TODAY'S KINGDOM INSIGHTS: SERMON TOPIC: 6 SIGNS SOMEONE ISN’T REALLY CHRISTIAN. “A Christian by Name, or a Christian by Nature?” Text: Matthew 7:21–23; 2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 John 2:3–6 🔥 NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS “LORD” KNOWS THE LORD. There is a dangerous assumption in Christianity today: “If someone goes to church, carries a Bible, posts Bible verses, sings worship songs, or calls Jesus ‘Lord,’ then that person must be a Christian.” But Jesus warned us that this is not always true. > “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 7:2 That statement should make every one of us pause. Jesus did not say, “Not everyone who attends church.” He said, “Not everyone who says, ‘Lord, Lord.’” This means it is possible to have Christian language without Christian life. It is possible to have a Bible in your hand but not have Christ in your heart. It is possible to be active in church but inactive in obedience. It is possible to know Christian songs without knowing Christ. And therefore, the question today is not: “Do people think I am a Christian?” The question is: “Does my life give evidence that I truly belong to Christ?” This message is not designed to judge other people. It is a mirror before it becomes a weapon. Before you examine your neighbor, examine yourself. LOOK AT THE 6 SIGNS:- 1. THEY HAVE NO GENUINE DESIRE TO OBEY CHRIST. A genuine Christian is not perfect, but there is a genuine desire to please God. Jesus said: > “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 Obedience does not save us; Christ saves us. But genuine salvation produces a desire to obey the One who saved us. Someone may say: > “Jesus is my Lord.” But if Jesus is truly Lord, He must have authority over your decisions. You cannot continually say: “Jesus is Lord,” while your lifestyle says: “I am my own lord.” Important distinction A true Christian can fall into sin. But there is a difference between: falling into sin and building your life around sin. There is a difference between: > “Lord, I have failed. Forgive me.” and: > “I know it is wrong, but I don't care.” The first demonstrates repentance. The second demonstrates rebellion. 2. THEY HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF SPIRITUAL FRUIT. Jesus said: > “Ye shall know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16 Notice that Jesus did not say: “You shall know them by their clothes.” He did not say: “You shall know them by their church attendance.” He said: “By their fruits.” What is growing in your life? Is there increasing love? Is there increasing patience? Is there forgiveness? Is there humility? Is there self-control? Is there compassion? Is there holiness? Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit. A genuine Christian should show evidence of spiritual transformation. Not perfection. Transformation. If someone has been claiming Christ for years but there is absolutely no evidence of Christlike character, that should lead to serious self-examination. 3. THEY LOVE THE WORLD MORE THAN THEY LOVE GOD. 1 John 2:15 says: > “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” The Bible is not saying Christians cannot enjoy God's creation, work hard, have possessions, or live normal lives. The warning is about worldliness becoming the master of the heart. When money becomes more important than righteousness... When popularity becomes more important than holiness... When sexual pleasure becomes more important than obedience... When social media approval becomes more important than God's approval... When material possessions become our identity... Something is wrong. Jesus asked: > “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36 A Christian lives in the world, but the world must not live in the Christian's heart. 4. THEY HAVE NO LOVE FOR OTHER BELIEVERS. This is one of the strongest biblical tests. 1 John 3:14 says: > “He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” Christianity is not merely about loving God with our lips. It also affects how we treat people. You cannot continually hate everyone, refuse forgiveness, enjoy destroying people's reputations, and then claim that your relationship with Christ is healthy. Jesus said: > “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” — John 13:35 Love does not mean allowing people to abuse you. Love does not mean approving everything people do. Love means treating people with the character of Christ. Ask yourself: How do I treat people who cannot benefit me? How do I treat those who disagree with me? How do I respond when someone succeeds? Can I forgive? Can I apologize? Can I celebrate another person's progress? Because sometimes the greatest evidence of Christianity is not what happens inside the church building, but how we behave outside it. 5. THEY ONLY FOLLOW JESUS WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT. Some people want Jesus as Savior but refuse Him as Lord. They want: Blessing without obedience. Breakthrough without discipline. Promises without repentance. Heaven without holiness. The crown without the cross. But Jesus said: > “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23 Following Christ will sometimes cost you something. It may cost you a relationship. It may cost you an opportunity. It may cost you popularity. It may cost you comfort. It may require you to say: “No.” when everybody else is saying: “Yes.” A genuine disciple does not follow Jesus only when following Him is profitable. Real Christianity is tested when obedience becomes costly. 