the godly. Reuben and Esau were supposed to have the double blessings of their first born, but they both lost them through carelessness and profanity. Their blessings were added to Judah and Jacob respectively. Jesus warned the Ephesian Church of loss of ministry if they didn't repent from the loss of their first love and the immoral practices of the Nicolaitans(Revelation 2:5). He also warned the Pastor of Philadelphia that if he was not watchful, his crown would be taken from him and be given or added to another person. *"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown"* (Revelation 3:11). Remember, King Saul lost his crown, which was supposed to be generational, to David. The same with Esau and none of them could get his back. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 ✍️ “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦; 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘪𝘵, 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦.” Starting well is important, but finishing well is essential. A new commitment, a new ministry, or a fresh decision to follow Christ can fill us with zeal. But many begin with excitement and grow weary when the road becomes difficult. Whether we are running with strength or barely taking the next step, the question is not whether we started—but whether we will remain faithful until the end. Near the end of his life, Paul declared in 𝟐 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝟒:𝟕, “𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘬𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩.” His journey was marked by persecution, imprisonment, rejection, and suffering. Yet he did not measure life by comfort or convenience. By God's grace, Paul finished the course God gave him. He did not quit when the race became difficult. A runner does not receive the crown for leaving the starting line, but for crossing the finish line. So it is with the Christian life. There will be hills that exhaust us, storms that slow us, and voices that tell us to quit. But every faithful step, even when it is weak and unseen, moves us nearer to the finish. Scripture calls us to endurance: “𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘳𝘶𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘴” (𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝟏𝟐:𝟏), while “𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩” (𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝟏𝟐:𝟐). We are also commanded, “𝘉𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘦 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦” (𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐:𝟏𝟎). Faithfulness is not measured by one moment of excitement, but by a life that continues to trust and obey Christ. The enemy does not need to make us openly deny Christ if he can simply make us quietly drift away. Don't run like a broken compass—moving constantly but going nowhere. “𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨” (𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟔:𝟗). We do not finish by our own strength; we finish by daily dependence upon the Saviour. Before Paul could say, “𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦,” Christ had already finished the work Paul could never do. On the cross, Jesus cried, “𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥” (𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟏𝟗:𝟑𝟎). He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures (𝟏 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟏𝟓:𝟑–𝟒). Our faithfulness does not earn salvation; Christ's finished work secures it. Because He finished redemption, we can faithfully finish our race. So where are you in the race today? What has tempted you to slow down, turn aside, or quit? We don't need Christ merely to help us cross the finish line—we need Him because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. The race may be long. The road may be hard. But the finish is worth the fighting for. Start faithfully. Stay faithfully. Finish well, willingly. 🌿 MINDFULNESS: THE WISDOM OF HOW WE TREAT ONE ANOTHER 🌿 Being mindful is more than simply being aware. It is remembering that we share this world with other people. It means practicing manners, decorum, etiquette, and civility—not because we are trying to appear perfect, but because we recognize the dignity of others. Sometimes wisdom sounds like speaking. Sometimes wisdom sounds like listening. And sometimes wisdom sounds like silence. 📖 “A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” — Ecclesiastes 3:7 There are moments when our words can encourage, correct, defend, or bring healing. And there are moments when speaking out of anger, pride, impulse, or frustration can cause unnecessary harm. 📖 “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” — James 1:19 The Bible reminds us that our words matter. 📖 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21 And sometimes the wisest response is simply to be still. 📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 Being still does not mean being indifferent. Being quiet does not mean being weak. Being civil does not mean permitting wrongdoing. Jesus Himself demonstrated that there is a time for gentleness and a time for righteous confrontation. Scripture calls us to pursue truth, justice, mercy, and righteousness—not merely comfort or appearances. So mindfulness asks us: Is this the right time to speak? Is this the right way to speak? Does this need to be said? Am I listening as carefully as I am speaking? Will my words bring understanding—or unnecessary injury? And perhaps most importantly: Am I treating people as members of a family whom God has commanded me to love? 📖 “Love one another: as I have loved you.” — John 13:34 📖 “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” — Romans 12:10 Christian love is not pretending that everything is acceptable. It is not concealing injustice. It is not remaining silent when someone is being harmed. Rather, it means learning to speak truth with love, to correct without cruelty, to disagree without contempt, and to stand for what is right without abandoning compassion. 📖 “Speaking the truth in love…” — Ephesians 4:15 There is tremendous wisdom in knowing the difference between silence that protects peace and silence that permits injustice. So today, let us be mindful. Mindful of our words. Mindful of our tone. Mindful of our surroundings. Mindful of other people’s dignity. Mindful of when to speak. Mindful of when to listen. Mindful of when to be still. And yes… Mind your P’s and Q’s. 😉 Not as an invitation to conceal who we are or to perform politeness for appearances— but as a gentle reminder to show respect, practice good manners, exercise self-control, and treat others with the dignity we hope to receive. Because kindness is not weakness. Civility is not compromise. Silence is not always surrender. And speaking up is not always unkind. Wisdom is knowing which moment requires which one. 🌿✨ “Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

MY JOY… YOUR JOY Jesus said, “That My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” — John 15:11 The joy Jesus gives is not the same as temporary happiness. Jesus’ joy came from complete surrender to the Father and the privilege of doing God’s will. His joy was not dependent on circumstances, good health, money, or seeing everything go perfectly. His joy came from knowing God and being in fellowship with Him. This challenges us because we often look for joy in what is happening around us. We become irritated when things don't go our way, and our worries gradually choke the Word of God. But Jesus wants us to discover a deeper joy—a joy that remains even when circumstances change. True Christian joy is found in being rightly related to God. When we stop making everything about ourselves—our success, recognition, comfort, or usefulness—and simply live for Christ, His life begins to flow through us. Like Jesus said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” The people who bless others the most are often those who are not even conscious that they are doing it. They are simply living in fellowship with Christ. So ask yourself: Where is my joy coming from? Is it from what God gives me, what people say about me, or what I accomplish? Or is my joy rooted in God Himself? When Christ becomes your joy, circumstances no longer have the final authority over your peace.
