How Much Is Your Soul Worth?

People spend their whole life trying to achieve “success,” striving for fame, fortune, and power - but when you think about it, what is the real meaning of success anyway? For some, it’s how much money they have in the bank, driving a fancy car, sending their kids to the best schools, or having power and influence. But no matter how high a status you reach in the eyes of others, nothing is more important than the value of your soul! The Bible says in Mark 8:36-37, “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” The devil uses the trappings of this world to blind you from what really matters, and that’s staying close to God! You can’t begin to even imagine how much you mean to our heavenly Father until you think of His great sacrifice on Calvary. Only then can you start to imagine just how much you mean to Him. So if you’re wondering how much your soul is worth - well, Jesus loves you so much so that He left the splendor of heaven to give His life, dying on a cross so that you can live with Him for all eternity. And you just can’t pay a higher price than that! Text: Ephesians 5:1-2, Luke 19:10, 1 John 4:12, John 3:16

A life that is formed in the secret place will eventually reveal visible power.

“A life that is completely surrendered to Jesus in private becomes a life of visible power for His Kingdom.”

Look at the life of Jesus!

Before ministering with power before the people and before making great decisions, Jesus often withdrew from the crowds and spent time alone with the Father.

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
— Luke 5:16

Before going to the cross, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus completely surrendered Himself to the Father’s will:

“Not my will, but yours be done.”
— Luke 22:42

There, the surrender that happened in secret, unseen by human eyes, opened the way for the victory the world would witness at Calvary!

This is the power of the secret place!

The tears you shed in the secret place
will become your testimony in the public place.

The prayers you offer in the secret place
will release God’s power in your life.

The surrender no one sees
is the calling God sees.

Those who remain close to God
will carry His glory in the public place.

This is not a season to hide;
it is a season to be prepared!

The more you surrender to God in the secret place,
the more powerfully He will use you in the public place.

Your Secret Place → Your Strength.
Your Surrender → Your Authority.
Your Prayer → Your Breakthrough.
Your Obedience → Your Testimony.

Stay alone with Jesus.

One day, your very life will become a visible testimony of His glory!

Prayer:

Prayer:

THE DANGER OF DISOBEDIENCE

“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” — 1 Samuel 15:22



Saul was given a clear instruction from God, but he chose to obey only partially. He kept what God had commanded him to destroy and then tried to justify his actions.

This teaches us that partial obedience is still disobedience.

Sometimes we want to give God our own version of obedience. We may pray, worship, give offerings, and serve in church, yet knowingly hold on to something God has told us to release.

God is not looking only for religious activities. He desires a heart that listens and obeys His Word.

When we disobey, let us not make excuses or blame others. Let us humble ourselves, acknowledge our wrong, and repent.

Obedience may not always be easy, but it is always better than trying to replace obedience with religious sacrifice.

Don't obey God only when His instructions are convenient. Trust Him enough to obey completely.

TRUST GOD—EVEN WHEN IT LOOKS BAD!

Focus Scripture — Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Thought Of The Day...
There are seasons when trusting God is easy because everything seems to be working out. The doors are opening. The prayers are being answered. The family is doing well. The bills are getting paid. Your plans are coming together.
But can you still trust God when everything looks bad?
Can you trust Him when the report isn't what you wanted?
Can you trust Him when the money is running low?
Can you trust Him when the relationship is struggling?
Can you trust Him when the door closes?
Can you trust Him when you prayed—and nothing seems to have changed?
Can you trust Him when you cannot understand what God is doing?
That's where real trust is developed.
WHEN WHAT YOU SEE DOESN'T MATCH WHAT GOD SAID
Proverbs tells us:
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Our understanding is limited because we can only see what is happening right now.
But God sees the beginning, the middle, and the end.
We see the problem.
God sees the purpose.
We see the closed door.
God sees the better door.
We see the delay.
God sees the appointed time.
We see what we're losing.
God sees what He's preparing.
That's why God tells us not to lean entirely upon our own understanding. Sometimes what God is doing will not make sense while you're going through it.
Joseph's pit didn't look like promotion.
Israel standing at the Red Sea didn't look like deliverance.
Daniel's lions' den didn't look like protection.
The three Hebrew boys standing before the fiery furnace didn't look like victory.
Jesus hanging on Calvary didn't look like resurrection.
But what looked bad wasn't the end of the story!
And whatever you're facing today, don't judge the ending by what you're seeing in the middle.
1. TRUST GOD WHEN YOU CAN'T TRACE GOD
Sometimes God will allow you to walk through a season where you cannot figure Him out.
You prayed.
You believed.
You obeyed.
Yet things appear to have gotten worse instead of better.
Job declared:
“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.” — Job 13:15 (KJV)
Job was essentially saying, I don't understand what God is allowing, but my confusion will not cancel my confidence in Him.
That's mature faith.
Faith doesn't require God to explain everything before we trust Him.
Sometimes you have to say:
“Lord, I don't understand it—but I trust You.”
2. DON'T LET WHAT YOU SEE MAKE YOU FORGET WHAT GOD SAID
The enemy wants your circumstances to become louder than God's promises.
But Scripture declares:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
Sight says, “It's impossible.”
Faith says, “With God all things are possible.”
Sight says, “You're surrounded.”
Faith says, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Sight says, “There's no way out.”
Faith says, “God will make a way.”
Your circumstances may be real, but they don't have the final word—God does!
3. GOD IS WORKING EVEN WHEN YOU CAN'T SEE IT
One of the hardest parts of trusting God is believing He's working when there is no visible evidence.
But Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”
Notice Scripture doesn't say everything is good.
Some things hurt.
Some things disappoint us.
Some things break our hearts.
Some things leave us with questions.
But God has the power to take even the things that were not good and cause them to work together for good.
Just because you can't see God moving doesn't mean God isn't moving.
He can be arranging things you know nothing about.
Opening doors you haven't reached yet.
Touching hearts you haven't spoken to.
Blocking things you thought you needed.
Preparing answers to prayers you almost stopped praying.
God can be working behind the scenes while you're wondering whether He's working at all.
4. DON'T PANIC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORY
You may be looking at your situation and thinking, “How is this going to work out?”
You don't have to know how.
You just have to know Who.
Psalm 46:1 declares:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God didn't promise that trouble would never come.
He promised that when trouble comes, you won't face it alone.
So don't panic because the chapter you're currently reading looks bad.
God is still writing your story.
Your setback may become the setup.
Your disappointment may become divine direction.
Your closed door may become God's protection.
Your wilderness may become your training ground.
Your waiting season may become your preparation season.
Don't put a period where God has only placed a comma.
REMEMBER THIS TODAY
When things look bad, God is still good.
When you can't see the way, God still knows the way.
When you don't understand the plan, God still has a plan.
When you feel surrounded, God is still with you.
When you don't know what tomorrow holds, God is already there.
So instead of saying,
“God, look how big my problem is!”
Start declaring,
“Problem, look how BIG my God is!”
Your situation may look bad today.
BUT GOD IS NOT FINISHED!