6. THEY HAVE CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE BUT NO PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST. This may be the most frightening sign. A person can know about Jesus without actually knowing Jesus. You can memorize Scripture. You can preach sermons. You can sing worship songs. You can teach Sunday school. You can even perform religious activities. And still have a heart far from God. Jesus said in Matthew 7:23: > “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Those are terrifying words. Notice something: Jesus did not say: “You never knew about Me.” He said: “I never knew you.” Christianity is not merely information about Christ. It is relationship with Christ. You can know the Bible and not obey the Author. You can know Christian vocabulary and not know the Savior. You can sit in church every Sunday and still be spiritually lost. 📖 BIBLICAL CASE STUDY: JUDAS ISCARIOT One of the most sobering examples is Judas. Judas walked with Jesus. He heard Jesus teach. He witnessed miracles. He was among the disciples. He participated in ministry. Yet his heart was not surrendered to Christ. Eventually, he betrayed Jesus. This teaches us something uncomfortable: Being close to Christian activity does not automatically mean being close to Christ. You can be around the fire and still be cold inside. You can be around worship and still have an unconverted heart. You can be around pastors and still need salvation. You can be a church worker and still need Jesus. Therefore, don't ask: “How long have I been in church?” Ask: “Has Christ truly transformed my life?” 🔥 A DEEP SPIRITUAL TRUTH. Salvation is not proven by perfection; it is evidenced by transformation. The Christian life is not: > “I never make mistakes.” It is: > “I no longer want to remain the person I used to be.” When Christ enters a person's life, something begins to change. Their desires begin to change. Their priorities begin to change. Their relationships begin to change. Their attitude toward sin begins to change. Their hunger for God's Word begins to change. Their response to correction begins to change. Their heart begins to change. That is the work of grace. 🛠️ PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS. 1. Examine yourself Paul says: > “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5 Don't only examine your neighbor. Examine yourself. 2. Repent where necessary Don't defend what God is asking you to surrender. If the Holy Spirit reveals something, repent. 3. Return to God's Word Don't build your Christianity around social media quotes. Build it around Scripture. Read it. Study it. Believe it. Practice it. 4. Develop a genuine prayer life Prayer is not merely asking God for things. Prayer is relationship. Talk to God. Listen to God. Seek His will. 5. Look for spiritual fruit Ask: “Am I becoming more like Christ?” Not: “Am I better than someone else?” 6. Make Jesus Lord, not merely Savior Don't only ask Jesus to rescue you from hell. Ask Him to rule your heart. 🤔 QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION. 1. If someone watched my life for 30 days, would they see evidence of Christ? 2. Do I obey God only when obedience benefits me? 3. What fruit of the Spirit is growing in my life? 4. How do I treat people who cannot reward me? 5. Have I genuinely repented of my sins, or have I simply learned Christian language? 6. Do I know Jesus personally, or do I only know about Him? 🙏 POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS 1. Prayer of Examination Father, search my heart and reveal anything in me that is not pleasing to You. 2. Prayer of Repentance Lord Jesus, wherever I have lived in disobedience, forgive me and give me grace to turn completely back to You. 3. Prayer for Transformation Holy Spirit, transform my character and produce Your fruit in my life. 4. Prayer for Genuine Faith Father, remove every form of hypocrisy from my life. Let my Christianity be genuine, not merely outward. 5. Prayer for Love Lord, give me grace to love people sincerely, forgive quickly, and represent Christ correctly. 6. Prayer for Perseverance Jesus, when following You becomes difficult, give me strength not to turn back. 7. Prayer for Spiritual Hunger Lord, give me a deeper hunger for Your Word, prayer, holiness, and Your presence. 🔥 STRONG CLOSING: DON'T JUST WEAR THE NAME—CARRY THE NATURE. Church, the greatest question is not: “Am I called a Christian?” The greatest question is: “Does Christ truly live in me?” Don't be satisfied because your name is on a church register. Don't be satisfied because you have a Bible. Don't be satisfied because you attend Christian programs. Don't be satisfied because you can quote Scripture. Don't be satisfied because people call you “Brother” or “Sister.” Make sure you know Jesus. If you have drifted, come back. If you have been pretending, repent. If your faith has become merely religious, return to Christ. If you have never truly surrendered your life to Jesus, today is the day to surrender. Because one day, every religious mask will fall. Every title will disappear. Every reputation will disappear. Every earthly achievement will disappear. And we will stand before Christ. So let our prayer be: > “Lord Jesus, make me a genuine Christian—not merely a Christian by name, but a Christian by nature, character, faith, obedience, and love.” Don't just carry the Bible. Live the Bible. Don't just talk about Jesus. Follow Jesus. Don't just wear the name Christian. Let Christ be seen in you. May our lives preach the Gospel even when our mouths are silent. 