📘 Daily Devotion — September 1 | Acts 23:11 (NKJV) 💯 When God Stands With You Paul was facing a difficult and uncertain moment. He had testified about his faith in Christ, and opposition against him was growing stronger. The situation had become so dangerous that the Lord personally came and stood by Paul, assuring him that he should not be afraid. God reminded Paul that his witness in Jerusalem was not the end of his calling. He would also testify about Christ in Rome. The circumstances around Paul looked threatening, but God's purpose for his life remained secure. This passage reminds us that God's presence does not disappear when life becomes difficult. There may be moments when we feel surrounded by opposition, uncertainty, disappointment, or fear. Yet the Lord knows exactly where we are, and He is able to strengthen us when our own strength feels insufficient. Jesus told Paul to be of good cheer because his journey was not finished. In the same way, believers can find courage in knowing that God is still working even when we cannot see what He is doing. Our responsibility is to remain faithful, trust His presence, and continue walking in obedience. God does not promise that every road will be easy, but He promises that we never walk it alone. When fear rises, we can remember that the Lord stands with His people and gives them courage to continue fulfilling the purpose He has given them. Reflection Questions 1. When simultaneous disasters hit different countries around the world, humanitarian organisations say we suffer from ‘donor fatigue’. Let’s add one more: ‘compassion failure.’ Philosopher Miguel de Unamuno wrote, ‘Warmth, warmth, more warmth! For we are dying of cold and not of darkness. It is not the night that kills, but the frost.’ Think about this: of the 1,189 chapters in the Bible, 250 contain the words of the prophets. That’s roughly 25 percent. Half of what they say denounces sin and the other half condemns those who see human suffering and do nothing about it. Yet events that horrified those same prophets take place in our world every day, and we’re immune to them. Like wearing a watch, you get used to it and after a while you don’t even notice it. But the prophets noticed! They never became desensitised to sin—or human suffering. And you mustn’t either. It may be that they had recorded successes in previous battles, or have become famous for their accomplishments. They may deem themselves to be invincible, and either declare a war that's totally unnecessary, or inject themselves into other people's battles. In the end, they become the victims of their ego and exaggerated sense of power and importance.* *This is what happened to the kings of the nations on the east of River Jordan. The children of Israel were on a journey ordered by the Almighty God. They were heading to the land of Canaan, in fulfilment of the promise God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Their land was not part of Canaan, and therefore, was not intended to be inherited by the Israelites. The inheritance of the Israelites was to be solely Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. But on their way, the Israelites encountered nations that had heard about the supernatural work of God in bringing them out of Egypt. Although the Israelites did not declare war against them, these nations, some out of unfounded fear of losing their territory, and others out of envy and hatred against this nation that had a God that can subdue, humble and defeat Egypt, the great world power of the time, took it on themselves to stop Israel from progressing towards their land of promise. One of such kings was Sihon, king of the Amorites, whose nation was mainly a lush vegetation sandwiched by rivers and plain land that was a haven for pastoralists and for other forms of agriculture. The other king was Og, king of Bashan, a land of the remnants of the giants, with similar topography as the land of the Amorites. When they rose against the Israelites, they were roundly defeated, their kingdoms destroyed and their land confiscated by Moses. He subsequently allocated the land to two and half tribes of Israel, which desired to settle there because it was suitable for their vocation as pastoralists. Had those nations stayed out of the way of the Israelites, they would have remained in their land.* *We must be wise and not take on battles that are not ours, whether out of sympathy with other people or to prove that we are powerful. As believers, we have more than enough battles against principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places, against sin and Satan. The armour Christ has given us is intended to defeat these adversaries. It is not to be wasted on self-imposed battles that do not benefit the kingdom of God. Those who engage in the wrong battles suffer great loss, and live to regret it for the rest of their lives. Some are penned down in the Bible while there are many more that have been experienced by individuals, families, communities and nations since creation of man. The fact that God is immutable guarantees that those miracles can be repeated and increased in greatness and number. One of the greatest ways to strengthen faith is to deliberately rehearse God's faithfulness and meditate on those past wonders of God. Throughout