DECLARATION...
I WILL TRUST GOD EVEN WHEN I DON'T UNDERSTAND!
I will not allow what I see to destroy what I believe.
I will not allow fear to speak louder than God's promises.
I will not panic because things look bad.
My God is faithful.
My God is working.
My God is with me.
My God has not forgotten me.
And even when I cannot see His hand, I will trust His heart.
I'M GOING TO TRUST GOD UNTIL THE STORY CHANGES!

PRAYER...
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, we thank You because You are trustworthy even when life is uncertain.
Lord, some of us are facing situations that don't look good. Some are carrying family concerns, financial pressure, disappointment, unanswered questions, closed doors, and burdens nobody else knows about.
But today we choose faith over fear and trust over worry.
When we cannot understand Your plan, help us trust Your wisdom. When we cannot see Your hand, help us remember Your faithfulness.
Remind us that You are working even when we cannot see it.
Give us peace while we're waiting, strength while we're walking, and faith while we're believing.
And when fear whispers, “It's over,” remind us that You have the final word!
We declare that our circumstances will not determine our confidence in You.
We trust You when it looks good.
We trust You when it looks bad.
We trust You when we understand.
And we trust You when we don't.
Because You have never stopped being God!

THE GOSPEL FROM CALVARY

Friday, 28th August, 2026

JESUS: THE LIGHT THAT OPENS BLIND EYES

TEXT: JOHN 9:1–41

KEY VERSE:

«“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” — John 9:5 (KJV)»

John 9 introduces us to a man who had been blind from birth.

His blindness had become the subject of questions and assumptions. The disciples asked Jesus whether the man's blindness was caused by his own sin or the sin of his parents.

But Jesus redirected their attention from blame to God's purpose.

He said:

«“Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.” — John 9:3»

Jesus then healed the man.

But the miracle did more than open physical eyes.

It revealed a deeper truth:

Jesus came to open spiritual eyes and lead people from darkness into His marvelous light.

THREE LESSONS FROM JOHN 9

DON'T ALLOW YOUR PAST CONDITION TO DEFINE YOUR FUTURE.

The man had been blind from birth.

His condition had existed for years, but Jesus was not limited by how long the problem had lasted.

Some situations may look permanent to people, but they are not beyond the power of God.

You may have struggled with something for years.

You may have experienced repeated disappointments.

You may have been told that nothing can change.

But remember:

Jesus is still able to change lives.

Don't allow your history to become your identity.

Don't allow people's opinions to become your destiny.

Keep trusting Christ.

JESUS OPENS BOTH PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL EYES.

Jesus gave sight to the blind man, but the greater miracle was the man's growing understanding of who Jesus was.

At first, he referred to Jesus as:

“a man.”

Later, he recognized Him as a prophet.

Eventually, he worshipped Jesus.

His physical eyes were opened, but his spiritual understanding also grew.

This is what Jesus wants to do in our lives.

He wants us to see:

His truth.
His purpose.
His holiness.
His love.
His identity.

There are people who can see physically but remain spiritually blind.

Ask Jesus to open your spiritual eyes. 🏽

DON'T LET RELIGION PREVENT YOU FROM RECOGNIZING GOD'S WORK.

The religious leaders saw the miracle, but instead of celebrating, they questioned it.

They were more concerned about their religious expectations than the man who had received his sight.

This is a serious warning.

Sometimes people can become so attached to traditions, opinions, and personal expectations that they fail to recognize what God is doing.

Don't let pride blind you.

Don't let tradition blind you.

Don't let jealousy blind you.

Don't let bitterness blind you.

Don't let familiarity blind you.

Keep your heart humble before God.

THE MAN REFUSED TO DENY HIS TESTIMONY

When the religious leaders questioned him, the healed man simply declared what he knew:

«“One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” — John 9:25»

What a powerful testimony!

He did not have answers to every theological argument.

But he knew what Jesus had done for him.

As believers, we should never be ashamed of our testimony.

You may not know how to answer every question.

You may not understand everything about God.

But you can testify:

“I was lost, but Jesus found me.”

“I was broken, but Jesus restored me.”

“I was in darkness, but Jesus brought me into His light.”

Your testimony can point someone to Christ.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO STAND FOR JESUS

The healed man was eventually rejected because he refused to deny the One who healed him.

His testimony cost him something.

Following Jesus will sometimes require courage.

People may misunderstand you.

People may criticize your faith.

People may reject your convictions.

But don't abandon Christ to gain human acceptance.

Stand for Jesus.

The One who opened your eyes is worth following.

SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN PHYSICAL BLINDNESS

At the end of the chapter, Jesus confronted those who claimed to see but refused to recognize Him.

Physical blindness can limit your ability to see the world.

But spiritual blindness can keep you from seeing the truth about God.

Therefore, pray:

“Lord, open my eyes.”

Open my eyes to Your Word.

Open my eyes to my weaknesses.

Open my eyes to Your purpose.

Open my eyes to the needs of others.

Open my eyes to opportunities to serve You.

Open my eyes to the truth of the Gospel.

JESUS IS STILL THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Jesus declared:

«“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” — John 9:5»

Where Jesus is present, darkness does not have the final word.

He brings light into confusion.

He brings hope into despair.

He brings forgiveness to sinners.

He brings direction to the lost.

He brings spiritual sight to those who believe.

Walk with Jesus, and don't return to darkness.

✍🏽 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

When Jesus opens your eyes, don't return to the darkness you once lived in. Walk in His light, stand by your testimony, and help others see Christ.

🏽 PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Jesus Christ, the Light of the world.

Lord, open my spiritual eyes. Help me to see Your truth clearly and recognize Your purpose for my life.

Where I have been spiritually blind, give me understanding. Where I have been confused, give me direction. Where I have allowed sin to darken my heart, bring me back into Your light.

Give me courage like the man in John 9 to stand firmly for Christ and testify about what You have done in my life.

Help me never to allow people's opinions to silence my faith.

Use my testimony to lead others to Jesus.

May I continually walk in Your light and reflect that light to the world around me.

In Jesus' mighty name, Amen. 🏽

KEY VERSE:

THE CROSS WAS NOT THE END — JESUS IS RISEN!

The Cross of Calvary looked like the end.

Jesus had been crucified.

His body had been placed in a tomb.

His disciples were afraid and confused.

But early on the first day of the week, something happened that changed history forever:

THE TOMB WAS EMPTY!

Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

The One who died for our sins conquered death and rose again in victory.

The resurrection is not merely a celebration—it is the foundation of our hope.

THREE TRUTHS FROM JOHN 20

THE TOMB IS EMPTY.

When Mary Magdalene came to the tomb, she discovered that the stone had been removed.

Jesus was no longer there.

Death could not hold Him.

The grave could not keep Him.

The stone could not stop Him.

Jesus is alive!

This means our faith is not built around a dead religious leader.

We serve a living Saviour.

«“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.” — Revelation 1:18»

Because He lives, our hope is alive.

JESUS BRINGS PEACE TO TROUBLED HEARTS.

The disciples were gathered behind closed doors because they were afraid.

Then Jesus appeared among them and said:

«“Peace be unto you.” — John 20:19»

What a powerful message!

The disciples were afraid, but Jesus brought peace.

They were confused, but Jesus brought clarity.

They had witnessed His death, but now they were witnessing His resurrection.

Jesus still speaks peace into troubled hearts today.

When fear surrounds you, remember:

Jesus is alive.

When uncertainty overwhelms you, remember:

Jesus is with you.

When life becomes difficult, remember:

Your Saviour has already conquered death.

FAITH MUST LEAD US TO BELIEVE AND WORSHIP. 🏽

Thomas struggled to believe that Jesus had risen until he saw Him.

When Jesus appeared to him, Thomas declared:

«“My Lord and my God.” — John 20:28»

Thomas moved from doubt to declaration.

From uncertainty to worship.

From questioning to conviction.

Jesus then said:

«“Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” — John 20:29»

We may not have physically seen the risen Christ, but we can believe through the testimony of Scripture.

Faith means trusting God even when we cannot see everything.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

The resurrection changes everything.

Because Jesus rose:

Our hope is alive.
Our faith is alive.
Our salvation is secure in Him.
Our future is not controlled by death.

Therefore, do not live like someone whose Saviour is still in the grave.

Walk with confidence.

Pray with faith.

Serve with joy.

Share the Gospel boldly.

When the world says there is no hope, remember the empty tomb.

When circumstances say it is finished, remember that Jesus specializes in bringing life out of what appears to be dead.

The Cross was not the end.

The grave was not the end.

RESURRECTION WAS THE VICTORY!

Because He lives, you can face tomorrow.

Because He lives, you can overcome fear.

Because He lives, you can have hope.

Because He lives, those who believe in Him have the promise of eternal life.

🏽 PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for raising Jesus Christ from the dead.

Thank You that the grave could not hold Him and death could not defeat Him.

Because Jesus lives, my hope is alive.

Lord, strengthen my faith when I doubt.

Give me peace when I am afraid.

Give me courage when circumstances become difficult.

Help me to live every day with the confidence that Jesus Christ is alive.

Let the power of the resurrection transform my life, my character, my decisions and my witness.

Help me to proclaim the Gospel boldly and tell others that Jesus saves.

May my life continually declare:

Jesus Christ is my Lord and my God!

CALVARY BLESSING

May the joy of the risen Christ fill your heart.

May His resurrection power strengthen you.

May His peace overcome your fears.

May His presence guide you through every challenge.

May your faith become stronger even when you cannot see.

And may your life become a living testimony that Jesus Christ is alive.

The tomb is empty.
Death is defeated.
Hope is alive.
Jesus is risen!

NATIONS DRINKING.
A WORLD INTOXICATED.

Revelation 17:1–6

This is not merely about ancient Rome.

It is about WORSHIP. AUTHORITY. DECEPTION. CONSCIENCE.

And ultimately—

CHRIST OR HUMAN AUTHORITY: WHO WILL RULE THE HEART?

Before pointing at Babylon, therefore, ask:

IS ANYTHING IN HER CUP ALREADY IN MINE?

① THE WOMAN—RELIGION THAT BECAME UNFAITHFUL TO CHRIST

A pure woman symbolizes God's faithful people.

“I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.” — Jeremiah 6:2

But Revelation 17 shows a harlot.

