The Advent Truth The real reason Catholics attack sola scriptura is because if they admit it’s the truth, they’d have to let go of their idolatrous beliefs. That’s the issue. Sola scriptura does not mean Christians cannot learn from pastors, history, or other believers. It means Scripture alone is the final, infallible authority for doctrine and practice. And Scripture repeatedly points us back to the written Word. 📖 Isaiah 8:20 — “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” 📖 2 Timothy 3:16–17 says Scripture is inspired by God and able to make the man of God “perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 📖 Acts 17:11 praises the Bereans because they tested even Paul’s preaching by the Scriptures. Jesus Himself repeatedly answered religious controversy with, “It is written.” (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10) Why does this matter? Because once Scripture becomes the final authority, every doctrine has to stand before its judgment. Where does Scripture command Christians to pray to Mary? Where does Scripture teach us to invoke dead saints? Where does Scripture authorize the veneration of images in worship? Where does Scripture establish a human priesthood with power to absolve sins? Where does Scripture teach purgatory? Where does Scripture give one bishop universal supremacy over the church? If a doctrine cannot survive the Bible, adding “tradition” does not make it biblical. Jesus specifically warned about allowing religious tradition to override God’s Word: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition.” — Mark 7:13 That is why the authority question comes FIRST. If Scripture is merely one authority alongside an institution claiming authority to interpret Scripture and preserve binding tradition, that institution can defend doctrines Scripture never teaches. But if the Bible is the supreme standard, tradition must bow. Don’t ask, “What has my church always taught?” Ask, “What saith the scripture?” — Romans 4:3 Truth has nothing to fear from an open Bible.

The good part Our modern world often praises being busy. We fill our days with many tasks and distractions. This can make us feel important, but it also makes us forget what truly matters. We risk losing focus on Jesus. Jesus once spoke to a dear friend, Martha. He said: *"Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."* Martha was busy serving Jesus. She wanted to please Him. But her many tasks made her anxious. She lost her focus. **Mary chose to sit and listen to Jesus.** This was the better part. God does not need our constant work to advance His Kingdom. He wants our hearts first. There are moments when life feels like a prison—when the chains are heavy, the pain is real, and the answers seem nowhere to be found. Paul and Silas knew what it meant to suffer. They were beaten, wounded, and thrown into prison. Their feet were fastened in stocks, and yet at midnight, instead of complaining, they prayed and sang praises to God. Their circumstances did not change their worship. They understood something powerful: JOY IS NOT FOUND IN PERFECT CIRCUMSTANCES. JOY IS FOUND IN JESUS. Maybe today you are carrying your own “chains.” Maybe you are facing financial struggles, rejection, disappointment, family problems, unanswered prayers, or a battle that nobody else knows about. You may not be able to change your situation immediately, but you can choose how you respond to it. Pray when you feel weak. Praise when you feel broken. Trust when you cannot understand. Worship even when the answer has not yet come. Paul and Silas praised God before the prison doors opened. Their praise was not based on what God had already done—it was based on who God is. And sometimes, your greatest testimony begins in the darkest place. The prison could hold their bodies, but it could not hold their faith. The chains could restrain their feet, but they could not silence their praise. The pain could hurt them, but it could not separate them from God. So if you're going through a difficult season right now, don't stop praying. Don't stop believing. Don't stop praising. Your midnight is not the end of your story. Keep worshiping. Because the same God who was with Paul and Silas in the prison is still with you in your darkest hour. Your joy is not in the situation.