Scripture, God often instructed His people to remember His mighty acts so that they would trust Him for future victories. Israel's conquest of the Amorites under Sihon and the later record of those victories in Joshua remind us that God's past interventions are powerful testimonies of His unfailing covenant. Every believer should cultivate the habit of recalling God's goodness instead of dwelling on past fears or failures. As we recount His faithfulness, our confidence in His promises grows. *1.Arrogant Courting of Battles* Israel peacefully requested passage through the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, but Sihon arrogantly rejected the request and chose war instead (Numbers 21:21–25). It is the norm in military warfare that you don't fight those who come and prefer peace to war. The worst is to lead them as captives. Sihon had taken pride in defeating Moab and taking her possessions (Numbers 21:26-2). Their victory over Moab was celebrated as it became a song in the land. He was optimistic and emboldened that he could repeat the same feat against Israel. However, he was thoughtless and proud. His pride blinded him to the fact that he was fighting against God's covenant people. It is dangerous and risky to fight against the covenant people of God. The battle ended in complete defeat of Sihon because no human strength can prevail against God's purpose. b. Believers have the domineering power of Jesus Christ to crush every power of the adversaries. However, this is not a license for believers to arrogantly court and tempt the people of darkness to unnecessary warfare. When Herod wanted Jesus to perform some miracles for a show of power, Jesus declined because it was unnecessary (Luke 23:8). When Satan tempted Jesus to jump down from the mountain, Jesus also declined because it was an unnecessary show of power. Believers should avoid unnecessary boasting and fight in the name of the Lord that is borne out of arrogance or pride. Believers should never fear opposition, for God remains the Defender of those who trust Him. At the same time, we must guard against pride, remembering that arrogance always invites destruction. *Question* Am I trusting God's strength in life's battles, or am I relying on human confidence and pride? *2. Appreciative Counting of Blessings* Joshua carefully recorded the kings and their land, whom God had delivered into Israel's hands (Joshua 12:1–5). These verses are more than historical records—they are memorials of divine faithfulness. God's people are encouraged to remember every victory and every answered prayer. Gratitude protects the heart from discouragement and unbelief. When we regularly count our blessings, we discover that God's mercies greatly outweigh our trials. Thanksgiving also prepares us to receive greater blessings from the Lord. As the psalmist puts it, *"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."* This will take a diligent and deliberate effort like Joshua did when he wrote down and recalled the good wonders of God to himself and to the whole Israel. *Question* How often do I deliberately remember and thank God for His past faithfulness in my life? *3. Additions to Covenant for the Beloved* a. The conquered territories were not part of the promised Canaan inheritance. But Sihon and Og lost their land through their pride and arrogance and those blessings were taken from them and added to the children of Israel (Joshua 12:6). After getting victory, Moses assigned the conquered territory to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance. God's faithfulness extends beyond victory in battle to the fulfillment of His covenant promises. b. There are several cases where God took away the assigned blessing of the arrogant and added them to the portion of the godly. Reuben and Esau were supposed to have the double blessings of their first born, but they both lost them through carelessness and profanity. Their blessings were added to Judah and Jacob respectively. Jesus warned the Ephesian Church of loss of ministry if they didn't repent from the loss of their first love and the immoral practices of the Nicolaitans(Revelation 2:5). He also warned the Pastor of Philadelphia that if he was not watchful, his crown would be taken from him and be given or added to another person. *"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown"* (Revelation 3:11). Remember, King Saul lost his crown, which was supposed to be generational, to David. The same with Esau and none of them could get his back. Fight and be watchful to retain and enjoy all your blessings and inheritance assigned to you by God. *Question* Am I very watchful and prayerful in ensuring that my blessings and inheritance are not taken from me and transferred to another person? *Prayer Points* 1.Heavenly Father, help me always remember and celebrate Your faithfulness in every season of my life 🙏. 2.Lord, deliver me from every form of pride, boasting and unnecessary show of power and grant me victory over every battle confronting my faith 🙏. 3.Give me a grateful heart that continually counts Your blessings instead of focusing on life's difficulties. 4.Give Your children grace to be watchful and prayerful and don't allow anyone to take their assigned blessings and inheritance 🙏. *HYMN:* Count Your Blessings *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 26-29. 