Why?

Because she still appears religious—

yet has become unfaithful to her rightful Husband.

“MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT.” — Revelation 17:5

Babylon is therefore not merely irreligion.

It is something more deceptive:

RELIGION WITHOUT FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST AND HIS WORD.

The greatest danger may not be rejecting the Bible—

but using the Bible while placing another authority above it.

② WHY ROME?—FOLLOW THE PROPHETIC MARKERS

Revelation does not ask us to guess.

The woman sits upon seven mountains. — Revelation 17:9

She is connected with the city that “reigneth over the kings of the earth.” — Revelation 17:18

In John's day, that ruling city was Rome.

Daniel had already foretold a power arising from the Roman world that would:

SPEAK GREAT WORDS.
PERSECUTE THE SAINTS.
THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAW.

Daniel 7:23–25

Revelation 13 continues the same prophetic pattern.

This is why historic Protestant interpreters identified papal Rome as a central fulfillment of these prophecies.

But notice carefully:

PROPHECY IDENTIFIES A SYSTEM—NOT EVERY PERSON WITHIN IT.

For God Himself says:

“Come out of her, MY PEOPLE.” — Revelation 18:4

CHRIST HAS PEOPLE EVEN WHERE ERROR EXISTS.

③ HER FORNICATION—WHEN THE BRIDE REACHES FOR CAESAR

Why does God call it fornication?

Because the church belongs to one Husband.

“I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 11:2

Yet Babylon joins herself to:

“The kings of the earth.” — Revelation 17:2

Here lies the prophetic tragedy:

THE BRIDE REACHES FOR CAESAR WHEN SHE SHOULD CLING TO CHRIST.

Religion seeks government power to accomplish what Christ entrusted to truth and the Holy Spirit.

Ellen White warns that when churches seek civil power to enforce religious observances, the principles of the prophetic image to the beast are reproduced. — The Great Controversy, p. 445

Jesus declared:

“My kingdom is not of this world.” — John 18:36

CHRIST WINS CONSCIENCES.
BABYLON SEEKS TO CONTROL THEM.

④ THE WINE—ERROR THAT MAKES CROOKED THINGS LOOK STRAIGHT

Why wine?

Because intoxication does something frightening:

IT DISTORTS PERCEPTION.

A drunken man can feel perfectly confident—

while walking crooked.

So can a religious person.

“A golden cup in her hand full of abominations.” — Revelation 17:4

Ellen White identifies this intoxicating cup with the false doctrines Babylon has received and communicated to the world. — The Great Controversy, p. 388

Here is the warning:

THE CUP IS GOLDEN—BUT GOLD DOES NOT PURIFY WHAT IS INSIDE.

Falsehood rarely conquers by announcing:

“I am false.”

It comes dressed as—

TRADITION.
AUTHORITY.
ANTIQUITY.
POPULARITY.
RELIGION.

Therefore:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21

NEVER CONFUSE AN ANCIENT BELIEF WITH AN INSPIRED BELIEF.

⑤ FIRST INTOXICATION—TRADITION ABOVE “IT IS WRITTEN”

Jesus exposed this danger directly:

“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition.” — Mark 7:13

That is Babylon's operating principle:

MAN'S WORD WHERE GOD'S WORD SHOULD RULE.

Jesus defeated Satan three times with:

“IT IS WRITTEN.” — Matthew 4:4,7,10

That must become our foundation too.

Not—

“My church teaches it.”

“My family always believed it.”

“Millions cannot be wrong.”

But:

“WHAT IS WRITTEN?”

“To the law and to the testimony.” — Isaiah 8:20

FAITH DOES NOT ASK TRADITION FOR PERMISSION TO OBEY GOD.

⑥ THE OLD WINE—“YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE”

The first doctrinal contradiction in Scripture came from the serpent.

God said:

“Thou shalt surely die.” — Genesis 2:17

Satan answered:

“Ye shall not surely die.” — Genesis 3:4

Scripture still declares:

“The dead know not any thing.” — Ecclesiastes 9:5

“The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” — Ezekiel 18:4

Why does this matter in the last days?

Because Revelation predicts supernatural deception.

“Spirits of devils, working miracles.” — Revelation 16:14

If Satan can impersonate the dead—

a false doctrine about death can become a doorway for a false supernatural experience.

THE SERPENT'S FIRST LIE MAY HELP PREPARE THE WORLD FOR HIS FINAL DECEPTION.

Our safety?

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart.” — Psalm 119:11

⑦ THE GREAT QUESTION—WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO DEFINE WORSHIP?

God sanctified the seventh day.

Genesis 2:2–3

God wrote:

“The seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.” — Exodus 20:10

Jesus declared:

“The Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” — Mark 2:28

Revelation's final crisis is unmistakably about worship.

“Worship Him that made heaven, and earth.” — Revelation 14:7

versus:

“If any man worship the beast and his image…” — Revelation 14:9

Then Heaven points to the faithful:

“Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” — Revelation 14:12

So the deepest Sabbath question is not merely:

WHICH DAY?

It is:

WHO IS LORD?

If Jesus is Lord—

His Word outranks every human tradition.

⑧ THE MOST DANGEROUS WINE—ANYTHING THAT OBSCURES CHRIST

At Babylon's deepest level, the issue is not merely a collection of incorrect doctrines.

It is another authority standing where Christ belongs.

Scripture declares:

“There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” — 1 Timothy 2:5

“Neither is there salvation in any other.” — Acts 4:12

No human priesthood can replace His mediation.

No human merit can supplement His sacrifice.

No human authority can outrank His Word.

CHRIST IS ENOUGH.

CHRIST OUR SACRIFICE.
CHRIST OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
CHRIST OUR HIGH PRIEST.
CHRIST OUR MEDIATOR.
CHRIST OUR SAVIOR.

