PETER'S DENIAL of Jesus is the biblical account of the Apostle Peter claiming three times that he did not know Jesus on the night Jesus was arrested. During the Last Supper, Jesus told Peter that he would deny knowing him three times before a rooster crowed. Peter had insisted he would die before ever disowning Jesus. After Jesus was arrested, he was taken to the high priest's courtyard. Peter followed at a distance and sat by a fire with the servants and guards. A servant girl and other bystanders accused Peter of being a follower of Jesus. Under pressure and out of fear for his own safety, Peter denied it three times, escalating to swearing and cursing on the final denial. Immediately after the third denial, a rooster crowed. Luke's account notes that Jesus looked at Peter, causing Peter to remember the prediction, go outsid, and weep bitterly.