2. MONDAY MORNING PRAYER “GRACE TO EXPAND!” Scripture — Isaiah 54:2–3 (KJV) “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left...” Heavenly Father, we come before You this Monday morning with grateful hearts. Thank You for waking us up, giving us another day, and allowing us to begin a new week in Your presence. Lord, after receiving such a powerful Word, “GRACE TO EXPAND,” don't let us simply be hearers of the Word—give us the faith and courage to walk it out! Father, You said, “Enlarge the place of thy tent.” So enlarge our faith. Enlarge our vision. Enlarge our capacity. Enlarge our compassion. Enlarge our influence. Enlarge our ability to serve You and others. Where we have become comfortable, stretch us. Where we have become fearful, strengthen us. Where we have been thinking too small, expand our vision. Where we have experienced limitations, give us grace to break forth! Lord, as You lengthen our cords, strengthen our stakes. Give us strong prayer lives, strong families, strong marriages, strong relationships, strong churches, strong character, and an unshakable foundation in Your Word. This week, prepare us for what we have been praying for. Give us the discipline to handle the doors You open, the wisdom to steward the blessings You release, and the humility to remember that every increase comes from You. Remind them that their present circumstances do not determine the limits of what You can do. Your grace is still sufficient, Your power is still mighty, and Your promises are still sure! Monday, 31st August, 2026 TITLE: "FINISH STRONG: PRESS TOWARD THE PRIZE" ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S) 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (KJV) "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." Philippians 3:14 (KJV) "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." QUOTE TO REFLECT ON “Do not stop because the journey is difficult; keep pressing until you reach God's appointed finish line.” DAY'S REFLECTION Life is not only about how we start; it is also about how we finish. Paul, looking back over his life and ministry, confidently declared, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” The word “fight” reminds us that the Christian journey requires spiritual determination. There will be opposition, temptation, disappointment, discouragement, and seasons when continuing becomes difficult. But a believer must not surrender the faith because the road becomes challenging. “I have finished my course” speaks of completing the assignment God gave him. Every person has responsibilities, opportunities, and purposes that God expects them to fulfil. We should not spend our lives comparing our race with someone else's. Run your course faithfully. Paul also says, “I have kept the faith.” To keep means to preserve, guard, and remain faithful. Circumstances may change, people may disappoint us, and prayers may take longer than expected, but our confidence in God must remain. Philippians 3:14 adds, “I press toward the mark.” To press means to pursue with determination and earnest effort. Paul was not looking backward at past achievements; he was moving forward toward “the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Life experience teaches us that many people begin with enthusiasm but struggle to finish. A runner may start strongly but victory requires endurance until the end. Likewise, our Christian journey requires consistency—not merely occasional passion. As we come to the end of August, take a moment to reflect. There may have been victories, failures, delays, disappointments, and answered prayers. Whatever happened, do not stop moving forward. Learn from yesterday, remain faithful today, and press toward what God has ahead. Paul's greatest reward was not earthly recognition but “a crown of righteousness” from the Lord. This reminds us that faithful service to God is never wasted. Even when people do not notice our sacrifices, God sees them. Therefore, finish strong. Keep your faith. Keep your integrity. Keep serving. Keep praying. Keep pursuing Christ. The goal is not merely to begin well, but to finish faithfully. Do not compare your race with another person's journey. 4. Guard your faith even when circumstances become difficult. Past achievements should not prevent you from pursuing God's future purpose. 5. God rewards faithful endurance. Keep your eyes on Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith. EVERYDAY ACTION Leave yesterday's failures behind. Identify one goal God has placed before you. Take one purposeful step toward it. Refuse to give up when difficulties arise. Keep your eyes on Christ. Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you. Have you ever noticed that certain songs stick with you for like, forever? For example, the first few notes of the Jaws theme and you are right back in the movie theater. Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out for a Hero '”, Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’; just to name a few. I realize that I just dated myself with these music choices, but that is okay. I don’t mind. For me, I have a couple of songs that I will stop in my tracks for … one is The Dance by Garth Brooks; we were married to it and here recently is a song by Josh Wilson, “How Loved You Are”. This song came up in my social media feed with the caption, “I cried when I made this.” The video was of several people in a variety of social statuses. All were standing in front of a mirror, singing the song or lip-syncing. This particular video of this song really puts a light and a heart around the song. I mean, the song itself is wonderful and if you listen to the lyrics- I mean, really listen- you will see yourself in the song … at some point in your life. I went for a walk yesterday with only that song playing, and it created a pace of focus for me, as my time on the walk was brisk. This morning, I woke up to that song in my head. It has been a minute since I woke up to music bouncing around my brain, but I am guessing God really wants me to (hear) the lyrics. As we walk different streets in our lives- storms, victories, daily normalcy- if things do not go ‘perfectly’ we start to pull and pick at the imperfections and look down at ourselves, feel poorly about ourselves, and think that we are not worthy or important enough for God. That our imperfections were more than Jesus could cover with his blood. That we are not … not enough. It is okay to find and see the errors of the day so that you can improve and grow; however, it is not okay to think that Jesus could not possibly care for you. That your errors or sins were too great for His blood to cover. That, my friends, is the enemy attacking you and trying to convince you to turn away and turn to him. Those thoughts are the minions of hell picking away at your armor and attempting to persuade you to change sides. Or, if you don’t change sides, he will use those target areas to steal your peace and joy. He knows if you walk around defeated, your presence in that form will help him steal another soul who you might have helped or been able to help … if you could see yourself from His eyes. We are all sinners. WE all fall short of the glory of God. We all have those days when we are just down and trying to figure it out. That is normal life. It is how we rebound from those bad days that is the true testament to how beautiful and powerful His love for us is. That is what draws more souls to Him. How we deal with difficulties and trying times. How we recover from loss. How we handle sudden changes and shocks. How we handle the enemy’s attempts to steal our peace … that is what shows the world that Jesus is truly our Lord and is in control. This song, How Loved You Are, is a powerful reminder of just that. It demonstrates His love for all his children and reminds us that he died for us; He was willing to leave the 99 for us, that his love for us is unconditional. I encourage you today to look for that video and listen with an open heart and mind. Let the love of Christ fill you today on this beautiful Lord’s Day morning. Daily devotion for August 29th The True Sabbath Rest In those days I saw men in Judah treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on donkeys, together with wine, grapes, figs and all other kinds of loads. And they were bringing all this into Jerusalem on the Sabbath, Therefore I warned them against selling food on that day. Nehemiah 13:15 Nehemiah was concerned by this disregard for the Law. He is trying to correct the difficulties that had caused problems for Israel in the past. So he orders the gates to be closed at sunset on Friday. He requires the Levites to cleanse themselves and to guard the gates so that no one violates the Sabbath. Should we also keep the Sabbath by refraining from work and travel? As we have seen throughout this book, these regulations imposed upon Israel were what the New Testament calls shadows, pictures of something even more important that God wants observed. You observe the Sabbath when you fulfill what the Sabbath portrays. At the heart of the Sabbath is the word rest. The Sabbath is intended for people, that they may learn to rest. The Sabbath is God's stress management program! It is how to prevent burnout—how to recover from too much pressure and catch up with yourself. It is how to gather yourself together and become able to handle the work you must do. There are two reasons given in the Scripture for the Sabbath. The first one is found in Exodus 20:11. There we are told that because God finished creation in six days and then rested on the seventh day, He asked His people to rest after six days of labor. Why did God rest? He accomplished His objective. People too must recognize a limit to their work. There is a need to stop, to allow the body, mind, and spirit to recognize their limitations. The second reason the Sabbath was given is often ignored. God said to Israel, Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day (Deuteronomy 5:15). They were to rest in order to reflect on God's ability to work beyond the labors they had already completed. So there are two aspects of the Sabbath—creation and redemption. There is a rest of cessation; a ceasing from our own works. But then there is the rest of rejoicing in the mighty delivering power of God. Father, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of my life, teach me that I need to enter into the rest of creation and redemption, always remembering that Your work comes before my work.