“We have a great high priest… Jesus the Son of God.” — Hebrews 4:14

THE MORE CLEARLY CHRIST IS SEEN, THE LESS ROOM REMAINS FOR COUNTERFEITS.

⑨ WHY DO KINGS DRINK?—BECAUSE ERROR EVENTUALLY WANTS POWER

Babylon's wine does not remain inside a church.

Revelation shows a terrifying progression:

ERROR BECOMES ALLIANCE.
ALLIANCE BECOMES LEGISLATION.
LEGISLATION BECOMES PRESSURE.
PRESSURE BECOMES COERCED WORSHIP.

“No man might buy or sell…” — Revelation 13:17

Finally:

“Cause that as many as would not worship… should be killed.” — Revelation 13:15

But Jesus never forced a conscience.

He said:

“If any man will come after Me…” — Matthew 16:24

And:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock.” — Revelation 3:20

Notice the difference:

**JESUS KNOCKS.

BABYLON COMPELS.**

TRUTH NEEDS NO SWORD TO MAKE IT TRUE.

⑩ WHY DOES THE WORLD BECOME DRUNK?—SINCERITY CAN EXIST WITHOUT TRUTH

Here is what makes deception terrifying:

A deceived person usually does not know he is deceived.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Proverbs 14:12

Sincerity matters.

But sincerity cannot transform error into truth.

So the Bereans did something every last-day Christian must learn:

“They searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” — Acts 17:11

They did not ask:

“WHO SAID IT?”

They asked:

“IS IT WRITTEN?”

THE SAFEST CHRISTIAN IS NOT THE ONE WHO NEVER QUESTIONS HIS TRADITION—BUT THE ONE WHO LETS SCRIPTURE QUESTION EVERYTHING.

⑪ NOW TURN THE PROPHECY AROUND—IS BABYLON IN ME?

We can correctly identify prophetic Babylon—

and still possess Babylon's spirit.

That should make us tremble.

DO I LOVE TRUTH WHEN IT CORRECTS ME?

DO I OBEY WHEN OBEDIENCE COSTS ME?

DO I DEFEND SCRIPTURE—or merely my interpretation?

DO I WANT CHRIST TO RULE—or simply to confirm what I already believe?

“Search me, O God, and know my heart.” — Psalm 139:23

Prophecy was never given merely to expose somebody else's apostasy.

IT WAS GIVEN TO PREPARE MY CHARACTER FOR CHRIST'S COMING.

Knowing Babylon cannot save me.

“This is life eternal, that they might know Thee… and Jesus Christ.” — John 17:3

⑫ THE ANTIDOTE TO BABYLON'S WINE—THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL

This may be the most beautiful truth in the whole prophecy.

Before Heaven cries:

“BABYLON IS FALLEN!” — Revelation 14:8

Heaven first proclaims:

“THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL.” — Revelation 14:6

That order is deliberate.

Before God exposes the counterfeit—

HE REVEALS CHRIST.

Before He calls people out—

HE GIVES THEM SOMEONE TO COME TO.

Babylon offers intoxicating wine.

Jesus cries:

“If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink.” — John 7:37

Babylon elevates human authority.

Jesus says:

“Thy word is truth.” — John 17:17

Babylon reaches for earthly power.

Jesus conquers through Calvary:

“I… will draw all men unto Me.” — John 12:32

THE FINAL MESSAGE IS NOT BABYLON-CENTERED.

IT IS LAMB-CENTERED.

The purpose of exposing Babylon is not merely to make people leave error—

BUT TO BRING THEM TO JESUS.

⑬ “COME OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE”—THE VOICE BEHIND THE WARNING IS LOVE

Perhaps the tenderest words in the prophecy are:

“Come out of her, MY PEOPLE.” — Revelation 18:4

MY PEOPLE.

Not:

“My enemies.”

Not:

“People beyond salvation.”

MY PEOPLE.

God has sincere people inside systems containing error.

Therefore true present truth produces tears—not hatred.

We do not attack Catholics.

We do not despise Protestants.

We do not exalt ourselves.

WE EXPOSE ERROR—
LOVE PEOPLE—
OPEN SCRIPTURE—
AND LIFT UP CHRIST.

“The wonderful love of Christ will melt and subdue hearts.” — The Desire of Ages, p. 826

WHEN JESUS SHOWS YOU TRUTH THAT CROSSES YOUR TRADITION, YOUR COMFORT, YOUR REPUTATION, OR YOUR CHERISHED OPINION—WILL YOU FOLLOW THE LAMB?

That is present truth brought home to the heart.

DON'T MERELY IDENTIFY THE GOLDEN CUP.

REFUSE THE WINE.
OPEN THE WORD.
FOLLOW THE LAMB.
DRINK DEEPLY FROM CHRIST.

“Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” — John 4:14

TODAY'S KINGDOM INSIGHTS:

SERMON TOPIC:

THE REAL REASON BARABBAS WAS SET FREE AND NOT JESUS.

Main Text:

Matthew 27:15–26; Mark 15:6–15; Luke 23:13–25; John 18:38–40


There are moments in Scripture that make us stop and ask, “How could this happen?”
Jesus was innocent.
Barabbas was guilty.
Jesus healed the sick.
Barabbas was a criminal.
Jesus preached love, forgiveness, and the Kingdom of God.
Barabbas was associated with rebellion and violence.
Yet the crowd shouted:
“Release Barabbas!”
And concerning Jesus:
“Crucify Him!”
It looks like injustice won.
But here is the deeper truth:
Barabbas was not simply released because Jesus lost the argument. Barabbas was released because Jesus was going to take his place.
The story of Barabbas is actually a picture of the Gospel.
Barabbas represents the guilty sinner.
Jesus represents the innocent Savior.
Barabbas walked away free because Jesus walked toward the cross.