🙏 THANK YOU, LORD, FOR THE GIFT OF LIFE Good morning, people of God. Good morning, humanity. ❤️ This morning, I want to begin with one simple and powerful word: Thank You, Lord. We do not know why we were born or why God has given us the grace to still be alive today. We did not choose to come into this world. Yet the Supreme Being, the God of Israel, freely gave us the precious gift of life and the breath in our lungs. So, if I were standing where you are today, what would I say? I would simply say: “Lord, thank You for everything.” Thank You for life. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the Holy Bible, which teaches us Your truth and gives us strength to believe, hope, and love more deeply each day. Every morning, I ask myself: “Lord, what can I still change in my life so that I can become a better person before You? How can I grow in holiness, humility, love, forgiveness, and truth?” Because walking with God is not simply about talking about God. It is about allowing God to transform the way we live. The Bible reminds us: “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 If my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, how can I despise it? How can I use my life to hurt others, hate, lie, humiliate, or destroy? And Scripture also tells us: “So God created mankind in his own image.” — Genesis 1:27 My brother, my sister, take a moment and think about this: You were created in the image of God. And so was your neighbor. The person you love was created in God's image. The person you struggle to love was also created in God's image. So why should we despise someone whom God created? Why should we hurt someone whose life has value before God? Why should we live in pride when everything we have is ultimately a gift of grace? And there is another truth that should live in our hearts every day: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20 Oh, Lord! If Christ truly lives in me, then my heart should reflect Christ. My words should reflect Christ. My actions should reflect Christ. The way I treat others should reflect Christ. My forgiveness should reflect Christ. My love should reflect Christ. Let us look around us and recognize the greatness of God. The birds of the sky, the trees, the stars, the beauty of creation—all remind us that we are not here by our own power. We are God's creation, standing before our Creator. And yet, God does not treat us according to our failures, our mistakes, or our pride. He continues to give us time. Time to repent. Time to change. Time to forgive. Time to love. Time to return to Him. That is the depth of His grace. God could have turned away from us because of our failures, but He continues to call us. He says, in essence: “Come back to Me. Change your heart. Love one another. Walk in truth.” That is why, people of God, we should never take life for granted. Every breath is a gift. Every morning is a blessing. Every new day is another opportunity to choose love, kindness, forgiveness, and faith. So let us not allow pride, hatred, ignorance, or bitterness to control our lives. Instead, let us ask God for hearts that reflect His character: A humble heart. A compassionate heart. A patient heart. A forgiving heart. A joyful heart. A heart ready to serve and do good. Jesus teaches us: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Matthew 22:39 Imagine what our world could look like if we truly lived by these words. Less hatred. Less revenge. Less violence. Less division. Less deception. And more forgiveness. More love. More respect. More kindness. More unity. More peace. More smiles. ❤️ That is a life that truly reflects God. So this morning, I invite you to say with me: 🙏 I was created in the image of God. 🙏 My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. 🙏 It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And above all, let us pray: “Lord, I recognize that my life is a gift of Your grace. Keep me from pride. Teach me to be humble, to love, to forgive, to serve, and to walk in Your truth. Let my life be a testimony of Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your love.” People of God, let us recognize God's grace while we still have time. May our lives not simply be long, but meaningful, faithful, holy, valuable, and pleasing to God. May God give us the wisdom to understand that every human being is precious in His sight—and therefore, every human being should also be precious in our eyes. Let us choose peace. Let us choose forgiveness. Let us choose love. Let us choose hope. Let us choose to be a blessing to someone today. Let us also ask ourselves a deeper question: If Jesus comes today, am I truly ready? Because the Rapture is real, but Jesus Christ is the real deal. And, that is the message before us today: THE REAL DEAL. LET US PRAY: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Open our hearts today and give us understanding. Let Your Word awaken us, examine us, and prepare us for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Above everything else, help us to know Jesus, live in Jesus, and remain in Jesus until the end. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen. LESSON: JOHN 14:1-3, 6 TOPIC: THE REAL DEAL TEXT: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NKJV) INTRODUCTION: Jesus promised that He would come again and receive His people to Himself. Scripture teaches that the Lord will descend, the dead in Christ will rise, and those who are alive and remain will be caught up to meet Him in the air. But the Rapture is not the real deal. Jesus Christ is the real deal. Because without Jesus, there is no Rapture for us. No Jesus, no Rapture! EXPOSITION 1 THE RAPTURE IS REAL: We must first establish this clearly. The Rapture is not a Christian fairy tale. It is not something invented to frighten people. It is part of the hope given to the Church. Jesus said in John 14:3: “I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” Notice something very important. Jesus did not merely say, “I will send somebody for you.” He said: “I will come again.” And Paul gives us the picture in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. He says the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God. The dead in Christ will rise first, and those who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. That is the Rapture. The word may be debated by people, but the biblical event is clearly described.There will be a resurrection. There will be a catching away. There will be a meeting in the air. And there will be a glorious reunion with the Lord. So, Christian, the Rapture is real. But don't stop there. Because there is something more important than knowing that the Rapture is real. You must know the One who is coming. The Rapture is an event. Jesus is the Person behind the event. The Rapture is a promise. Jesus is the Promiser. The Rapture is the catching away. Jesus is the One we are going to meet. That brings us to the heart of the message. EXPOSITION 2: JESUS CHRIST IS THE REAL DEAL From Genesis to Revelation, the great story of Scripture is pointing us toward God's redemptive work fulfilled in Christ. Jesus is not an addition to Christianity. Jesus is the center of Christianity. Remove Jesus, and Christianity has no foundation. Remove Jesus, and salvation has no meaning. Remove Jesus, and the resurrection has no hope. Remove Jesus, and the Gospel has no message. And remove Jesus from the Rapture... There is no Rapture for you. Jesus said in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Not a way. The way. Not a truth. The truth. Not merely someone who gives life. The life. That is why Jesus is the real deal. He is not an imitation Savior. He is not a religious symbol. He is not merely a great teacher among many teachers. He is the Son of God who came into the world, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and promised to come again. And notice how beautifully the Bible connects the resurrection, the Rapture, and Jesus. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 that because Jesus died and rose again, believers have hope concerning those who have died in Christ. Then he proceeds to explain the coming of the Lord and the catching away. Everything points back to Jesus. So don't make the mistake of becoming more interested in escaping the earth than in knowing Christ. Don't become so fascinated by the Rapture that you forget the One who is coming. Don't spend all your time asking: “When will the Rapture happen?” and fail to ask: “Am I truly in Christ?” Because the greatest question is not: “Will there be a Rapture?” The greatest question is: “Will I be ready for Jesus?” EXPOSITION 3: NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE Now we come to the heart of the message. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Let me say it again: NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Why? Look at the language of Scripture. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 does not simply say, “the dead shall rise.” It says: “The dead in Christ shall rise first.” That is the key. IN CHRIST. That is the qualification. The issue is not merely whether you attend church. The issue is whether you are in Christ. You may know Christian songs. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may carry a Bible. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have a church position. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may be called Pastor, Evangelist, Prophet, Reverend or Minister. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may come from a Christian family. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have been baptized. No Jesus, no Rapture. You may have preached to thousands. No Jesus, no Rapture. Because the Rapture is not a reward for religious appearance. It is the blessed hope of those who belong to Christ Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:21 that not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven. That should make every one of us examine ourselves. Because there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus. There is a difference between carrying Christianity and carrying Christ. There is a difference between having a religious identity and having a relationship with Jesus. So, my brother, my sister: Do you have Jesus? Not just religion. Jesus. Not just church. Jesus. Not just the language of Christianity. Jesus. Not just the appearance. Jesus. Because when that trumpet sounds, your title will not catch you up. Your denomination will not catch you up. Your money will not catch you up. Your popularity will not catch you up. Your social-media followers will not catch you up. It is Christ that matters. The Bible says: “The dead in Christ shall rise first.” And those who are alive and remain will be caught up to meet the Lord. So the destination is not even the most important thing. The destination is important because Jesus is there. Heaven is precious because Jesus is there. Eternal life is precious because Jesus is there. The Rapture is glorious because it brings us to Jesus. Therefore: THE RAPTURE IS REAL. BUT JESUS CHRIST IS THE REAL DEAL. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Say it in your heart. NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE! Get Jesus right. Live for Jesus. Walk with Jesus. Remain in Jesus. And when Jesus comes... be ready to meet Him. CONCLUSION JESUS IS THE REAL DEAL 🤝! The message is simple. The Rapture is real. But don't make the Rapture your god. Jesus is the real deal. Don't merely prepare for an event. Prepare to meet a Person. Don't merely look for the trumpet. Look to Jesus. Because NO JESUS, NO RAPTURE. But if you are in Christ, you have the blessed hope that when He comes, you will meet Him in the air and be with Him forever. Jesus is the real deal. PRAYER Lord Jesus, I need You. Forgive my sins, cleanse my heart, and make me truly Yours. Remove every form of hypocrisy, lukewarmness, and false confidence from my life. Help me to remain in You, walk with You, and live ready for Your coming. When the trumpet sounds, may I be found in Christ. May I not miss You. May I not miss eternity. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. 13. Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. *TOPIC:* REVERENCE GOD. *THE MESSAGE:* Man may not fully grasp God's ways; he must hold fast to His reverence and trust in Him as Creator. The Preacher cautions his listeners not to substitute wordly knowledge with God's wisdom. They must fear God and keep His command as a duty and live in view of His judgement. To fear God is to make Him the centre of your life - loving Him deeply, honouring His greatness and grace; and letting this reflect in your choices, words, and actions. Many young men claim to fear God, yet their lifestyle tells a different story. They can be seen to be very active in church but consult a marabou, practice harlotry, form a gangster to commit evil in society, or lead a bandit to attack communities. Does your life truly reflect your reverence for Him? Check what takes your time and allegiance. Time is fleeting. Take a stand today! *REFLECTION:* Fear God and keep His commandments. *PRAYER:* Lord, help me to reverence You. Amen. *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:* 2 TIMOTHY 2:21. GET TO THE ROOTS "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." - Hebrews 12:15 One day our son John-Henry had an outdoor survival event. At one point he had to jump from a three-meter high bridge into a deep, dirty ditch which was full of water and mud. He did not know that there was a sharp tree stump in the ditch, this penetrated his leg for 20 cm. He screamed in pain and was taken to the hospital by the team leaders. The wound was cleaned, but the x-ray image showed that a wood splinter was still in his leg. The wound was bandaged and seemingly it looked good. We were told that the splinter would naturally go out. However, a few days later when we removed the bandage, the wound looked worse and unclean. We prayed to God to touch him and anointed him with oil. The next day a sister from our church who was a nurse saw the wound and said that John-Henry had to go to the hospital right away. There the doctor concluded that John-Henry immediately had to undergo surgery. When that root of the problem, the splinter, was removed, the healing process began. The root of the problem We often do the same in life. As God's children we take care of the outward appearances but do not go to the root of our problem. We try to become different, to improve, but if we do not go back to the root of the problem, this will not help much. Do not apologize by saying: it is my upbringing, or it is my life environment. We often justify ourselves. To simply polish yourself on the outside does not solve the problem. The root cause must be dealt with. Maybe you are facing something similar in life today. Pray then: 'Lord, show me what the root is which causes me trouble every time.' Jesus can help you if you open your heart to Him. He will take the complete problem out of your heart and life. Our thanks are due to You for all You have been to us this week. You have been our Shepherd, leading us into green pastures and beside still waters. You have been our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. You have been our fortress, into which we have run in times of danger, finding deliverance. You have been our companion along the way, our guide, our guardian, our friend, our deliverer, our helper. Impress Yourself on our lives. Saturate our very being with Your own