Prayer for the People of Nepal 🇳🇵🙏 Dear Lord, We pray for the people of Nepal who are suffering because of the floods. Many lives have been lost, and many families are facing great difficulties. Lord, please have mercy on them, protect those who are still in danger, and comfort the families who have lost their loved ones. Please provide shelter, food, safety, and strength to those affected. Give wisdom and courage to the rescue teams and everyone helping the victims. May Your loving hand be upon the people of Nepal and bring them hope, healing, and peace. Lord, please help and protect Nepal. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🇳🇵

Lifeline Today Saturday August 29 Troubles Never Last! "For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!" 2Corinthians 4:17 (NLT) Problems are the prices of progress; to make progress, you must face problems. The obstacles of life are intended to make us better not bitter; stronger not strugglers, smarter not smaller. Adversities have advantages. Challenges carry changes within them. Obstacles are merely a call to strengthen, and not to quit. Between you and anything significant will be giants in your path; be ready to face them! Any path you find with no resistance is a trap in disguise. If you like things easy, you will have difficulties. If you like problems, you will succeed. The biggest successes are the ones who solve the biggest problems. Joseph solved the problem of Egypt and became a governor. David killed the giant tormenting Israel and became the king. Every problem you face is simply an opportunity for you to be your best. This is your day. Wisdom Fountain: "Victory comes from finding opportunities in problems." Prayer: Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that You are the God of divine turnarounds, able to take every obstacle, delay, and trial and convert it into a stepping stone for progress. I receive wisdom to see the hidden lesson in every struggle. I ask for strength to rise above every delay and the courage to push past every limit. I see every stumbling block in my way turn into stepping stones and whatever the enemy meant for my harm flipped over for my breakthrough and growth in Jesus’ name.

SELF-PITY IS ALSO A STRONGHOLD There is a world people can build inside themselves. A world called self-pity. Self-pity says: "Nobody understands me." "Nobody sees what I have suffered." "Nobody appreciates me." "Look at everything that has happened to me." Now, there are real difficulties in life. People go through painful experiences. People have been hurt, but there is a difference between acknowledging pain and building your identity around pain. Self-pity keeps bringing you back to yourself. Everything becomes about your disappointment. Everything becomes about what people did to you. Everything becomes about what you did not receive. And slowly, you become trapped in a world where you are always the victim. Look at Elijah. After Jezebel threatened him, he ran away and sat under a tree. When God asked him what he was doing there, Elijah answered by focusing on himself. He said he had been very jealous for The Lord,.... but he was the only one left (1 Kings 19:10) But Elijah was not seeing the situation correctly. God still had people, and He was still working. The problem was not that Elijah had experienced difficulty. The problem was that his pain had become his entire perspective. Self-pity can make you forget God's bigger picture. It can make you abandon your assignment. You must burn down that world — not because your pain is fake, but because your pain cannot become your master. You are not only what happened to you. You are not only what people did to you. You are a child of God with a purpose. Do not allow self-pity to become a place you live. God has more for you than constantly looking at yourself and your wounds. Remember this Scripture and let The Word spoken there be your comfort: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith The LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. God's Purpose - Psalm 18:28 by Carl H. Stevens There certainly will be times in our lives when we will be surrounded by darkness. Our first reaction is often to get out of it as quickly as possible, but let us consider the purpose God has for troublesome times. In difficulties, we can do one of two things: we can draw near to God (2), or we can run away from the trial set before us. We can expect to have great loneliness while in darkness. Psalm 88:18 says, "Lover and friend thou hast put far from me..." God does this so we will seek Him out and allow Him to become our source of life, rather than people. We must search for the light, knowing that He is Light (3). Light always arises out of darkness (4). Each night has a morning. These times of darkness will be great, and may be painful, but if you do not depart from the Word and continue to feed upon it, then Christ will become your provision. Psalm 112:7-8 tells how the writer´s heart was fixed on trusting the Lord. Do not despair while in darkness. Use it as an opportunity to draw near to Him Who does not change (6). You may discover riches stored in those dark places (7). Psalm 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Isaiah 42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. Psalm 112:7-8 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