And that is the mystery of grace:
The guilty goes free because the innocent One takes his place.
1. BARABBAS WAS GUILTY, BUT JESUS WAS INNOCENT
Pilate examined Jesus and repeatedly found no sufficient reason to condemn Him.
Luke 23:22 says:
«“I have found no reason for death in Him.”»
Jesus was innocent.
But Barabbas had committed serious crimes.
Mark 15:7 tells us that Barabbas had been involved in rebellion and murder.
So, humanly speaking, the choice should have been obvious.
But the crowd chose Barabbas.
Why?
Because the cross was not an accident.
Jesus had already declared that He came to give His life for others.
Mark 10:45 says:
«“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”»
Jesus knew why He came.
He came to become the substitute.

Spiritual Insight

Sometimes we ask, “Why did Jesus have to die?”
The answer is partly found in Barabbas.
Someone had to bear the consequence of sin.
And Jesus willingly took that place.
2. BARABBAS RECEIVED WHAT JESUS DESERVED
This is the shocking part of the story.
Barabbas deserved punishment.
Jesus deserved no punishment.
Yet Barabbas walked out of prison.
Jesus walked toward Golgotha.
Barabbas went free.
Jesus was condemned.
Barabbas was released.
Jesus was crucified.
This is substitution.
The guilty person goes free because the innocent person takes his place.
Isaiah 53:5 declares:
«“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities.”»

Notice the language:
Our transgressions.
Our iniquities.
Our punishment.
The cross was personal.
Jesus was not dying because He had sinned.
He was dying because we had sinned.

Think About This

Barabbas probably did not understand everything that was happening.
He may have walked out of that prison wondering how he escaped death.
But we know something he may not have understood:
Another Man died in his place.
And spiritually, that is our story.
We were guilty.
Christ took our place.
3. THE RELEASE OF BARABBAS REVEALS THE DEPTH OF GOD'S GRACE
Grace is not God pretending that sin does not matter.
Grace is God dealing with sin through the sacrifice of Christ.
Romans 5:8 says:
«“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”»
That means Jesus did not wait for us to become perfect before He loved us.
He loved us while we were still sinners.
Barabbas did not earn his freedom.
He did not negotiate his release.
He did not pay the governor.
He simply received an unexpected release.
That is grace.
Grace is receiving what you could never earn because someone else paid the price.
You cannot boast about salvation.
You cannot say, “I saved myself.”
No.
Jesus saved you.
4. THE CROWD CHOSE BARABBAS, BUT GOD WAS WORKING THROUGH THE CROSS
The crowd thought they were making the final decision.
But heaven had already established a redemptive purpose.
Acts 2:23 says that Jesus was delivered according to the “determined purpose and foreknowledge of God.”
This does not mean the people were innocent.
Their choices were still sinful.
But God was able to accomplish His redemptive plan through what sinful people intended for evil.
This is one of the mysteries of God's sovereignty.
People thought:
“We are getting rid of Jesus.”
God was accomplishing:
“I am providing salvation for humanity.”

The cross looked like defeat.
But it became victory.
The grave looked like the end.
But resurrection was coming.
Never Judge God's Work Too Early
There may be seasons in your life when everything looks like it is going in the wrong direction.
But remember Calvary.
Friday looked like defeat. Sunday revealed the victory.
Do not conclude the story while God is still writing it.
5. BARABBAS IS A PICTURE OF EVERY SINNER WHO RECEIVES SALVATION
We often read the story and say:
“Why did they release Barabbas?”
But there is another question:
“What if I were Barabbas?”
What if you were the one sitting in that prison?
What if you knew punishment was coming?
What if you knew you were guilty?
Then suddenly, the story becomes personal.
Barabbas walked out because Jesus took his place.
And every person who comes to Christ in genuine faith can say:
“I deserved judgment, but Christ took my place.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 says:
«“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”»
That is the Gospel.
Jesus took our place so that we could receive His righteousness.

BIBLICAL CASE STUDY:

THE CROSS

Look at the sequence.
Barabbas: Guilty.
Jesus: Innocent.
Barabbas: Imprisoned.
Jesus: Free.
Barabbas: Released.
Jesus: Condemned.
Barabbas: Walked away.
Jesus: Walked toward the cross.
Barabbas: Lived because another died.
Believers: Receive eternal life because Christ died and rose again.
The cross is therefore more than a religious symbol.
It is the place where justice and mercy met.
Justice says sin must be dealt with.
Mercy says sinners can be saved.
At the cross, Jesus bore the judgment so that mercy could reach us.

PRACTICAL LESSONS FOR CHRISTIANS.

1. Never take salvation for granted.
You were not saved because you were better than someone else.
You were saved by grace.
Therefore, remain humble.
2. Stop trying to earn God's love
You cannot work your way into salvation.
Serve God because you love Him, not because you are trying to purchase His acceptance.
3. Forgive others
If Christ has forgiven you, you must learn to extend forgiveness to others.
4. Live like someone who has been set free
Barabbas walked out of prison.
The believer has also been delivered from the dominion of sin.
Do not keep living like a prisoner when Christ has made you free.
5. Tell someone about Jesus
Your testimony may be simple:
“I was guilty, but Jesus took my place.”
That is powerful enough.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

1. Have I truly understood what Jesus accomplished for me on the cross?
2. Am I trying to earn God's acceptance instead of receiving His grace?
3. Do I live like someone who has been set free?
4. Have I truly repented of my sins?
5. Who can I tell about the saving grace of Jesus Christ?
6. Do I extend to others the same mercy I have received from Christ?

POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS

1. Prayer of Thanksgiving
Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to take my place. Thank You for Your mercy and grace. I will never take my salvation for granted. In Jesus' name, Amen.
2. Prayer of Repentance
Lord Jesus, forgive me for every sin, disobedience, pride, and rebellion in my life. Cleanse me and help me walk faithfully with You. Amen.
3. Prayer for Freedom
Every chain of sin, addiction, fear, and spiritual bondage in my life, break in the name of Jesus. I declare that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Amen.
4. Prayer for Grace
Father, help me to understand the depth of Your grace and to live every day with gratitude for what Christ has done for me. Amen.
5. Prayer for Others
Lord, use my life to bring other Barabbases to Jesus—people who feel condemned, rejected, broken, and far from You. Let my testimony point them to the cross. Amen.

DEEP SPIRITUAL TRUTH

Here is the heart of the message:
Barabbas was released, not because he was innocent, but because another took his place.
And that is the Gospel.
We are not saved because we are perfect.
We are saved because Jesus is perfect.
We are not accepted because we deserve it.
We are accepted because Christ paid the price.
We are not standing before God because of our righteousness.
We stand because of His righteousness.
The cross says:
“Your sin is serious, but God's grace is greater.”

CALL TO ACTION

Today, do not simply admire the story of Barabbas.
See yourself in it.
You were guilty.
Christ took your place.
You were condemned.
Christ bore the condemnation.
You were far from God.
Christ opened the way back to the Father.
The question is not merely:
“Why was Barabbas released?”
The deeper question is:
“What will I do with the Jesus who took my place?”
Will you continue living for yourself?
Or will you surrender your life completely to Him?
Will you keep returning to the prison of sin?
Or will you walk in the freedom Christ purchased for you?
Jesus took your place.
Now give Him your life.
«“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” — John 8:36»
You are not free because you were innocent.
You are free because Jesus became your substitute.
THE CROSS WAS HIS PLACE.
THE FREEDOM WAS YOURS.
THE SACRIFICE WAS HIS.
THE GRACE IS YOURS.
Come to Jesus. Remain in Jesus. Live for Jesus. And tell the world about Jesus.

Daily Bible Lesson.
CAN BEAUTY BECOME A LIE?

THE HIDDEN DANGERS OF ARTIFICIAL BEAUTY, AND THE BEAUTY CHRIST WANTS TO CREATE.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness.” — Exodus 20:16

We usually think a lie must be spoken.

But can deception also be displayed?

A complexion made to appear different.
Artificial lashes presented as natural.
Artificial nails.
Artificial hair.
Filters that create another face.
An appearance deliberately designed to make the artificial appear real.

Here is the searching question:

IF GOD REQUIRES TRUTH FROM OUR LIPS—DOES HE ALSO CARE ABOUT THE TRUTH OUR APPEARANCE COMMUNICATES?

God is not against beauty.

HE CREATED BEAUTY.

But Scripture directs us away from making outward appearance our treasure and toward something cosmetics can never manufacture:

THE BEAUTY OF A CHRIST-TRANSFORMED CHARACTER.

① WHEN APPEARANCE IS USED TO DECEIVE, TRUTHFULNESS IS AT STAKE

“Putting away lying, speak every man truth.” — Ephesians 4:25

Falsehood is not merely pronouncing an untrue sentence.

We can misrepresent ourselves by intentionally creating a false impression.

So before the mirror, ask:

“AM I SIMPLY BEING CLEAN AND PRESENTABLE—OR AM I TRYING TO MAKE SOMETHING ARTIFICIAL APPEAR NATURALLY MINE?”

Scripture does not specifically say, “makeup and wigs violate the Ninth Commandment.”

The biblical principle is broader and deeper:

WHEN APPEARANCE IS INTENTIONALLY USED TO DECEIVE, THE PRINCIPLE OF TRUTHFULNESS IS AT STAKE.

And context matters. A wig used because of illness, hair loss, protection, or genuine practical need should not automatically be branded dishonest.

God wants truth not merely upon our lips—

“Thou desirest truth in the inward parts.” — Psalm 51:6

② MAKEUP CAN COVER A BLEMISH—BUT IT CANNOT CREATE BEAUTY OF CHARACTER

Peter redirects our attention:

“Let it be the hidden man of the heart… even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit.” — 1 Peter 3:4

Paul adds:

“In modest apparel… with good works.” — 1 Timothy 2:9–10

God moves beauty:

FROM DISPLAY → TO CHARACTER.
FROM VANITY → TO MODESTY.
FROM HUMAN APPLAUSE → TO GOD'S APPROVAL.
FROM MAGNIFYING SELF → TO REVEALING CHRIST.

No foundation can produce purity.

No lipstick can create kindness.

No artificial lashes can produce humility.

No wig can manufacture contentment.

No filter can create holiness.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FACE CANNOT COMPENSATE FOR AN UNCONVERTED HEART.

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” — Proverbs 31:30

③ ARTIFICIAL BEAUTY CAN QUIETLY TEACH THE HEART: “THE REAL YOU IS NOT ENOUGH”

Cover this.

Lengthen that.

Darken this.

Lighten that.

Change the hair.

Reshape the face.

Hide every imperfection.

And tomorrow—

BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

Eventually the danger becomes bigger than cosmetics.

The mirror begins preaching:

“GOD'S WORKMANSHIP IS NOT ENOUGH.”

But Scripture answers:

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14

Your deepest question is not:

“Am I attractive enough for people?”

It is:

“AM I BECOMING LIKE JESUS?”

④ THERE ARE REAL PHYSICAL RISKS—BEAUTY PRODUCTS ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY HARMLESS

Science requires honesty.

Not every cosmetic is dangerous, and many properly formulated products are safely used by most people.

But cosmetic does not mean risk-free.

Dermatology recognizes both irritant and allergic contact dermatitis from cosmetic ingredients.

Fragrances, preservatives, hair dyes, resins and adhesives can trigger reactions in susceptible people.

Products used around the eyes may cause irritation or allergy; contaminated eye cosmetics can contribute to infection.

