The account of Jabez does not teach that prayer is a formula for personal prosperity. Instead, it reveals a man who recognizes his complete dependence upon God. He does not rely upon his background, strength, or family position. He asks the Lord to direct his future and keep him from the evil that could bring further sorrow. His story demonstrates that a difficult beginning does not have to determine a person’s future. God’s grace is greater than the circumstances surrounding our birth, family history, or past experiences. When people seek Him sincerely, He is able to lead them beyond the limitations others may place upon them. The chapter also mentions craftsmen, potters, workers, leaders, and families who occupied particular towns and fulfilled practical responsibilities. These details reveal that ordinary work has value within God’s purposes. Service does not need to be publicly recognized to matter to the Lord. The descendants of Simeon are also described as seeking land for their flocks and defeating enemies who occupied the territory. Their account reflects the importance of courage, diligence, and acting upon the opportunities God provides. They did not remain passive but worked together to establish a place for their families. The very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 The sanctification set forth in the Sacred Scriptures has to do with the entire being—spirit, soul, and body. Here is the true idea of entire consecration. Paul prays that the church at Thessalonica may enjoy this great blessing. “The very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23.... True sanctification is an entire conformity to the will of God. Rebellious thoughts and feelings are overcome, and the voice of Jesus awakens a new life, which pervades the entire being. Those who are truly sanctified will not set up their own opinion as a standard of right and wrong. They are not bigoted or self-righteous; but they are jealous of self, ever fearing, lest a promise being left them, they should come short of complying with the conditions upon which the promises are based.... Bible sanctification does not consist in strong emotion. Here is where many are led into error. They make feelings their criterion. When they feel elated or happy, they claim that they are sanctified. Happy feelings or the absence of joy is no evidence that a person is or is not sanctified. There is no such thing as instantaneous sanctification. True sanctification is a daily work, continuing as long as life shall last. Those who are battling with daily temptations, over-coming their own sinful tendencies, and seeking for holiness of heart and life make no boastful claims of holiness. They are hungering and thirsting for righteousness. FORGIVEN, ACCEPTED, AND LOVED “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.” —Ephesians 1:6–8 Because Jesus lives, you can be forgiven of your sins. The Apostle Paul wrote, “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding” (Ephesians 1:6–8 NLT). That’s important to remember because your spiritual enemy will use guilt to make you question your relationship with the Lord. He will try to convince you that your sin makes you unworthy to be part of God’s family. Remember, though, that everything God has done has been because of His grace, which means “unmerited favor.” You aren’t merely forgiven, justified, and cleansed of your sins; you have been received in love by God Himself. This is because of His deep love for His own Son, Jesus. Because His Son lives in you, you have found His favor. You have the approval of God because of what Jesus has done. Some people have been raised in homes where their father never demonstrated any kind of love toward them. Maybe he was cold and distant. Or maybe, you were raised in a home where there wasn’t a father at all. We can transfer those emotions to God the Father. We can walk around in life feeling as though we don’t have the approval of God. We might think, “If I just did this, God would notice,” or “If I worked a little harder, then God would love me.” But that’s not the kind of Father we’re talking about. The psalmist wrote, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy” (Psalm 68:5 NLT). Paul wrote, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ” (Ephesians 1:3 NLT). And James wrote, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father” (James 1:17 NLT). God approves of you. You are accepted and loved—not because you read your Bible a little longer, share Christ with more people, or give a little more in the offering. You are still accepted even when you don’t do all of that. You are accepted when you fail, when you slip up, when you give in to a familiar temptation. You are accepted not because of what you have done, but because of what Jesus has done. In understanding this great truth, you should want to do everything for the Lord’s glory—not to earn His approval, but because you already have it. God bless you!

The redemptive plan has always pointed toward this unity, but it is now fully revealed through the gospel. Paul recognizes that he was given the privilege of proclaiming the riches of the Christ not because of personal merit but because of God's mercy. The second half of the chapter records Paul's heartfelt prayer for the believers. Rather than praying primarily for physical blessings, he prays for spiritual strength through the Holy Spirit. He desires that the Christ would dwell richly within their hearts and that they would become firmly rooted and grounded in His love. The redemptive plan is not only about knowing truth intellectually but about experiencing the transforming love of the Son of God personally. Paul continues by praying that believers would increasingly comprehend the vastness of the love of the Christ. His love surpasses human understanding because it extends beyond every limitation of time, distance, and human ability. Christian living grows stronger as believers continually discover more of His love. The Son of God never ceases to reveal the depth of His grace to those who seek Him. The chapter concludes with a magnificent declaration of God's unlimited power. The Lord is able to accomplish far more than believers could ever ask or imagine because His power is continually at work within them. The redemptive plan is not limited by human weakness or circumstances. The Christ is accomplishing His eternal purposes through His people for His own glory. Throughout Ephesians chapter 3, the Christ stands at the center of God's revealed mystery, the unity of the Church, the believer's confidence before God, and the limitless love that transforms every heart. Everything God has planned from eternity finds its fulfillment through His beloved Son. For believers today, this chapter reminds us that we are part of something far greater than ourselves. Christian living is rooted in God's eternal purpose and sustained by the limitless love of the Christ. We are called to grow deeper in our understanding of His grace, stronger in our dependence upon His Spirit, and more confident in His power. **God does not hear the prayer of one who prays and stays in sin** Seeking God cannot be an empty gesture. It must come with purpose in the heart, with genuine intention — this is how the prophets sought the Lord's face: *"Then I proclaimed a fast there... that we might afflict ourselves before our God"* (Ezra 8:21). Fasting and prayer are a way of emptying the heart of everything that is sin, so that God has room to speak and act. And God knows the heart — He is not impressed by fasting of the mouth, mere outward appearance, while the heart remains distant (Isaiah 58:3-6). There's a striking episode where a Canaanite woman cries out for help, and Jesus responds in a way that shocks at first: *"It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs"* (Matthew 15:26). The bread — the blessings, the miracles, God's answers — belongs to those who are children. To those who have intimacy, who live inside the Father's house. It's not for those who ask from the outside, living in sin, with no commitment to change. The woman, however, insists with faith and humility, and Jesus recognizes her great faith. The lesson remains the same: the position of a child opens a door that the position of a stranger does not. And that's exactly why Scripture teaches: *"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you"* (Matthew 7:7). That promise is real, but it isn't unconditional — it's for those who live as children, sanctified, truly walking with God. Whoever sanctifies themselves, whoever surrenders their life without reservation, is filled with the Holy Spirit, and whatever they ask within God's will, they will receive, because it is written. But this must be said: *"we know that God heareth not sinners"* (John 9:31). It's no use fasting, weeping, crying out, asking for blessing, while deliberately living in sin with no intention of letting go. God cannot be manipulated by tears or by forced fasting. He waits for the heart — broken, sincere, willing to change. If you want to see God answer your prayers, the path begins before the request: it's sanctification. It's living as a child, not as someone who only wants the crumbs from the table while living far from home. *Remember that the Word of God is a statute.* [all]