life, so that we may be transformed into Your own character! We pray tonight for the world outside. Much of it is without You and without hope. Remember the homes around us that are godless and prayerless. Find a way, O God, to enter these homes so that the children, at least, may be saved. We also pray for those who have sorrow in their homes and cry out for comfort. Wipe away their tears by revealing the truths that bring true consolation. We commit our own home to Your protection for the night. You who never slumber—be our keeper. Let no danger come near us. May Your peace rest upon our home. Prepare us for the duties of Sunday. A Blessed Prayer Festival We were blessed to welcome a sister and two brothers from Canada who came to join us in ministry. Together with our full ministry team, we organized a large Prayer Festival Program where many people gathered to worship, pray, and hear the Word of God. Thank you Jesus Titled: At His Feet bible text:(Luke 10:38-41). Are you at the feet of Jesus? Just like Mary in the book of Luke 10:39 Many of us are worried about so many things just Martha with so much things in our hands. Instead of worrying and troubled of so many things, there is just one thing needed to come at the feet of Jesus ( Luke 10:41), and surrender all your burdens and cares and take upon his yoke (voluntary) and learn of him, for his yoke is easy and the lord he would put us is light. (Matthew 11:28-30). Serving is great but if it has become more important than our lord then we need to back and sit at his feet ( discipleship fellowshipping with Him( in corrections, dealings, in sufferings, in bad days, good days, every moment, in total obedience and discipline) because discipleship is a lifelong process to be transformed into the image, the full personality of our master the lord Jesus Christ. The woman in the painting isn't just sitting at his feet but her gaze is fixated on him alone. Where is your gaze fixated at? Is it on storms, winds, which life is throwing at you? Remember when the book of Matthew 14:27-29 when peter walked on the water but due to a strong wind he was afraid he began to sink. Because he allowed the strong wind and fear which brings doubts in our hearts will make us sink in the waters of life, sweeps us by the strong wind just like a house built on sinking sand. Come my brother and sister at his feet with a faith so strong that no winds of life will sweep you off, hoping,trusting ever on our eyes being fixated on Jesus. The Story Behind the Hymns. THE STORY BEHIND " O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO" Some hymns are written with a pen while others seem to come from a wounded heart. “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go” was written in 1882 by George Matheson, a Scottish minister whose life had taken him through blindness, disappointment and deep personal sorrow. When he wrote those words, he was not writing about suffering from a distance. He knew what it meant to watch life change in ways he never expected. Matheson was born in Glasgow in 1842. As a young man, his eyesight began to fail, and he eventually became completely blind. Yet he refused to allow blindness to end his purpose. He studied at the University of Glasgow, entered the ministry and became a respected preacher and writer. His private life also carried a deep wound. Biographical accounts have connected his early heartbreak with the end of an engagement after his eyesight deteriorated. Whatever the precise circumstances, Matheson knew the pain of seeing a future he had hoped for disappear. Then came June 6, 1882. It was his sister's wedding day. While his family attended the celebration, Matheson remained alone at the manse in Ingram, Scotland. It was during that quiet evening that the hymn came to him. Matheson later said he wrote it in about five minutes and made almost no changes afterwards. From that moment of solitude came words that would eventually comfort millions: “O Love that wilt not let me go, I give Thee back the life I owe.” Those words are striking because Matheson was not asking God to give him a life without suffering. He was surrendering the life he had, with all its unanswered questions. He had lost his sight, he had known heartbreak and he could not see what the future held. Yet he could still trust. The hymn moves gently from surrender to faith: “O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be.” Matheson did not deny the rain but he acknowledged it. He believed that beyond it was a promise worth holding on to and that is what makes the hymn so deeply moving. It speaks to anyone who has ever sat alone with a broken heart, watched a cherished dream disappear or wondered how they would find the strength to face another day. Matheson could not see with his eyes, yet he wrote about a rainbow. He could not see the morning, yet he believed it was coming and perhaps that is simply the miracle at the heart of this hymn: a man living in darkness gave the world words about hope. “O Love that wilt not let me go.” More than 140 years later, those words still carry the same promise. When life becomes too heavy to understand, when the road ahead is hidden and the heart is tired, there remains a love that does not abandon us. A love that holds on. A love that sees us through the rain. A love that will not let us go.