False-eyelash adhesives can also provoke irritation or allergic reactions.

Hair dyes and some products used with artificial hair can likewise expose sensitive skin to allergens.

So the Christian principle of health asks:

“Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19

WHY ADD AN UNNECESSARY EXPOSURE SIMPLY TO CREATE AN APPEARANCE?

BEAUTY SHOULD NEVER BE PURCHASED AT THE EXPENSE OF HEALTH.

⑤ THE MENTAL DANGER MAY BE EVEN MORE SUBTLE

The most dangerous mirror is the one that whispers:

“DON'T LET THEM SEE THE REAL YOU.”

When we feel unable to leave home without enhancement…

when compliments determine our worth…

when comparison controls our happiness…

when we repeatedly inspect perceived flaws…

when appearance consumes excessive money, thought, time and emotional energy—

THE OUTWARD IMAGE HAS BEGUN TO GOVERN THE INWARD PERSON.

Research on appearance-focused media repeatedly links appearance comparison and exposure to idealized or heavily edited images with increased body dissatisfaction and related psychological distress.

The gospel offers another identity:

YOUR VALUE IS NOT MEASURED BY A MIRROR.

It was demonstrated at CALVARY.

“Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things… But with the precious blood of Christ.” — 1 Peter 1:18–19

YOUR FACE DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR WORTH.
THE PRICE CHRIST PAID REVEALS YOUR WORTH TO HIM.

⑥ VANITY CAN BECOME EXPENSIVE IN MORE WAYS THAN MONEY

Ask what artificial beauty may consume:

MONEY that could bless others.

TIME that could be invested in prayer, family and service.

THOUGHT that could dwell upon eternal things.

CONTENTMENT through constant comparison.

SIMPLICITY through dependence upon fashion.

HEALTH when unnecessary products cause reactions.

And potentially—

SPIRITUAL ATTENTION, when the question becomes “How do I look?” more often than “How does Christ look through my life?”

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” — Matthew 6:21

That makes this deeply personal:

HOW MUCH OF MY PEACE DEPENDS UPON HOW PEOPLE SEE ME?

⑦ WHY CHOOSE NATURAL CHRISTIAN SIMPLICITY?

Not because neglect is holy.

Not because attractiveness is sinful.

Not because everyone who wears makeup is vain.

And certainly not because Christians should police another person's face.

Choose simplicity because it can help cultivate something better:

TRUTH instead of artificial impression.
CONTENTMENT instead of comparison.
HEALTH instead of needless exposure.
MODESTY instead of display.
STEWARDSHIP instead of unnecessary expense.
FREEDOM instead of dependence upon appearance.
CHRIST instead of self at the center.

Ellen White wrote:

“God is the author of all beauty.”

Christian simplicity therefore does not mean:

“MAKE YOURSELF UNATTRACTIVE.”

It means:

STOP LETTING THE WORLD DECIDE WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL.

Be clean.
Be neat.
Be healthy.
Be modest.
Be appropriately dressed.
Be beautifully Christlike.

BUT NEVER LET FASHION BECOME YOUR MASTER OR APPEARANCE BECOME YOUR IDENTITY.

⑧ THE GREATEST DANGER IS SPIRITUAL

We can spend an hour preparing the person everyone sees—

and minutes preparing the person GOD SEES.

Correct the complexion—
while leaving anger untouched.

Arrange the hair—
while neglecting prayer.

Perfect the outward appearance—
while tolerating pride.

Cover blemishes—
while hiding cherished sin.

Then Jesus takes us past the mirror:

“Cleanse first that which is within.” — Matthew 23:26

CHRIST DID NOT DIE TO GIVE US A BETTER MASK.
HE DIED TO GIVE US A NEW HEART.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God.” — Psalm 51:10

**HEAVEN IS NOT PREPARING FACES FOR DISPLAY.

HEAVEN IS PREPARING CHARACTERS FOR ETERNITY.**

⑨ BEFORE THE MIRROR—ASK SEVEN QUESTIONS

Is it truthful?
Is it modest?
Is it necessary?
Is it healthful?
Is it good stewardship?

Am I content with how God made me?

Does it help reveal Christ—or magnify self?

Christianity does not merely ask:

“WHAT CAN I GET AWAY WITH?”

Love asks:

“Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?” — Acts 9:6

CHRIST OFFERS WHAT THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY NEVER CAN

Makeup can change a complexion.

Artificial hair can change an appearance.

A filter can change a photograph.

BUT ONLY JESUS CAN CHANGE THE PERSON.

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

He replaces—

vanity with humility,
comparison with contentment,
insecurity with identity in Him,
self-display with modesty,
falsehood with truth.

This is not permission to ridicule women, condemn those dealing with hair loss, or judge another person's heart by appearance.

REFORM WITHOUT CHRIST BECOMES CONDEMNATION.
REFORM THROUGH CHRIST BECOMES TRANSFORMATION.

Bring Him the insecurity.
Bring Him the vanity.
Bring Him the craving for approval.
BRING HIM THE MIRROR.

“Beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, [we] are changed into the same image.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18

DON'T SPEND YOUR LIFE PERFECTING AN IMAGE THAT TIME WILL ERASE—WHILE NEGLECTING THE CHARACTER CHRIST WANTS TO PREPARE FOR ETERNITY.

Every cosmetic eventually washes away.
Every artificial enhancement is eventually laid aside.

Youthful beauty fades.

BUT THE BEAUTY CHRIST WRITES INTO THE CHARACTER CAN ENDURE FOREVER.

LET THE FACE BE SIMPLE.
LET THE LIFE BE BEAUTIFUL.
LET THE HEART BE TRUE.
LET THE CHARACTER REVEAL CHRIST.
AND ABOVE EVERYTHING—LET JESUS BE SEEN.
